Title: The J and J NFL Mock Draft Post by BarnabyWilde on Feb 3rd, 2004, 11:48pm Well, it is that time. Time for the first official J and J (Jeff and Jim) mock draft. Jeff anf I have studied hard, done our homework, and have come up with our first official mock NFL draft as a team. We will be posting one pick a day. We will more than likely do at least the first 2 rounds, maybe even more! Eli Manning, QB, Mississippi The Chargers will select a new Manning to lead their franchise. He is by far the best QB in the draft and will be an improvement over Brees, who will either ride the pine or be traded somewhere down the line. Manning is a complete player who can get it done. |

Oakland Raiders Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Pittsburgh Oakland is an aging team and has a number of needs and might trade out of this spot to a team looking for a franchise QB. But if they stay put, they won't be able to pass up one of the best WRs to enter the NFL in many years. Fitzgerald combines incredible WR skills with a big physical frame. He'll continue the legacy left by Brown and Rice. |

Arizona Cardinals Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Miami of Ohio While they have their most pressing needs on the defensive side of the ball, the Cardinals select possibly the best QB in the 2004 draft. Despite playing at a small school, Ben Roethlisberger has shown all of the skills necessary to be a franchise QB in the NFL. He'll have the immediate advantages of a solid offensive line and a Pro Bowl WR in Anquan Boldin. |

But injuries and inexperience decimated the offensive line, a major reason for their dismal 4-12 finish. At 6 ft 7, 320, Gallery is a monster left tackle that will anchor the Giants 2004 offensive line, giving Collins some blind side protection. |

Washington Redskins Kenechi Udeze, DE, University of Southern California The Skins have a new (old) coach and a number of needs. The current rumors indicate the selection of TE Kellen Winslow, Jr. as a possibility. The Skins could also look at Kevin Jones or Stephen Jackson at the RB position. But when it is all said and done, Gibbs will want to beef up his lines. Kenechi Udeze is a big (6'4" and 280#) lineman who possesses a great first step, strength to hold position, and enough speed to be a tremendous pass rusher. He registered 16.5 sacks in the 2003 season. |

Detroit Lions Sean Taylor, SS, Miami, Fla The Lions get their impact player for their secondary who gives instant respect. This guy has all the tools to be great for years. At 6'3" 220, he has the size to intimidate receivers coming over the middle, and the speed (he runs a 4.35 40) to help out in coverage. A complete player. |

Atlanta Falcons Tommie Harris, DT, Oklahoma At 6'3" 295, Harris, coming in after declaring himself eligible for the draft after his jr. year for the Sooners, is the top prospect at Defensive Tackle and will immediately help the Falcons interior line in stopping the run, and freeing up the ends for more sack opportunities. |

Cleveland Browns Shawn Andrews, OT, Arkansas Some of the QB issues in Cleveland can be blamed on a weak offensive line. By drafting Andrews, the Browns add a 6'6", 360# lineman with a nasty gametime disposition. He should get an endorsement deal from IHOP because he serves up plenty of pancakes. |

By selecting Wilfork, the Texans get a gigantic man who is actually very athletic for his size. He'll consistently demand the attention of two offensive blockers. The only question about Wilfork is his ability to keep his weight under control and his desire to play hard every down. |

Pittsburgh Steelers Steven Jackson, RB, Oregon St. Pittsburgh takes the best RB available here, and Jackson gets the nod just barely over Kevin Jones. With Bettis getting up in age and Zereoue not the answer, the Steelers are happy to take the versatile back from Oregon State. |

New York Jets Reggie Williams, WR, Washington The Jets tried to replace Laveranues Coles by signing Curtis Conway in the 2003 off-season. That experiment failed miserably. Santana Moss came into his own in 2003, but could do even more with a top-flight receiver on the opposite side of the field, and the Jets oblige by grabbing the big and powerful Reggie Williams in the first round. |

Buffalo Bills Kellen Winslow Jr, TE, Miami, Fla Buffalo's passing woes last year could be contributed to several things, one of them being the lack of quality targets for Drew Bledsoe to throw to when he wasn't buried into the turf. With Winslow, the Bills get a quality tight end to go with Moulds and a hopefully improved Josh Reed. |

Chicago Bears Randy Starks, DT, Maryland The Bears were hoping that the massive Vince Wilfork would fall to them here, but they get a player with, perhaps, even more upside in Randy Starks. Starks, an underclassman, is very strong and weighs in at just over 300 pounds, however, he might be a bit tall at 6'4" for the DT position. He possesses great athleticism and has great upside potential. |

Tampa Bay Bucs Kevin Jones, RB, Virginia Tech Tampa Bay looks to make an upgrade here at the running back position, and Jones is the best pure runner the draft has to offer. He has great speed and toughness in the mold of a Jamal Lewis type back. |

San Francisco 49ers DeAngelo Hall, CB, Virginia Tech The 49ers need an upgrade in their secondary and fastest player coming out of college could be the one they are looking for. While Hall has outstanding speed and very good coverage skills, the knock on him is his size. At 5'9", he'll be giving up quite a few inches to the NFL WRs who seem to be getting taller every year. |

Cincinnati Bengals Derrick Strait, CB, Oklahoma The Bengals were so close to making the playoffs in Marvin Lewis's first year as head coach. Improving his defense to reach them this year will be his priority, and getting another good corner is a top priority. Strait is as solid as they come, and starting opposite Tory James is not out of the question to start the season. |

Minnesota Vikings Chris Gamble, CB, Ohio St. Some may view this pick as a gamble as Chris Gamble is still learning the techniques of the CB position after switching from WR, but one thing is clear, Gamble has the athletic skills, the speed, the hands, and the attitude to succeed. The Vikings collapse this past season was due in a very large part to defensive shortcomings. Gamble will make it much harder to throw against the Vikings. |

Fiedler is not good enough to get them over the hump. Griese was a disaster. Unless they sign a good young signal caller (or a solid vet) before the draft, QB could be their first selection. Rivers put up some amazing numbers as a 4-year starter at NC State and topped it off with a great Senior Bowl performance. |

New England Patriots (from Baltimore) Darnell Dockett, DT, Florida St. The Pats have a number of free agents on their defensive line and won't be able to sign all of them. With Dockett they get a DT with outstanding athleticism. He dominated a number of quality O-linemen in the Senior Bowl, increasing his stock dramatically. |

It seems that Parcells might stick with Quincy Carter and add a veteran RB (Corey Dillon). Who better to protect the QB and open holes for the RB than a massive OT like Dorsey (who, as a freshman, dominated Julius Peppers). |

Seattle Seahawks Will Smith, DE, Ohio St. Holmgren and the Hawks are ecstatic that Smith is still available here. Needing a serious upgrade at the end position, Seattle gets a quick outside pass rusher with good upside. |

Because the cornerback pool is so deep this year, the Broncos grab the best DE still available in Odom. Odom is a big man who can get after a QB and also hold the point of attack to stop the run. A good pass rush can also help make a weak secondary look better. |

Losman, QB, Tulane A guy whos stock has risen as of late, Losman becomes the heir apparent to Bret Favre. Losman has all the tools to be a sucessful NFL Quarterback, and he gets to learn from one of the all time greats. Not a bad gig. |

St. Louis Rams Ben Troupe, TE, Florida The Rams could use a big tight end in the red zone, and Troupe fits the bill. He's got nice hands and at 6 ft 4 295, is a big target. He is also an excellent blocker as well. |

Tennessee Titans Karlos Dansby, LB, Auburn The Titans build on there already formidable defense by adding Dansby, a versatile linebacker. He also adds insurance if Jevon Kearse bolts via free agency. A solid pick this late in the first round. |

Philadelphia Eagles Marquise Hill, DE, LSU Standing tall at 6 ft 7, 300 pounds, Hill is a great pick by Reid and company. He is a great pure rusher and hard to move off the line. Also is an exceptional athlete. |

The colts just released a slew of players, including Chad Bratzke. They need some help on defense, and Vilma is a complete linebacker. He will step right in and start for Dungy. |

Kansas City Chiefs Rashaun Woods, WR, Oklahoma St. Of all the receivers in this years draft, Woods is the one guy who can produce right away. He has all the tools, plus the maturity to be a great NFL receiver. Look for him to become a favorite target downfield for Trent Green. |

Carolina Panthers Will Poole, CB, USC The Panthers go defense here, and Poole has been moving up the draft boards lately. He has the luxury of a great front four in front of him and a great defensive minded coach in John Fox. He has start by mid year. |
