Title: Week One GIFFC - BRING IT ON!
Post by bgsgfan on Aug 27th, 2003, 8:39pm
GRIDIRON INFORMAL FF CHALLENGE

Howdy Gridironers!  I have been contemplating this Informal FF Challenge for a while, and decided to give it a whirl.

The Concept:  This is your chance to pit your FF knowledge against other Gridironers, without signing up for a league or being required to participate week in and week out!  Each week you pick a starting lineup of 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 4 WRs, 2 TEs, 2 Ks, and 2 Ds to compete against every other Gridironer who picks a lineup.  The competition will be for each week, and in total for the year!

The Twist: I will designate several players at each position each week by Tuesday at 12 noon Eastern Time to be on the "A list".  No more than 50% of each position on your roster can be made up of A list players (i.e. only 1 QB, RB, TE, K, and D and only 2 WRs).

The Scoring, General:  A standard scoring system will be used.  Each Gridironer will be on the honor system to compute his lineup's total score each week, by Tuesday at noon Eastern Time.  NFL.com will be used if there is any discrepancy between statistical sources, therefore I suggest using them in the beginning to tabulate your team's score.  I will keep track of the total year-to-date for each Gridironer and will post the order we finish each week as well as a YTD listing.

The Scoring, Offense:
1 point for every 10 rushing and receiving yards
1 point for every 25 passing yards
6 points for every rushing and receiving TD
4 points for every passing TD
-1 point for every interception and fumble lost

The Scoring, Kickers:
3 points for FGs up to 49 yards
4 points for FGs of 50 yards or more
1 point for PAT kicks

The Scoring, Defense:
***Note: for simplicity, points allowed will be the total points scored against a team, whether or not they came against the defense, ST, or offense.***
0 Pts Allowed (10)
1-6 Pts Allowed (7)
7-13 Pts Allowed (4)
14-20 Pts Allowed (1)
21-27 Pts Allowed (0)
28-34 Pts Allowed (-1)
35+ Pts Allowed (-4)
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (both Defense and Special Teams)(6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)

Submission:  You can submit your lineup at any time before kickoff of any games any of your players are participating in.  For example, you can submit a lineup for week one on Sunday before kickoff of any games, as long as you do not use any players from the Thursday night game.  You can substitute players up until kickoff of their game, after kickoff that roster spot is locked in.

Who can participate: Everyone!  This is your chance to show your stuff.  You don't need to be part of any clique or have any participation anywhere else.  Just post your lineup and tabulate your points and you are in!

What you can win:  Respect, admiration, and notoriety.  This is not a money league and I am not going to shell any money out for prizes or trophies.  You have the possibility to win the biggest prize of all, however, bragging rights!

So be on the lookout, fellow Gridironers.  The very first A list of the year will be coming shortly.

Looks good!  Sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

Couple questions... can we agree to use nfl.com for the stats?  It is something everyone has access to and that way we'll all be using the same stats.

Also, a 49 yd FG is 3 points, and a 51 yd FG is 4 points.  What about a 50 yarder?  I'm not sure the scoring wording is clear.

Good point!  I added "NFL.com will be used if there is any discrepancy between statistical sources, therefore I suggest using them in the beginning to tabulate your team's score," to the rules.

Another good point!  I changed the wording, I think its clear now.

BTW, the idea for this came from thinking about how we could keep track of how we did with our "Red Zone Players of the Week" picks.  The A list is intended as a way to seperate the studs from the sleepers.

Oops.  Thanks.  Added David Boston.  I know he is new to the team, but he is healthy and going against the KC D.

**I had a question about the scoring... The Defense/Special Teams gets 2 points for a blocked kick.  Does that include blocked punts, or is it just FG/XP attempts?  (I included 2 points for a blocked punt for the Panthers, but will remove it if necessary.)
