Title: Post Season Advantage : suggestions.
Post by KillerKingSting on Jun 1st, 2004, 12:07pm
My league, the Insane Gang, plays a full 17 game NFL regular season as OUR FF regular season.
Then, the top 4 ranked teams go to the FF post season and we play it in the NFL post Season games , from wild-card to superbowl (and maybe pro-bowl as well).

In the NFL post Season the top 4 teams will completely have to RE-DRAFT their teams.

Its a 30 player roster and you play the WHOLE roster every week (obviously you'll have some players not make it to certain weeks because of their MFL team being eliminated from the competition).

My feeling is the owners should get advanatges in this FF post season set-up based on where they placed at the end of the season.

My thoughts are : the advantages should come in the draft.

My question is : any ideas on what I should do?

Any comments would be helpful. Multiple grains of salt are saved for any comments JoJo would have on this matter [smiley=LMFAO.gif]. other than that, let er fly!

My thinking is a First to Worst drafting order. But for how many rounds? The whole 30? or half? Or 1/3dr? a 1/4th?
((First to Worst being 1st ranked team gets the #1 pick, 2nd ranked team the #2 pick etc etc and then after one round is completed, rather than snaking backwards as in a serpentine fashion, the order jumps back up to the 1st ranled team for the 2.1 pick)).

The preset, non-serpentine drafting order was the first thing I thought of as well.

You might as well keep it all the way through the draft for a couple reasons...

1st - it will be easier to manage for the commish...
2nd - after the first few rounds, there will be much less difference between the 1st and 4th player taken in each round.  For example, the 21st round, will there be a big drop-off in talent from the 85th pick to the 88th pick?  Probably not.  By that point, with the limited number of NFL play-off teams, you're going to be looking at rather insignificant players stat-wise.

I like your suggestion Jeff. I was thinking the same but, didn't want to establish to much of an advantage to where the other teams didn't have a chance.

But I know you have a vast knowledge of the player pool right off the top of your head so, keep it super simple, this is the best way to go.

Now if I wanted to get intricate w/ it then, I could go by # of wins greater than the next ranked team when comparing all owners.

In other words, Team rank #1 has 2 more wins than team 2. Team 2 has 2 more wins than team 3. Team 3 has 2 more wins than team 4.

Team 1 would then, draft 2 players before any other team. This would reflect the # of wins team one has over team 2.

Then, team 1 & 2 would draft serpentine for 2 rounds reflecting the amount of wins team 2 has over team 3.

Then, team 1, 2 & 3 would then draft serpentine for another 2 rounds reflecting the amount of wins team 3 has over team 4.

When team 4 gets to draft then, its serpentine for everyone until all players are fulfilled.

That was just one idea. :P

A guy to contact about this would be our member "mcohen".  His NAFFLIU, which is in the FFLA, has done this EXACT THING you are talking about for about NINE or so years now.  He is not around here too much, but he is very diligent about replying by e-mail.  Just mention that I steered you to him and he will follow through, I am sure.  Here's his contact stuff:

Good luck hammering this out! [smiley=shamrock.gif]

Hey thanks! Steve! I'll email him and see what he says. If he has been doing this for 9 years or at least, something similiar to this then, his knowledge would be second to none.

[smiley=laugh.gif] No I'm reserving that for either a Duke/JoJo combo @ the end of the season when I smash them & their teams to smither-roni's or better yet, I am dreaming of Pusanamy, my Asian Domme, , Pusan babe-bee, if you can hear me, I wait for you long time! I am all yours! I am the only Insane Player that come equipped w/ a stinger babe-bee!! I am making Pollen right now!

Jokes aside, I do appreciate the help there Steve, in fact I read a little about his league a while back and thought it was kool that he and his mates are bucking the traditional system of championship status being determined in the NFL regular season.

I have a decent knowledge of the player pool.  But keep in mind I don't play IDP, so I couldn't tell you who the starting DEs for the Chargers are... so cut my knowledge in half and you'd be closer to the truth.

Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly...  Let me see if I am.
Round 1 - Team 1 - 1 player
Round 2 - Team 1 - 1 player
Round 3 - Team 1 & 2 - 1 player each
Round 4 - Team 1 & 2 - 1 player each
Round 5 - Team 1, 2, & 3 - 1 player each
Round 6 - Team 1, 2, & 3 - 1 player each
Round 7 - Team 1, 2, 3, & 4 - 1 player each
etc.
So, essentially, Team 4 does not get to pick until the 16th player overall, while Team 1 already has seven players on his roster?  Sounds very unfair (and completely un-competitive) in my opinion (unless I am misunderstanding things).

Yah, I think so as well which is why I posted for help. I think I'll stick w/ the first to worst method & perhaps also get some feedback from Steve's friend.
