Title: GRIDIRON GUARANTEE - Week Seven
Post by Philly on Oct 21st, 2004, 3:40pm
Gridiron Guarantee is a weekly feature where you get to show off your football knowledge [smiley=graduate.gif] and make a bold prediction concerning any game or player for the coming weekend.

The prediction can be game-related, fantasy-specific, or personal.  [smiley=footballsmiley.gif]

Make a bold prediction. Don't just say "The Patriots will win again." That's too easy. Predict something that will have everyone in awe when it actually happens. For example, "Daunte Culpepper will throw for SIX touchdowns without Randy Moss in the lineup."  Then come back here on Monday or Tuesday and give us all the "I told you so"s. If you're wrong, who will ever remember?  [smiley=tonguin.gif]

Chad Johnson will score a touchdown. Well, hopefully.

The leading FF WR, RB, and QB in week 7 will all have first or last names that begin with the letter 'D'.

I've been watching WAY too much Sesame Street lately.

Lemme see. A bold prediction. Hmmmmmm.

FANnie JAMmers somehow find a way out of the cellar in the GBRFL2.

Keenan McCardell performs well enough to give me more points with my receivers than Philly for one freaking week in the CBFL.

OK, there's 2 predictions... and I even bolded them.

Let me throw this one out here, too...

[smiley=crystalball.gif]

The Boston area will continue to kick New York while they've got 'em down (and out) and the New England Patriots will stomp on the New York Jets in Foxboro on Sunday to the tune of at least 27 - 14, adding to the misery of a curse ended, that of the Bambino,... and now being reversed on the gridiron.  Let the era of the curse of the "unpaid Bill", Belichick that is, lost to the Jets a few years back, commence!!!

Are you saying that the Patriots have had some kind of curse on them ?  Wow, that sounds like a pretty cool curse, winning 20 straight and 2 of the last three Super Bowls and all.   This Patriot curse sounds kind of like the 'Tiki Curse' from that Brady Bunch episode, remember that one from when the Brady's went on a Hawaiian vacation?  That curse worked out pretty well too; a spider crawled on Bobby, Greg fell off his surf board, and then everybody ended up going to a luau and having tropical drinks.

In any event, I believe the Patriot streak ends this week with the following events unfolding:

Chad Pennington throws 2 TDs, Justin McCareins finally gets more than 50 yards and scores, Curtis Martin struggles to gain 90 yards, but Jets win 24-21.

I have 2 more predictions!!!!!

Droughns fails to gain a 100 rushing yards against the Bungles this monday nighter!
(now THATS going out on a limb).

Duke Mustard, an Insane Gang Banger, finds out 2 things : #1 that he loves golf; #2 that he is gay; and this all results in him changing his name here on the Grid to "A HOLE IN BUN" [smiley=laugh.gif]

Thats it for my predictions this week!

The first one, not gonna happen. The second one, after Vick's stellar performance, I think not. The last one , I wish it did, but, no such luck.

Ah, well, sorry but Me the Bee typing remains the sameold sameold babe-beeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

HOT DANG!!!

Also, Vick Vick Vick, its always his fault isn't it?

That OLINE of the falcons, which i said 2 weeks ago was an achilles heel revealed by the Lions defense, didn't even allow Vick - in a ONE STEP DROP, to step into his throw much less get the pass of before he was smothered by defensive players.

Thats bad when your OL can't afford their QB enough time in a ONE STEP to throw the ball.

Price, one of his MANY ::) stellar receivers dropped passes that were right in his hands all day long.

The coaching staff FAILED to MAX-PRO in their blocking schemes which left Vick a sitting duck.

Vick needs a TEAM behind him and until they get one, I'm benching VickTorious. This is a sad sad day for the King. [smiley=king.gif] :'(

Ultimately, this should say volumes for what Dan Reeves was able to do with basically the same team 2 years ago.

So, what you're really saying is that Vick is no longer a viable FF QB?  That must be the case if he's riding pine for one of his biggest supporters.

LOL, ok, yes, RIGHT NOW, Vick is no longer a viable FF QB until the FALCONS can show some signs of life on offense via their other positions.

That said, Hasselback, who I pointed out had worse FF numbers than Vick was 14 for 41, 1 TD & FOUR INTs yesterday - is Hasselback no longer a viable FF QB either?

I doubt it since he has better TALENT around him.

On the season, Vick has had one very good FF day, one good FF day, and five bad ones.  His QB rating against a poor KC defense was 13.9.  I can't remember the last time I've seen a QB rating so low.

On the other hand, Hasselbeck has had one bad day, three average days, and two good days.  In one less game than Vick, he has thrown for about 270 more yards, 3 more TDs, and had 2 fewer turnovers.

I recently traded Peyton Manning for Matt Hasselbeck in a keeper league (along with some other players), so I'm well aware of how bad Hasselbeck performed yesterday.  But I'd still rather have Hasselbeck week-in week-out than Vick.  At least I know that Hasselbeck will average 250 and a couple TDs each game.  Some days he'll be below that, but others he'll be well above that.  Right now he's underachieving, but he's still a viable starter each week.

Well fact is he (hassleback) wasn't a viable FF QB yesterday or really, all that much this season truth BEE known.
And he would even BEE worse off than Vick if he played for Atlanta

I've been watching WAY too much Sesame Street lately.

  • Well, I came close.  The leading QB was Donovan McNabb.
  • Using Yahoo! FF standard scoring (1 per 20 yards rushing or receiving, 6 per TD), the leading RB (tied with Priest Holmes) was Derrick Blaylock.
  • But the original reason I posted this guarantee was because I thought Donald Driver would be the #1 FF WR on the week.  Fortunately for me (in real life, not in this thread) it was Terrell Owens.  (A little known tidbit is that Terrell Owens has two Ds in his middle name, Eldorado...)
