Title: Here it is...my team Post by Yankeegirl49 on Aug 26th, 2004, 7:30am First, thanks for the help yesterday. We had the draft last night and here is what I ended up with picking #7. As I said yesterday, I have a partner who doesn't know very much about FF. Some of the picks he wanted were plain old nuts & I wouldn't make them, others I caved in and gave him. My comments on my thinking are included. Please feel free to add yours. RB Jamal Lewis-went with the advice here, I'll keep my fingers crossed. RB Corey Dillon-Best avail, should have a good year on a new team. QB Matt Hasselbeck-A little early for QB, but top receivers gone and partner wanted QB. Vick, Manning and Culpepper already gone. WR Joe Horn-Best receiver avail, I do like him though. RB Deshaun Foster-I know, too early, but I went with mu gut on this one. I think he will get a lot of carries and a lot of yards, even if Davis is healthy and if Davis goes down..watch out! I really wanted this one & knew that the guy who took Davis was going to get him if I waited. WR Keyshawn Johnson-Back with Bill & Vinny...could be big. TE Randy McMichael-I know Miami sucks, but I needed a TE and decided to take a shot. DEF Balt-had them last season and they were the difference in a few of the weeks. WR Joey Galloway-With Mcardell holing out, he could end up big. WR Peter Warrick-Partner wanted this one, I don't know much about him, probably won't be used much. QB Jake Delhome-Good backup K Olindo Mare-Figure that he won't get too many extra point opportunities but may get a lot of long field goals. Have I said that Miami sucks? (I am a Dolphin fan) RB Antwain Smith-Good numbers last seaon part time, should do well, and he is my 4th RB TE Jason Whitten-Partner picked, don't even know the guy. DEF Tenn Def-backup only for the Balt bye week. K Jay Feely-Why not? Another backup. RB Musa Smith-If Lewis goes down or the legal situation becomes a problem, I have his backup. QB Philip Rivers-Partner insisted on this one. Won't see the light of day in my lineup. If he does well, maybe can be used in a trade with someone who needs a QB. WR Antonio Bryant-Best left at this point. TE Dallas Clark-see above. |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 26th, 2004, 7:46am QBs: Nice job here. Hasselbeck is a great starter, and Delhomme is a nice backup. If this is a keeper league, then Rivers doesn't hurt. RB's: Lewis and Dillon make a nice RB tandem. Way to early for Foster. Musa was a smart pick. Not sure about A. Smith, unless Brown falters, he's worthless. WR's: Keyshawn and Galloway may pan out for you behind Horn. Warrick is hurt, but isn't a bad #4. TE's: Three of them? Not really necessary. I'd drop one and try to get some more WR depth. K: I'd start Feely over Mare in a heart beat. Miami isn't going to score many points at all, Atlanta will. D: Balt and Tenn, nice tandem. How many teams in this league? If there is 12 or less, there has to be better receivers sitting on the waiver wire right now. Other than that, not bad Yankeegirl (FYI, Thurman Munson was my here growing up) |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by Yankeegirl49 on Aug 26th, 2004, 7:53am 12 teams in the league, not many good WR left. Waivers can't be made until after the first week. A couple of guys only have 1 TE, may be able to trade for another WR somewhere down the road. Thanks for your comments. I loved Thurman too! |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 26th, 2004, 7:57am If you get a chance, can you list some receivers you think are decent that are still available? I'd like to see who's out there... |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by Yankeegirl49 on Aug 26th, 2004, 8:08am To be honest...I don't know if these guys are decent or not, most are probably 3rd stringers, some I've never heard of. Bobby Engram-Sea Tai Streets-Det Jerome Pathom-NO Bethel Johnson-NE Tim Brown- TB (he is with TB now right?) A. Randle El-PIT (thought about this one) Kelly Campbell (MIN) Tim Carter-NYG Most of these weren't even on anyone's list. |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by bgsgfan on Aug 26th, 2004, 8:43am I agree completely with what BW said. I'd look at grabbing Jenkins, Gaffney, or Campbell in that order; although any of the WRs listed and available would be more use than a 3rd TE. Problem would be which TE to drop - I like all 3 about the same, although McMichael has more upside (even with legal problems). I like Clark more than Witten, but you and your P can argue that one out. Good job overall, and good luck! |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by captainpurple on Aug 26th, 2004, 9:38am Nice jobe YG! There's one flaw/tendency on draft day that I have to keep myself from succumbing to, which is trying to fill all the positions on a roster. Every year I find myself thinking, "I gotta get a TE here" in the 6th-7th round, when in fact, there's a ton of value in the late rounds at that position. It looks like that's about the only problem with your draft, as evidenced by the McMichael pick in the 7th. Dallas Clark was still there for you in the last round, and he's projecting a very nice season, overtaking Pollard as Manning's safety valve. You might want to peek at the WRs taken immediately after that pick to see "what could've been". Then again, I'm a confessed masochist ;D But hey! I'm nitpicking, overall, a solid draft! [smiley=yes.gif] RB Well done with 1st 2 picks. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Foster a reach/gamble. Musa a smart handcuff. ASmith is most likely not seeing much more than a few 3rd down change-of-pace opportunities and may be expendable. WR Horn is a good pick. If you get return yds/pts Warrick is a nice value in the 10th. Me-Shawn is a decent #2 if Vinny is at QB. But definitely agree with others here, more depth is needed. Don't like Bryant cuz you can never start both Me-Shawn and Bryant QB Hasselbeck is a solid QB. Other value may have existed at this pick, and certainly QBs close to this value would've been available later, but can't argue too much with this one. Delhomme is a decent bye week fill-in. Find a Charger homer to dump Rivers off on though. TE As above, RMich was a reach, but LOVE DClark where you got him. Try to dump Witten for a 3rd WR (on his respective depth chart) out there that may have a chance to move into a starting role. K&D/ST Solid kickers, and you even waited until the 12th to get one, very nice job there. Hard to argue with Balt in the 8th too. They should be top a 5 D and that's about the right spot, though I've seen them go as early as the 4th-5th more often than not in drafts this year. Welcome to the GridIron, look forward to you're participation throughout the year! [smiley=cheers.gif] GO VIKES! |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by Philly on Aug 26th, 2004, 10:00am I agree with just about everything everyone else is saying. I think you should drop Antowain Smith or Jason Witten and pick up Jabar Gaffney or Antwaan Randle El at WR for their break-out potential. You're more than solid at TE with McMichael and Clark (great value!). Also, Antowain Smith will be lucky to get 3-4 carries a game, and even if Chris Brown goes down to injury, look for Tennessee to throw the ball more or even go with one of their younger backs instead of running Antowain Smith 20+ times a game. |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by prm on Aug 26th, 2004, 7:30pm i agree - very nice team...i'll bet you can still find someone better than smith - but do you need anyone else??? i will yield to the ffbc gridiron gurus on the foster item - but i probably would've chosen him early as well...i got him for the same reasons, but i'm in an auction league - so draft position wasn't an issue...here's where everybody's gonna yell at me - but my receivers are stallworth / j. walker / a. johnson...mostly because i think after moss - they all have the same probability of being the same guy...i usually play good matchups each week & if i see one - i jump on it...it costs me a little for transaction fees - but i've won 4/6 championships in my league without a "stud receiver'...but i would be happy w/ your team for the most part...nice work... prm... |

Title: Re: Here it is...my team Post by Referee on Aug 27th, 2004, 12:31am [offtopic]Though this thread has gone in a direction appropriate for "the Red Zone", its initial topic is more apropos "between the 20's". Given that combined with the opportunity to continue to set good precedent (with our new members) here on "the Gridiron", this thread is going to be moved. Thank you for posting, Yankeegal, and, moreover, for anticipatively understanding and cooperating in the future with our organizational efforts here. [smiley=bow.gif][/offtopic] |
