I guess my first question is:

While it seems a forgone conclussion that Eli Manning will be the first pick over all, do you really think the Chargers will take him?

I just don't see Marty taking a QB. Marty is hanging on to his job by a thread. I don't think he can afford to take a QB. I would not be surprised to see the Chargers trade this pick to the Cards.

Now on to the second pick. If there is going to be a surprise in the draft I think it will be here. There is no telling what the hell the Raiders will do. They are clearly a team in need of many parts. They are old in so many positions. So, again, I see the Raiders trading out of this spot if the price is right just like Philly siad. I think Fitzgerald as well as Rothlesburger makes sense at this spot.

We are doing this mock without trades. We both agree that there will be plenty of moves on draft day. Jeff and I both think that San Diego will trade their pick, but to whom, is unclear. So, se decided to do our initial mock without trades...

Robert Gallery to the G-Men is a great pick. He really fills a need.

The question I have is with all the solid free agent lineman out there, will they wait til the draft? IF they don;t take a lineman, who do you think they would take? A D-Lineman?

The Giants have more than one hole on the line, so I can see them picking up a lineman in FA as well as Gallery. They were so bad that David Deihl, a 5th round pick last year, started most of the season.

A healthy Luke Pettigout, Chris Bober, Ian Allen a solid free agent guard and Gallery will help fix the line problems.

The Giants also have the second pick in the second round and there will still be some high-quality OTs and OGs available at that point too. It's not inconceivable that they use their first two picks to improve their O-line for a long time to come.

In the second round OG/OT Vernon Carey (Miami) might still be available, as well as OTs Jacob Rogers (USC), Tony Pape (Michigan), Max Starks (Florida) and OGs Chris Snee (BC), Justin Smiley (Alabama), Stephen Peterman (LSU), and Shannon Snell (Florida). Almost all of these players would be solid picks in the beginning of the second round.

I agree that Taylor would be a great pick for the Lions.......However........I know they drafted Pinner in last years draft, but that was with a late round pick. Why wouldn't a team like the Lions with an aging and big salary slot running back like james stewart and very little solid depth at the position(Gary and Pinner), not take a franchise back like jones or jackson?

Can you imagine the offensive power, potential and future the Lions could have with Harrington, Rogers, and one of these two backs?

I was surprised to see you have Tommie Harris going to Atlanta. I really think Atlanta is going to take a WR. Roy Williams is a great value at the #7 pick. He could be a great play maker to complement Peerless Price.

Being in Redskin country, I am hearing more and more rumors that the Redskins are interested in Sean Taylor,S, Mia. Gregg Williams uses the safety a lot in his defensive packages. Personally, I really think they need Udeze. Their D line is pathetic, but I am just repeating the local scuddlebutt.

Anyway, on the Tommie Harris to Atlanta projection: Their new coach is a defensive guy, and the Falcons need big-time help with their defense. I personally am not sold on Tommie Harris. Until he puts on some more weight, I don't think he'll be making much of an impact in the NFL.

I know TO is making a big push to play in Atlanta, and if that is really where he wants to be, he'll probably make some concessions in his contract demands.

More news to consider with the Skins pick.

They just granted Champ Bailey permission to seek a trade.

This gives more credance to the info(rumors) swirling around that they will take a certain Safety out of Miami.

I was slightly surprised to that you have the Chicago Bears taking DT Starks out of Maryland. I would be really surprised if Starks went this early.

Second, I don't think Chicagos biggest need is DT. From what I am hearing, I think Lovie Smith is looking for a running back. I think Kevin Jones fits the need. If not then on the defensive side, I think Chicago needs a cornerback more than a DT. But once again, this is just my opinion......

I know you were not considering trades, but if the Bears don't take Kevin Jones, I would look for them to trade down. I don't think there is much difference between Deangelo Hall(Va Tech), Duanta Robinson(South Carolina), Chris Gamble(Ohio St), Will Poole(USC), and Derrick Straight(Okla)

The single biggest change the Bears have had from their 13-3 season a few years back to their disappointing efforts since then have been their loss of the two monsters in the middle of the D-line.

I agree that the Bears need a RB, but there has been plenty of speculation that they will address that need through free-agency. I've also read some articles stating that the Bears believe they can win with A-Train and Brock Forsey.

As far as the d-backs are concerned, there is very little separating the top 5 CBs you listed. Hall, Strait, and Gamble are probably rated a notch ahead of Robinson and Poole, but there will still be quality CBs available in the second round too. So I personally believe the Bears won't trade out of the spot.

I like most of the picks so far with 2 exceptions: I think MOOCH will take Winslow, and I too think the bears will take a RB. Now that i rethink it, Da Bears could wait until round 2 to get their RB, so forget that one.

The Bengals could have a sweet secondary if they grab Derrick Strait this year. Add him to Tory James and, the player many forget about, Dennis Weathersby, and you have some serious talent.

(Dennis Weathersby was the first pick on day two in the 2003 draft. He is a very solid CB who got shot as he was leaving church not long before the draft. He is fully recovered now and would have been a 2nd round pick had he not been in the wrong place at the wrong time.)

Just to let people know... Jim was away for the weekend and has computer troubles now, so I've been making the picks (we came to concensus on the entire first round before we started). And I'll be offline all of next week, so Jim will be making all the picks.

We're also continuing with the draft we put together a few weeks back. Many things have changed (Clarett, Mike Williams?, combine performances, teams trading players in positions of need, etc) that probably would affect this draft. But not to worry, we'll address all of that in due time.

Speaking as a cowboy fan, I certainly hope we don't waste a first round pick on an offensive linemen. There are way too many skilled position players that could make an impact on the Cowboys roster. Galloway and Glenn are on the downside of their careers and after bryant got a spell of the dropsies last year, I'm not so sure we couldn't use one of the talented young WR still available. Depending on if we pick up a RB in free agency, I think perry, greg jones, or williams could be a good pick too. I also like a few of the CB's and LB's.

RB is a tough position to call this year. If Kevin Jones or Steven Jackson slip down to the Cowboys, I have no doubt that they will grab one of them. After those two, however, there might not be any other RB value until round 2. Greg Jones has some baggage - his injury and his attitude (he refused to do any work as a blocking back in the Senior Bowl practices). Chris Perry has some question marks about his ability. He's a solid back, but doesn't do anything that screams first rounder.

I still think the Cowboys will grab a RB in free agency (Corey Dillon, Duce Staley) and draft a RB in the 3rd or 4th round (where there will be some great value - check out the 4th round for RBs last year).

As far as WR is concerned, I heard on Philly sports talk radio today that the Cowboys and Bucs could be talking about swapping Joey Galloway for Keyshawn Johnson. They won't give up on Bryant yet.

I don't believe that Dillion is a free agent. They would have to cut or trade him if Dallas wants him.

I believe Washington will take Taylor and Detroit will take Kevin Jones.

Dallas will take either a DT or RB

You're right... Dillon, however, wants out of Cincinnati and, with the emergence of Rudi Johnson (who is a free agent), I believe Cincinnati will be more than happy to let Dillon go.

As good as Mike Williams is, I don't think he'll go that high. I think he'll be the third WR taken behind Fitz and Roy Williams (although Roy Williams did measure a bit smaller/lighter at the combine than teams expected). I see Mike Williams going somewhere between 10 and 15. (Rashaun Woods is really climbing the draft boards too - many feel he will have the most immediate impact and he ran very well at the combine too.)

It's kind of a shame that he is coming out. I was really looking forward to watching he and Matt Leinart at USC next fall. Regardless, this makes the WR draft pool the best I've seen in my lifetime.

I would take Mike Williams over any of the WR's in this years draft. He is the best one. He has the best combination of size and speed in the draft. If I recall correctly, Fitzgerald was totally shut down by the Miami secondary last year.

Thanks. It wasn't too much work - more fun than anything. I have to give props to Jim too because it was very easy to come up with a list with him. We both were willing to give a little when we disagreed with a team need or player prospect.

Unfortunately, the mock we put up is very dated now in light of underclassmen entering the draft and teams addressing needs in free-agency. We'll be updating things quite a bit over the next month and a half before the draft. Stay tuned! [smiley=shiteatingrin.gif]
