Title: 2001 Post Draft Resources Post by StegRock on May 1st, 2004, 1:28pm This, from "The REAL Feed", is a real goodie in my mind: Grading the NFL Draft: The REAL draft grades according to AP (http://www.canada.com/sports/football/story.html?id=E3C02B73-3702-4181-9ECA-E183F9F57EBA) FaceOff: Football (30.04.2004 14:28) (AP) - With their first-round pick, the Carolina Panthers chose linebacker Dan Morgan. Then they took defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and wide receiver Steve Smith. A bit cynical of a springboard, but a, nevertheless, solid premise. |

Title: Re: 2001 Post Draft Resources Post by Philly on May 3rd, 2004, 11:26am Maybe I'm jumping to my own defense here a bit, because I'm one of those who gave out grades on the 2004 draft already... It's perfectly fair to give grades on the draft at any point in the process - a minute after the pick or 10 years later. My article really focused on how well the teams manipulated the picks they had and addressed their needs or grabbed players who (at this point) have the potential to make a big impact. Sure it's easy to give the Detroit Lions a high grade because they got a top flight WR and RB, but my grade also considered the fact that they were able to obtain a second round pick by dropping back one spot in the first round and passing up on the opportunity to select Kellen Winslow (who I have some serious concerns about). To say that it is not possible to grade a draft before the players have even put on an NFL uniform is ludicrous. It is a naive premise at very best. |
