Title: Anyone else looking ahead to 2004?
Post by #1 Steelers Fan on Nov 25th, 2003, 12:58pm
Since I have only one week of fantasy football left I am getting ready to look ahead to 2004. Our draft consists of rookies only so I thought we could get this thread started eary for the 2004 prospects.

Obviously a players value is pretty much determined by which team picks them. So what I look at is which team is most likely in need of a skill position player anmd come up with a list, here is how I rank some of the players and I am interested to see what everyone else thinks.

QB's
1.) Eli Manning: For some reason I feel he is the best QB in the class and I can see him going to Arizona.

2.) Ben Roethlisberger: He should be the second QB taken and could even pass Manning. He is only a junior and he may not declare. If eh does he could end up in Pittsburgh or Oakland.

3.) J.P. Losman: Could be the next starter from Tulane in the NFL possibly going to Green Bay who could not get Grossman last year.

RB's
1.) Stephen Jackson: He might be the first RB taken in the draft and could very well find himself playing for the Bengals.

2.) Kevin Jones: He will probably declare eligible and might be a great pick for the Bucs.

3.) Cadillac Williams: I like this guy a lot and I also think it is obvious that Troy Hambrick is not a featured back. Look for Parcells to get him.

4.) Greg Jones: The Titans selected C.Brown last season and he has been injured and slow to develop. Greg Jones has a great size - speed combo the Titans like.

WR's
1.) Roy Williams: He has been injured but should be the #1 WR taken and will be a nice target for Leftwich in Jacksonville.

2.) Reggie Williams: He could be selected over Roy, but I think he will end up with the Jets who need another WR's to pair up with Moss.

3.) Rashuan Woods: It doesn't appear that T.Owens will be with the 49ers next season and that could have the 49ers selecting Woods.

TE's
1.) Winslow: He is the best TE in college and probably will be eligible. He will be first TE taken and could end up in Washington.

2.) Kris Wilson: I think this guy will turn some heads once the draft comes around. He is almost the same type of player that Winslow is but he blocks better.

So any opinions on these guys and other players not listed would be great.

The Steelers and draft pick qb's havent worked well since Bradshaw. Dont say MVP, hall of famer Kordell Stewart either. I think (gut feeling) the Jon Kitna will end up in Pittsburgh next year. Anouther Qb option will be Mark Brunnell. No way Maddox stays unless the steelers win out.

A lot of reports I have read have Drew Henson going to Pittsburgh this offseason.  The two teams that are very interested in his rights are Pittsburgh and Oakland.

As far as looking ahead, yes I always look ahead.  I am in a deep keeper league.  I have amassed 4 of the first 10 picks next year.  Why?  Because I really like the list of rookies coming out.(Listed above.)    If Fitzgerald manages to come out, I think this will be one of the greatest receiving corps to come out in a LONG time.

Fitzgerald won't be coming out this season and I wouldn't be suprised if he does not come out until he finished college.

I do believe Mike Williams, WR from USC has already said he would make himself eligible for the 04 draft.

I agree with your rankings here, although John Navarre could sneak into the top 3 with a solid showing on New Year's Day.  Do you really think the Packers would be interested in a QB from the Bayou?   ;)

I like Jackson best too, but don't think the Bengals will grab him.  Rudi is the man there.  Keep an eye out for Michael Turner (from Northern Illinois) and Cedric Cobbs (Arkansas).

Lee Fitzgerald will be the first WR taken if he comes out.  Reggie Williams has a bit more size than Roy Williams, but I'd take either one.  Lee Evans (Wisconsin) is receiving a lot of attention lately - he's small, but fast.  (Also, Mike Williams - USC - is just a soph, so he's got another year of NCAA football.)

The Redskins have to look at RB or D-Line with their first pick.  Look for Winslow to end up in Cleveland now that Butch Davis is safe.  Ben Watson (Georgia) and Ben Troupe (Florida) are also among the top tight ends coming out.

I just posed a few links to some mock drafts. Feel free to add to the list.

I'll be doing my NFL draft previews again this off season. Look for them soon!!

He didn't have a great showing, but I think a lot of that was the coaching (a pathetic attempt at such by Lloyd Carr).

Regardless, I think Navarre could be a solid pro.  He's got great size 6'6", a strong arm, enough mobility...

Mike Williams is not coming out because he is a true sophomore this season, but USC WR Keary Colbert certainly put on a show for the scouts.  The guy looked great!  Look for him to perform well at the combine too and climb the boards some.

Two prominent offensive players have backed out of the East-West Shrine Game.

WR Keary Colbert (USC) - Not a big loss because everyone got to see him put on a show in the Rose Bowl.

RB Michael Turner (N. Ill.) - I was really looking forward to seeing this guy actually play a game.  I keep reading wonderful things about him.

Also, Eli Manning has backed out of the Senior Bowl.  Word is that he has already signed with IMG and will be heading off to Bradenton, FL, to begin pre-draft workouts at the agency's facilities.  He seems to be a concensus pick for the #1 spot, so there's no point in him playing any more.

More news...

DE David Pollack (Georgia) and WR Braylon Edwards (Michigan) both decided to return for their senior years.  Both of them would have garnered some first round interest.

Having seen Braylon Edwards play a couple times this year, I think he made the right decision.  He underimpressed and could use another year under his belt.
