Title: Drafting on-line tonight... help if your here
Post by DB on Aug 30th, 2005, 8:04pm
12 man league drafting as I type.  4 keeper with a developmental spot.

Took Deuce Mc at 1.6 (Traded 1.4 to move up 2 spots in 4th because I couldn't deciden b/w Edge, Deuce, Preist, Willis.)

Took Chad Johnson at 2.9.  Coming around to my pick at 3.4 with Rudi, Lamont, Westbrook, Holt, Andre Johnson, Hines on the board.  What do you think? ?.?.?

Definitely Rudi Johnson if you can get him.  If you can't then Lamont Jordan (since you already have Chad Johnson)

You traded down two spots in the 1st round to move up two spots in the 4th???  Did I read that right?

Yes and I know it sounds (and is) stupid, but I could not get any better offers.  The thing is I wanted to pass on Preist, which is who he took at 4, so I was between Deuce, Willis and Edge and I had them ranked in that order.  As it turns out, Edge went at 5, so I was still left with the choice b/w Deuce and Willis.  I had Deuce and Willis ahead of Edge anyway, so I got something (2 picks up in the 4th) for nothing.  Or you could say I got nothing for nothing.  Very minor deal.

Anyway, thanks for the help.  I am picking soon.  I dont think Rudi will be there b/c there are a couple picks ahead of me.  Also Deuce and Chad have the same bye week as him.  I will take Jordan if he is available, then maybe Holt.  If I take Holt, however, I will be weak at RB, so WB is on my mind too.

In order, I like...

1a) Dunn
1b) Taylor (it's just so hard to think one would really consider taking Dunn over Taylor,... but, alas, I would... by a smidgeon.)
2) Smith

(gap)

3) Coles

(gap)

4) Muhammad

By the way, I am guessing this is the league with Erez (the "stand-in" best man ::)). ;) Are you getting any of these guys over here?  Only THREE member #'s in the top 500 left!!!  Hell, you guys should have a board over here in our "Gridiron Leagues" section.  They got a friend of a friend running a fantasy football site.  If "the man" (i.e. whatever site you guys are conducting your draft at) can be supported, surely the friend of a friend should get some love... [smiley=zenmaster.gif] (even just as a 30-second favor (which would probably turn into more since these guys are obviously fellow fantasy footballers and would probably find "the Gridiron" a useful resource and engaging community)).  It seems like tonight would be the night to make the hard pitch.  ...  In any event, being a top-500 member could have its privileges someday. Regarding the choice you posed to me, DB,... I'd go with Taylor.  He's healthy.  Benson's holdout will hold him up, perhaps from being "fantasy effective" until Week 5.

Actually it is going...

My team so far  :-/.

QB:  Collins & Palmer
RB:   Deuce McCallister, Westbrook, D. Foster, Medwelde
WR:  Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Muhsin

There are 15 rounds.  Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1K, 1D.

What do you think?  The top "rated" D's are gone including the Bills.  The top "rated" TE's are gone too.  RBs like Suggs, Drougns are around as are WRs like Bruce, McCareins, Moulds, Kennison  :-/ are around too.

Grab Stephen Davis if he is still there, he is evidently considered the starter over DeShaun Foster.

McCareins would be a good pick after that.

Don't worry about defense, you should be able to pick up a pretty good underrated one like the Jets, Bengals, Colts or Bears, imo.

Good point, however, I read that Foster said that Davis is the starter, which means he was just being respectful to the old man.  But it may be a good idea anyway.

I based my Deuce pick in part on your advice JYJ, so I am expecting big things.

Also, the Bus is available but Fast Willie is not.

Already having Foster, I would take Davis by a nose ahead of Bettis.  As per your message to me, though, I would take Suggs over either of them if he is still available and Taylor and Braylon, flip a coin, should be on the plate soon.

Well, at least you weren't a knucklehead like me in a few drafts selecting him at #2.  Getting him at #6 is definitely about right.

Y'know, Suggs is a decent back when he is healthy, but that rarely seems to be the case (it appears he is going to miss his 3rd consecutive opening day), and now Cleveland is talking about throwing Droughns and William Green out there.  But the bottom line is, with the shape of the Cleveland offense, and a looming runningback by committee situation, why mess with it ?  Whomever the Browns choose to start week to week will likely be a guessing game, and even if you guess right you probably don't end up with the points of Stephen Davis/Deshaun Foster.

So here is my team

QB:  Collins & Palmer
RB:   Deuce McCallister, Westbrook, D. Foster, Medwelde Moore, Lee Suggs
WR:  Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Muhsin, Travis Taylor
TE:  Dallas Clark
K:  Janikowski

I think my team is slightly above-average.  The end of the draft was better from me (taking Clark, the defenses and Janikowski in the last four rounds) than the beginning (I think I reached for Collins in the 5th and Palmer in the 7th).   ::)

DB, you took Lee Suxs  [smiley=donut.gif] over Stephen Davis ?  Hope that works out.

I am happy to report that this team is 5-0  :o and the only undefeated team (in fact, there are not even any 4-1 teams).

Looking back, JYJ was absolutely correct in saying I should have taken Davis over Suggs.  Man, I wish I had that one back.

I also wish I just taken Edge with 1.4 as the McAllister injury is going to really hurt.  Unforseeable.

This is going to be a tough week without Deuce, Westbrook on a bye and Foster hurt.  I got lucky with Meweldge Moore who will have to start for my now without Deuce.  I had to pick up Tyson Thompson to start this week.   :P
