Title: Jeff West's Amazing FF Cheat Sheet
Post by Philly on Jun 28th, 2005, 5:09pm
I've just finished putting together the shell of my cheat sheet.  It's more than just a cheat sheet, though...  I think I shared it with Callie and sameoldsameold last year, so they can comment on it if they'd like.

It has a 2005 schedule with byes, 2005 depth charts, 2004 stats (NFL and fantasy), etc.  All you have to do is input your projections for each player (offense, kicker, and team defense) and the spreadsheet does the rest... It calculates the anticipated fantasy points scored for 2005 -- all you do is sort the players by points and your cheatsheet is complete.

If anyone would like a copy (missing my projections, of course), please scroll down to the third post in thread for a website address.  It's a large Excel spreadsheet (nearly 1 gig total).  I zipped it to save a lot of file space.

I've gotten a few requests already... and no, I'm not going to send it with my projections in it!   I'm still fine-tuning them anyway.  :P

Anyway, for those who I'm going to send it to, here are the instructions on how to use it.  I should emphasize that once I send it to you, it's yours to do whatever you want with.  If you do play with it and improve it, please send me a copy so I can see what you did.  If you really screw it up somehow, I'll be happy to send you another blank copy, but I'm not going to be a customer support center and try to fix any mistakes.

I should point out that this can be used by even the most novice of Excel users.  I'm somewhere in the intermediate knowledge area.  If you're like me you can play with the formulas and the pages.  If you're advanced (which I'm not), please don't criticize my Excel abilities.  I learned a LOT about how to use Excel just by creating this spreadsheet but would love to know more.

Quote:
The starting point of this spreadsheet was sent to me by a fantasy owner a few years back.  I don't remember who it was or where I got it, but I have changed it tremendously.  Feel free to make your own changes and improvements to this.  If you make some really nice changes, I wouldn't mind seeing them!

Directions
Look at the tabs across the bottom of the screen.  Each one of these is a separate page on the spreadsheet (for those of you who don't use Excel much).  Many of them have formulas that refer to a different page, so be careful when you are deleting information!

SCORING page:
The scoring is pretty simple for this spreadsheet.  I didn't include any bonus points for offensive production and the defense doesn't take into consideration scoring based on points or yards allowed.  Change any of the yellow boxes to suit your league's scoring.  The calculations are in Column F (blacked out) if you want to mess with them.

TEAMS page:
This is where most of the work has to be done.  The top 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 2 TEs, and 4 WRs are listed for each team.  Feel free to change these.  Just click on the cell and type in a new name (I'd recommend keeping the lastname, first initial format though.)  Then enter your projections in the yellow boxes and the player's projected fantasy points will appear in the last column.  Do this for all the players listed.  (Note that for rushers and receivers, you enter the # of attempts/catches and the average per attempt/catch - not the number of yards - this is computed by the program.)  Historical team stats for the previous two years are provided as a guide.

DEFs page:
This is for team defenses and special teams.  If someone wants to add some sort of IDP app, I'd love it.  It's something I wanted to do but don't have the time.  Anyway, enter the team stats for the season into the pale yellow boxes.  There are currently seven years of historical stats for a guide.  Remember that the yards allowed and points allowed are not currently considered in the fantasy scoring calculations.

PKs page:
Enter the projected stats into the pale yellow boxes.  For the current scoring algorithm, you only need to add the extra points made, total field goals made, and the 50+ field goals made.  Any of the other information is available if you want to tweak the scoring to suit your league scoring.

CHEAT page:
This is the payoff page.  Once you have all of your projections entered, the projected fantasy points (total, for the season) will appear on this page.  The only thing you'll need to do is sort it from high to low.  Highlight rows A,B,C,D,E and then sort by Pts-Descending.  Do the same for the other positions as well.  (Note that the last column has the defenses and kickers in the same columns, so only highlight those rows you want to sort.)  I've included an ADP column for each position as well.  What I do is go to a site like AntSports or XpertSports and copy their ADP information and sort it by player alphabetically.  Then I enter the information in this spreadsheet for draft reference.  Also, note, that the team name follows the player name and the bye-week is appended to the team name.

SCHED05 page:
A one page NFL schedule grid for the 2005 season.

DEPTH05 page:
Team depth charts on a one-page grid.  This is fairly accurate, but you'll want to check it out anyway as I know some things have changed since minicamps and will change more in training camp.

04QBs/RBs/WRs/TEs/PKs pages:
These pages contain the 2004 stats for each individual player.  Fantasy points are given in the final column, however these do NOT refer back to the first scoring page you entered numbers into.

ADP 2005:
This is just a list of players taken from a website (don't remember which one) in early June 2005.  It is sorted based on a 12-team ADP value.  It will definitely need to be updated.

04-Fantasy PPG:
This came from NFLFreaks.com.  The scoring is theirs.  I especially like being able to see the 1/2 season splits and also the game-by-game scoring.  It's very helpful to see if a player's fantasy stats were inflated by one or two big games.  It also shows who is consistent and who is not.

I should point out that I use this religiously before the season starts.  I add pages whenever I see something I think will help me (like the NFLFreaks stats page).  I have also found that I can keep track of important news just by clicking on the TEAM NAME cell on the Teams page and adding a comment.

If you have any thoughts, comments, suggestions, (constructive) criticisms... please feel free to post them here.

OK - The cheatsheet is now available to everyone!  Just follow the link below, click on "Click Here" and save the file to disk.  It is a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet that is zipped down to about 200k - the spreadsheet itself is about 920k.

If you do download the spreadsheet, please let me know (either post here or send me an IM)... I'm interested to see how many people are checking it out.

Thanks for the kind words guys...

Duke, I don't know how helpful this will be with the Insane League since there are no IDPs or OLs or Punters listed.  The spreadsheet is really designed for those standard re-draft leagues that you see online.

I discovered a couple mistakes as I was putting my projections in...

#1 - on the Teams page, cell F29 (Atlanta) is missing a formula.  Just copy cell F14 and paste it into F29.

#2 - on the Teams page again, cell I120 has a weird formula in it... it should just show the Cleveland 2004 passing yardage.  So, just type 2824 in that cell.

Thanks!  Let me know if you find anything that needs adjusting.

Hey, Philly.  Just saw your new version of the Fantastic Jeff West's Amazing FF Cheat Sheet  (That's my add-on for now.  Great title).

I especially like the new ADP for 2005 and the 2004 PPG sheets.  I already had my CBFL workbook set up, so I haven't had the chance to use your new Sheets yet.  But I have two drafts coming up in August and some others that are not scheduled at this point.  I'll have my stuff in place in your workbook by then.  I doubt if I can improve on your ideas, but if I actually come up with something, I'll gladly share.

PS, also liked the instructions and updates!  (I need stuff like that  [smiley=LMFAO.gif])

PPS - Sorry about the modify, but I thing Phantastic Philly's Amazing FF Cheat Sheet is even better.

Happy 4th, guys.

I downloaded it. As long as I have been playing FF I have made my own VBD based spreadsheets, but this year I am behind (very, very behind) and this should help out tremendously.  Thanks!

BTW, I haven't forgotten, I just haven't done it yet, but I will. I think I have a gambling problem - sticking with $ from here on out.

Aaahh...but it does a GREAT job of projecting for the major offensive players! And anything that saves me time or gives me any kind of edge is a great help to me!
Thanks again,
DUKE
