Title: Interboard Challenge
Post by Philly on Jun 11th, 2004, 3:10pm
Is there any chance that FantasyFootballer.com could get involved in this?  I'm not very familiar with it, though I know some of you have participated in it via FFToday.com.

How does a board gain entry?  How many people would we need?

If anyone could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it.   [smiley=bow.gif]

I participated last year on behalf of FFToday.  JetDoc was our moderator.  CapLou was on the team.  DocNiner was on a different team, but he participated; also he had been on FFToday's team in 2002.

It was incredibly challenging and time intensive.  Last year there were 5 drafts going on with I would love to see us get involved, and I would be happy to participate for us.  I can't give the time to help moderate this year, however.

I withdrew myself from the FFToday team, although I probably would not have been asked back.  I was in the bottom five of all participants - out of 60?  Compare that to how I did in the GBRFL2, CBFL, KJGYL, etc. and you will understand just how competitive it is.  I know I can do better - the main reason I did so poorly was predraft trading.

I will go through my old emails tonight and see if I can find some links.  Emailing JetDoc might be a good place to start.

One thing we would definitely need is 12 participants willing to do it.

Well, assuming KJ's League is not going to return for 2004, I'm definitely interested in participating.

Running the show, however, might prove to be a bit much for me.  Hopefully there would be someone else with a little time to do that.

I'll drop JetDoc an email and see if I can glean anything.

Here is the link to the IBC message board: http://ffwarroom.com/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Interboard+Challenge&number=26&DaysPrune=1000&SUBMIT=Go

Here are the rules: http://ffwarroom.com/ubb/Forum26/HTML/001547.html

Here is the league scoring site: http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2003/home/29796

Here are the draft sites, you really can't tell much from them due to all the trades between drafts:

http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2003/options?L=74639&O=17
http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2003/options?L=75095&O=17
http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2003/options?L=88219&O=17
http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2003/options?L=75809&O=17
http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2003/options?L=82800&O=17

If we can operate as a team we can do well... but it takes a tremendous amount of time.   You will think you understasnd, but you really won't until you do it.  I almost can't imagine the commitment required to be one of the commish's (and we would have to have one as part of the commish team).

There are some real sharks out there.  Da Bomb will steal your clothes and have you thanking him for giving you a rag.  He is a great guy, don't get me wrong.

The time commitment is huge, but its worth it.  Working as a team while managing your own team was maybe the best part of the whole situation.  With 5 drafts and the ability to trade within your own board and outside your own draft optimized the opportunity to get targetted players.

Thanks for the links.  I'll check it out.

Maybe, since this is such a big undertaking, we can look to give it a go in 2005?  If there is enough interest, of course.

For instance, you may notice that someone timed out.  That pick had been traded and no longer belonged to the individual who timed out.  Because the trades went between the drafts as well as within them, they were handled by the commish's, not MFL.

I'd love to do it, I just can't commish.  I really want us to participate in this thing - I talked to Steggie about it when I originally signed up last year.  I think I even talked with you about it.  I just need to live up to my commitments and not bite off more than I can chew.

IF we can get 12 people who want to do it, then lets go for it!  If not, table it for a year.  I just wouldn't want to go into this with some people we are unsure of and who could embarrass us (not with their results, but with their attitude and commitment).

I hear ya.  I don't think I could take on the commish duties right now.

I also know that sometimes, around here, it is tough getting even a half dozen people to commit to anything.

That being said, if there is enough interest, I'm in.

I keep thinking of one last thing.  :D  ::)

The people you will meet while doing this are worth it.  There are some really great individuals involved in this thing.  A lot of them would fit right in here.

And then there are some I would not want around no matter what.  You know the type.  Anyhow, its fun to compete against them and blow them away.

This would be of particular interest if we could get Steggie or JYJ to join: http://ffwarroom.com/ubb/Forum26/HTML/001797.html

I spoke yesterday about this with Jeff.  He knows my take on it all.  As for my being instrumental with this this year, ain't happenin',... not even close.  That said, the idea would be to represent "the Gridiron @ FantasyFootballer.com" in this thing.  As such (after mulling things over since talking with Jeff yesterday), I would want some kind of  "executive-ish" decision-making power, i.e., in tight situations regarding trades or free-agents, at least consult me/ask me my take.  I mean you would be representing my site, so...

In any event, make no mistakes...  I am interested in these types of ventures, BUT summer-fall, 2004 could not be a worse time for me to deal with this stuff. :-/

I was yanking your chain more than anything.  If you would be available to be a part of the team - as a consultant or whatever - would be more than I really expected.

The behavior that caused that post (probably) is the unapproachability of owners and experts who have become almost a rumor of a rumor on their own sites.  I know how that used to bug me.

?.?.? There was no post I was reacting to, bg.  I just wrote that in light of it all. :)

I will take that as an indirect compliment. ;D

The interest really is underwhelming.   ::)

Guys, if you want a challenge, this is it.  The biggest, most well-known FF boards on the internet are involved.  They each select members to participate.  It is the cream of the crop.  Also it would be a great way to promote this site.  As I kind of mentioned before, I don't mean just with our FF accumen, but also with everything else that comprises "The Gridiron Spirit".

If we don't get a team together this year, we should still start lobbying now.  Maybe we could follow the drafts and get a better feel for next year?

This year or any other, I can't wait to go to war for The Gridiron!

I think that this league would be the biggest challenge
for any who have never participated.Last year we had
five separate drafts with trading allowed in or out of
your draft. You cannot however own the same player twice. There are five of every NFL players available.
You play a team from each board every week. With
five boards involved last year, your team would play against four teams on a weekly basis.

FFToday got involved for the 2002 season. We sent
a pretty good group, but finished third out of four
boards. It actually took a few of us a good month or so
to get the hang of this league.

We made some changes for the 2004 season. Jet chose
some new faces, and we almost went wire to wire. We
lost the Championship during week 17 by a grand
total of one point. Why the league even plays the last
week of the season is beyond me. I hope that this
changes for 2004 if the league stays intact.

I am not sure what my status will be regarding this league for the 2004 season. If I can recall, I finished
about 13th out of forty eight teams for 2002, but 2003
had me about in the middle. I did have some bad luck
with guys like Vick, Porter etc., but made whatever trades I could in order to offsett injured high draft picks.
In the end, I drafted players from all five drafts. I was
very active on the trade front, and really enjoyed it.

As of right now, I am planning to go back to try and win
this thing if asked. I am not sure what my status is at
this time, but expect that JetDoc will send out invites
in the future to those he plans on keeping. If I am cut,
please keep me in mind for a slot if available.

If any of you were around when Steggie first started this site, and let people know about it over there, check out who the individual champion was last year.  He is one individual I would love to beat and go to war against.  I really can't stand him and he is, just maybe, the anti-Gridironer.

He is really the only person I didn't enjoy interacting with last year.

I think it would be silly to try to get in for the 2004 season at this point.  With only a few people willing to make a commitment so far, we would be a laughingstock if we tried.

Agreed. But between Steg, Philly, bgsgfan, Dirk Diggler, Captain Lou, 420, Tony_O, Dolfan, KillerKingSting, kidcrash, myself and whoever else wanted to participate, we'd have a real solid team.

You don't really have me this year as I stated.  That said, you would be representing my site, so I would demand some "executive" "final" decision-making power, BUT you guys would have to do ALL the legwork, which seems to be SUBSTANTIAL for this endeavor.  POINT BEING, do whatever; HOWEVER, do NOT count on me AT ALL, BUT be prepared for me to still want to have some say in "things", EVEN THOUGH MY SPECIFIC PARTICIPATORY LEVEL SHOULD NOT MERIT IT, i.e. disproportionate to my level of participation, and then be prepared to NOT get pissed off at me for doing that.  That's my concern; well, that, and I would want us to make a "good showing".  If we just go in and suck, that would NOT be helping the cause.  Anyway, I just want to lay it ALL out there... so there are NO misunderstandings about whence I am coming with respect to this.

A two board weekly challenge between The Steg Board and FFToday would be much easier and probably get more interest. That Interboard challenge really does look very labor intensive.

Maybe like 5 guys from here, 5 guys from FFToday.

I haven't talked to him, but I will sometime late this season or early next off-season to see if we can set something up.

My plate is pretty full right now anyway.  But I would definitely be interested in it for 2005.
