Title: Draft complete, what do you think?
Post by lumber2121 on Aug 30th, 2005, 8:49am
Here is my roster

QB - M. Hasslebeck, S. McNair
RB - K. Jones, S. Jackson, J.J. Arrington, T. Jones
WR - J. Horn, Michael Clayton, A. Lelie
TE - C. Cooley, B. Troupe
PK - M. Nugent
DST - Cinncinati, Detroit

I went with a strength of schedule defense by committee. Cincy and Detroit play the Bears and Browns a collective six times.

The TE position is not the strongest.

What are your thoughts?

We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1 TE, 1 PK, 1 DST
6 points for all TDs, no points for receptions, pretty standard scoring otherwise.

Forget the good parts of your draft. I'm going for the weaknesses.
I'm not sold on Joe Horn. That team is on the verge of total self destruction. See Donte Stallworth. Haslet may be asked to do something else for a living soon and they also may not play alot of home games.
I think your biggest weakness is QB. If hassleback gets broken you are screwed. McNair suffers from alzhiemers and is one scrambling hit away from retirement. He should be scrambling alot seeing as how I cant name a Titan reciever other than Bennent.
If Ramsey gets it together, Cooley is a great pick.As for your other one. Isnt Ben Troupe a back up tight end. Surely there is a starter still availible.
You team is not very deep in key positions. My advice would be to trade T. Jones for a solid back up QB before the struggling Bears stick Benson on the field simply because they are paying him a fortune. I would insure my backs by picking up M.Faulk. He's availible on most Wav Wires. I know he's on the porch rocking with McNair however you may only need him for a few weeks.

OK: Now you can go and slice up my crappy team. Its just a few threads up or down.

[offtopic]This thread definitely is fodder for "between the 20's".  As such, that is where it will be relocated.  Thank you for your understanding and future careful consideration of the organization we try to maintain on "the Gridiron" for you all. [smiley=bow.gif][/offtopic]

I"m not quite as gloom n doom as sk on your team, but he makes a very good point about trading TJones for a backup QB.   Now that Benson is signed, he'll surely be starting by week 4.

Your RBs are great.  Your receivers are pretty thin.  Lelie is on par with Stallworth IMO.   Every year people draft him thinking "this is hte year"  but it never is.  Horn is solid, but the Aints are concentrating on Deuce this year.  Clayton is on a run first team with a poor QB situation.

You QB is good, but you lack depth.

All in all, I agree with sk   [smiley=bow.gif]   that you need to trade a RB for QB depth and you need to find some help at WR.

Good Luck!

Nice team Lumber, I like you taste in runningbacks with Kevin Jones and Stephen Jackson.  If Arrington can cut down on his fumbles, he should be a great #3.  Thomas Jones however is probably only a good short-term guy; I'd be looking to trade him.

Your receivers are very good too, I think Horn will drop off a little, but he's still a solid #1 receiver.  Clayton and Lelie should improve on last year's numbers.

McNair was a smart pick, he seems to be going incredibly late in drafts this year, I think he will exceed expectations.

I don't know about Cooley, but then again after the top 5 TEs it's a gamble anyway.  If Troupe can shake off his constant injuries he should be pretty good.

Interesting defensive team choices.  Cincinnati does have a great secondary, and drafted some good young linebackers, so you could be onto something there.
