Title: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by StegRock on Jan 2nd, 2006, 5:52pm Is it order out of order or order out of order? [smiley=zenmaster.gif] ... ;) Whatever it is, all I know is a coin flip was involved! [smiley=twocents.gif] It was between the beatniks [smiley=beatnik.gif] of San Fran and their "bizarro world" counterparts from the proverbial "other side" of the bay, the roughnecks [smiley=headbanger.gif] of Oakland (gee, I wonder who won that "battle"). From "The REAL Feed": Raiders win coin flip over 49ers in draft sweepstakes (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/wires/01/02/2020.ap.fbn.draft.order.0302/index.html) SI.com: NFL (02.01.2006 16:12) [smiley=borg.gif] By the way, this is the thread on which I'd like you all to keep your early-on '06 draft talk. While things remain very unclear in the early going, we do not need to start a new '06 draft-related thread for every little rumor that seeps out. When the facts of the matters become more lucid and substantive, of course, threads may be started with respect to particular prospects and the possibilities of where they'll land. Until that time, though, let's stick with and build up this thread. |

The bottom line is, if they could return the favor commensurately, I would GLADLY add them along with JunkyardJake.com to our "Featured Associates" with a link there at the top of EVERY PAGE of "the Gridiron" and elsewhere like I do for JYJ. That way we could both (all, including JYJ) grow from each other's success (as you might remember, Jeff, from our conversations of long ago, it is the LARGE "network" thing that I am ultimately striving for). Could there not be something facilitated here? [smiley=shrug.gif] It seems like a no-brainer...[/offtopic] |

Ernie Sims, LB/SS, Florida St - Reminds many of Derrick Brooks (without the "good guy" image). Has said he's declaring unless the NFL Advisory Committee gives him a bad grade. Moe Thompson, DE, Grambling via South Carolina - A big fast DE who has had some legal problems. Sat out this past year after enrolling at Grambling subsequent to Spurrier kicking him off the Gamecock squad. I talked to him this past fall prior to his trial (in an exclusive interview) and he insists that his arrest was the result of a prank amongst teammates gone bad. He's very personable and has a fantastic support team led by his mother (who I also talked to for a couple hours one night). After seeing guys like Marcus Pollard, Gonzo, and Gates make it, a number of marginal NBA prospects are going to try to make it as an NFL tight end. I don't know a thing about this UConn kid, as he has just recently thrown his hat into the ring and hasn't even worked out for NFL scouts yet. But he does have the benefit of Linta as an agent (Linta having access to NFL head coaches that he represents). If he's a legit 6'8", then that works against him as an in-line blocker. He's already crossed off the lists of NFL teams looking for a blocking TE. For teams using their TEs extensively in the passing game, he could be an option if he works out well and shows some good football instincts for the scouts. Last year there were about 8-10 basketball players trying to get a shot at the NFL. One was touted as the "next Antonio Gates" (a player from Pitt whose name escapes me). Only one of those players even made an NFL practice squad (Wesley Duke? - Broncos) and is now learning in NFLEL. This year, the guy whose name I keep hearing is Jai Lewis from George Mason (yep, the final four GMU squad). Lewis is a 6'6" 270# and passes the NFL eyeball test. NFL scouts have been impressed with him at workouts and it's possible that someone will take a shot on him late in the draft or as a PFA following the draft. Any of these guys are marginal NFL prospects at best. There are guys who have been honing their skills at the position for 4+ years in college who are safer picks, although they may lack the athleticism of a BB player. |

He admitted (at the Combine) that he weighed 252 for the Rose Bowl (where he was still very effective). He couldn't even commit himself in the classroom at USC - where he was repeatedly close to becoming academically ineligible. But teams want to know that the player they are giving millions of dollars to is going to be motivated to work his tail off for the team. Teams don't see that in LenDale White. Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by StegRock on Apr 22nd, 2006, 3:09pm Pessimistic view of sorts of the Draft... Currently atop "The REAL Feed": NFL draft is guessing game at best (http://www.fresnobee.com/24hour/sports/football/nfl/story/3268140p-12062616c.html) Fresno Bee: Football (22.04.2006 14:12) (AP) - When Keyshawn Johnson was taken by the New York Jets with the first pick in the 1996 NFL draft, it was assumed he would be a superstar. ... I must admit that I find the NFL Draft to be more hype than anything. It's a time of hope for fans of all teams. It's also a time of hope in the sense of its being about the youngsters [smiley=newbie.gif] who are going to be given an opportunity to try their hand at this NFL game and bring new lifeblood to it. It's a day when things get flipped around and, by and large, the bad teams get to be in the spotlight while the good teams on the field take the backseat. It's also yet another fun event to take a shot with your friends on predicting. But, at the end of the day, who the hell knows what it all means? It probably has more "meaning" in a fantasy light, i.e., it's probably easier to discern how well-positioned for success on the fantasy gridiron a player is (at least in the early going) given the team he was selected by than what kind or level of "real-world" impact he will have on his team (in the immediacy or long-run). As such, the growth of fantasy football is what I believe has fueled the growth in popularity of the NFL Draft, an event that's really just about a handful of big names and the glory of the day itself. Beyond that, by and large, from an "NFL" perspective, it's really more detailing than anything else, and, even at that, much of this detail work won't even last... or even be noticed. :-/ |

They've had a history of reaching in the 1st round. Packers are shopping Javon Walker so it's conceivable that they could take Davis. However I still think Hawk is their guy. |

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by StegRock on Apr 29th, 2006, 3:21pm Hey, guys... I just woke up (here in Hawaii) a little bit ago. I've only caught the Viking's, Cowboy's and Charger's picks. Anyway, I saw who my [smiley=smitten.gif] Donkeys [smiley=broncofan.gif] took, Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler. From the relatively little attention I've paid to things (mainly just headlines on "The REAL Feed" and a comment here and there the few times I've flicked ESPN on over the past couple months), I've gathered that the reviews are mixed. Early on, it seemed like he was being hyped up big-time; later on, it seemed like opinion on him cooled way down. What is you all's take on him and why Denver moved up, no less, to get him? As a Denver fan, I don't really get it. [smiley=shrug.gif] Also, secondary ponderings... What happens to Deuce McAllister now that Reggie is in town? How long does Kurt Warner remain the starter now that Matt Leinart is in town? (Added with edit: ) What about Corey Dillon with Maroney now in town? (Added with second edit: ) And, now, what about DeShaun Foster/Eric Shelton with the pick of Williams? And, a general question... Why are all the receivers and tailbacks falling? HELP me understand! [smiley=bullseye.gif] I think you might be right about that Steg, Addai was pretty unheralded for the all the blabbering we heard about Bush, Williams, White and Maroney, but he is a very solid player. Philly actually had the Colts taking him in the 1st round (nice job dude!). [smiley=cheerleader.gif] Addai may be faster, in terms of straight-line speed, than Reggie Bush, he has decent size, blocks well, and is an asset in the passing game. Of course 'stright-line speed', and whatever kind of speed you call what Reggie Bush can do after he gets the ball are entirely two different things, but the big plus for Addai, is that he shouldn't have any problem becoming the new Colts starter, and as you are suggesting, that is HUGE. on 04/29/06 at 15:21:17, StegRock wrote:
Of course, just because Bush ended up in a very crappy situation, like KillerKing has alluded to, Reggie Bush might have been the first wide receiver taken in the draft this year. Arguably, he just became the Saints best receiver, and regardless of what happens with McAllister, he should have a strong contribution fantasy-wise, just not anything that matches all the mind-numbing hype I think we've heard for 5 months now. How long does Kurt Warner remain the starter now that Matt Leinart is in town? I am going to guess not very long, in fact there is no reason why Leinart can't beat out Warner by August. What about Corey Dillon with Maroney now in town? Dillon has been so injury-prone the last few seasons, this was a great move for the Patriots (although not as good as stealing Chad Jackson in the 2nd round). I think Maroney gets really involved as early as this season and is a terrific keeper. And, now, what about DeShaun Foster/Eric Shelton with the pick of Williams? I hate the D'Angelo Williams pick for the Panthers, I had hoped that they take a chance on LenDale White. Of course DeShaun Foster is great when he plays, but can only manage to stay healthy for around 5 and half games each season, so Williams might be decent fantasy-wise. Eric Shelton just became the 5th string RB for the Panthers, behind Foster, Williams, Goings and Hoover. Shelton is too lumbering and slow to fill the role of feature RB, he's really a fullback. (Maybe the new Mike Alstott?) As far as the Broncos taking Cutler, I really don't get that either, I guess Shanahan was the only guy that wasn't impressed that Plummer finally impersonated a real NFL QB last year. They really should have drafted a damn pass-rushing lineman. Kamerion Wimbley, who went two spots later, would have been a more useful pick for them. [smiley=twocents.gif] |

I agree about the pick. I too hate it. BUT, it is WAY TOO early to characterize Shelton thusly. I think the Williams selection threatens Foster more than Shelton, especially in light of Foster's history of injuries. I don't think their roster of running backs can be lined up linearly the way you do. I still think that the Panthers would like Shelton to become the next Davis and, then, either Foster or Williams fulfilling that complementary role. They've had A LOT of success with that model. I know there are questions surrounding him, but all I know is that his preseason numbers last year were not the horror show I expected them to be given what I was hearing. Well, its status-quo to say that Leinart will take over whenever Warner goes down w/ injury - but, how can you predict injury? and when?........... Great pick - should spell Dillon some and while adding bulk, eventually take over in some time (year or 2). But FF'ers, New England isn't a Fantasy haven and moreso a team concept so, think that one over. Quote:
Can't have enough RBs in Carolina - thats for sure. Propensity of DeAngelo's injuries though, coupled w/ Caro's history of injured RBs, makes for a dismal projection here. However, if De-Williams can stay healthy, He'll be a star in the Panther's scheme. Quote:

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by BarnabyWilde on May 1st, 2006, 3:28pm Norm Chow has nothing to do with it. Both Fisher and Chow wanted Leinart. The ownership wanted Young. You can see who won that battle. Billy Volek will start this year for Tennessee, and maybe next year too. Young is nowhere ready to be a starting QB in the NFL. He needs to learn how to read reads and check off and pick up where the blitz is coming from....and a whole lot of other stuff, including how to take snaps under center (he used the shotgun 99% of the time at Texas. |

Thinking that Norm Chow had absolutly nothing to do with this decision is somewhat of a gullable perception IMO. Hes the OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR and one that had hands down experience with Lienart. This means he had a LOT of input as to the potential of Leinart. The Ownership/GM of Tenn. isn't so BLIND (another gullable perveption IMO) that they wouldn't at LEAST take in the information that Chow had to offer. And not only listen to it BUT ALSO put emphasis on it in conjunction to their decision-making as to which QB they would go with. This is exactly WHY this pick of Young over Lienart is worth it's weight in gold AND speaks volumes of the potential talent and quarterbacking skills of Vince Young. Fisher is a GREAT talent evaluator. For someone to think that he and his experienced o-coordinator has absolutely no weight within a draft pick decision - especially one that the OC has up close relations with - is ignoring the obvious. Every college QB needs to learn all that stuff you eluding to. Carson Palmer played in a Pro-Style Offense and still needed time to develop before he showcased his NFL skills. I am not sure of your point here? And as for Volek - Kerry Collins would be a great F.A. pick-up to start AHEAD of Volek. |

Read my second sentence. I said, Chow and Fisher wanted Leinart...badly!!!!!But Bud Adams and Co. wanted Young. It goes back to past year. Fisher wanted Pacman Jones, the ownership wanted someone else. Fisher won. Right now, that looks like a bad decision. The ownership did not want that to happen again. Thus, the Young pick, not Leinart. If you even watched or paid attention to the NFL network on the days leading up to the draft, you would have heard the announcers talking about how split the Titans were about which QB to pick. Chow and Fisher wanted Lineart in the worst way. Chow did have imput, but the ownership did not agree. As for learning the NFL game, some QBs (like Palmer and Leinart) are ahead of the curve because the play in a pro styled offense in college. If you think Young is more polished than Leinart right now, today, then maybe I gave you too much credit and you don't know as much about football as I think you do. As for Collins, that would be a good fit, I agree. But, I think Volek will do just fine too. I guess we'll have to wait and see. |

Fantasy-wise, unless you include major points for a return specialist then, early on, he won't be much of a FF star as his abilities will focus in that area. However, later on down the road, I can see this kid perhaps striking up a career much like Buffalo's former wideout (in Jim Kelly days and then later with the GB Pack) Don "BB" (full name is lost on my memory-sorry) as a productive smallish wideout - which by the way, as most everyone knows, the small WRs are getting the rock more often these days due to the NFL's 5 yard chuck rules. Thanks Barn-a-Bee!!!! I feel the same in regards to your character! Its so difficult to predict the future of these guys - no doubt! I happen to feel all 3 of the top QBs drafted will be successful. Vince vertainly has the "boom or bust" tag written all over him though. But with his talent in addition to his work ethic and if the same coaching staff stays at Tennessee, I believe Norm Chow will coach this guy up. Leinart is in the perfect situation. I like him a lot as well. I think Bidwell, long taunted as the NFL's basement of owners, is starting to turn the corner on that tag - as the addition of a great coach (Denny Green), and now the Edge, a dynamic offense in the making, and a defense that doesn't get it's due respect, should all start to pay off once that OLINE is shored up a bit. And for me, thats one KEY to Lienart's success as, he is a bit injury-prone and if he starts taking too many hits, he may not be on the field enough for us to grade him out. And Cutler, with his arm strength and the Mile High "air-lift" factor, should become dynamite!!!!!!!! throwing to Javon Walker - a missle in cleats, and now drafting Tight Ends as well, its a fantastic beginning to what I view a very productive career for the Donks. By the way, the Donks not drafting a RB, whats that say for the potentials of Ron Dayne this year? ;) To me, its a can't miss situation for all 3 passers. I do think its important for all 3 to sit and learn for a while though, before being thrown to the NFL defensive wolves. |

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by Philly on May 2nd, 2006, 1:49pm Hey guys... I spent all day Sunday at the draft (would've been there Saturday, but a good friend had a bachelor party scheduled). It was my first time at the draft (I was sitting between the ESPN platform and the stage). I thought it was a very interesting draft... I loved what the Eagles did. Waiting on Bunkley and Justice, and then moving to get Jean-Gilles! Wow! Bloom is going to be the Eagles return specialist. He's already becoming a fan favorite in Philly. Gocong is a guy I've talked to a couple times. Great athlete, smart player, great person. He's going to be moved to SAM, where I think he'll struggle a bit initially. Steg... Jay Cutler was my fave QB in this draft. I think he has the highest ceiling of the big three. Denver will be a perfect situation for him. They reached a bit for Scheffler, who will be good, but he wouldn't have been there in round 4 when they picked next. Kuper and Eslinger were tremendous picks on the second day. Hixon went too early, Dumervil will struggle in the NFL. Marshall could be a nice pick for the Broncos. Leinart did very well sliding to Arizona. He'll learn for a year under Warner and have some great weapons at his disposal once he gets in the game. Young is going to struggle big time. Volek will start, but I'll bet Young is getting PT before the season is half over. The team is going to struggle and Young isn't ready for the NFL yet. (Fisher and Chow wanted Leinart -- they feel he is the better immediate QB and gives them the best chance to win soon. But Fisher and Chow have to win to keep their jobs. Reese wanted Young and Bud Adams made the final decision. Adams is a Texas guy and loves Young's marketability and high ceiling--and is willing to risk the low floor.) Carolina had a great draft. Every one of their players could contribute this year. Cleveland could surprise - they did a great job in free agency and had a great draft too. San Fran had a great draft too. Davis and Lawson in round one are great, but they got some good picks in the later rounds too. Chicago, Washington, and Buffalo all struck out this draft. |

I don't fully believe this statement at all. Fisher is a great talent at HC. Now, if you asked me last year, I would have absolutely disagreed with this 1000%. But since seeing another HC, who I respect greatly, Herm Edwards, getting the "pinch" for what is transpiring w/ the NY Jetsons, I could see Fisher POSSIBLY getting fired or pushed out the door as well. But the fact is, FISHER himself may not want to coach in Tenn. anylonger - rather than, the other way around. Sometimes a change is good for both parties included. Vince Young has a very high ceiling and a very low floor. He had trouble learning a simplified Texas offense. He'll have to learn to take snaps under center (it's much easier to read and react when you're already set instead of in your drop). He'll have to learn to become a threat with his arm more than he did in college. 75% of his highlights were running plays! He also won't run away from NFL defenders the way he did in college. He is nowhere near as adept a runner as Michael Vick is, despite all the comparisons. He's also a turnover waiting to happen. Watch for a lot of fumbles! But if he is able to learn the offense and rely more on his arm, then he's got a huge upside. So that leaves Jay Cutler. He has the big arm and can make all the NFL throws (although he'll have to learn to put more touch on his short routes - which is easier to learn than to put heat on the long ones). He is tough as nails and won't get rattled when he gets hit or makes a mistake (and he'll make a lot of them). He's a risk-taker, which will lead to the aforementioned mistakes, but will also lead to plenty of rewards. He's mobile and can make throws on the run. I just see him having as high an upside as Young with less chance for failure. Leinart is going to be good, but I'm not convinced he'll be great (although he did land in the perfect situation). Quote:
Fisher has had a few disappointing seasons in a row in Tennessee now. I don't doubt his ability and think he's a great coach, but when a team doesn't win, someone has to be held accountable. Most times that is the coach. And the fact that he and his coaching staff are getting overruled by the front office on player personnel decisions has to grate on him a bit -- lending some credence to your postulation that Fisher could walk on his own. |

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by Philly on May 3rd, 2006, 1:59pm Just wanted to clarify my statement about Leinart above... When I say he has the lowest downside, I mean that he has the smallest chance at failure of the three. There's not a lot of upside or downside with Leinart in my opinion, which is fine, because he's already pretty high in the "up" department. Young has the biggest upside of the three, but also has the biggest downside - by a large margin. I also feel that Young, currently, is closer to his downside than his upside. Cutler has almost as high an upside as Young, but his downside isn't as low as Young's. |

[smiley=twothumbsup.gif] I guess I look at 1st rd QBs as a 50/50 chance of making it. And then, if they do make it - how good will they be? Which is pretty difficult to predict in and of itself. Looking back to last year, Alex Smith, Aaron Rogers and Justin Cambell, are all still up for those measurements. I didn't like any of those QBs last year though, Cambell and Rogers are sitting andlearning so, to me, they have a chance. Alex I am crossing off my list for now. But this year, I just feel that all 1st rd QB selctions, will do some damage in the NFL. As far as Vince Young goes, when I see him play, the game itself, justs looks like he is toying with everyone. It comes slow to him. Thats a huge factor in my determination of the success of a collegiate QB to the NFL ranks. There are many other factors as well - such as he single-handidly beat Ohio State which happened to have at least 5 first day draft selctions on defense taken this past weekend, Sure there will be some growing pains but, I just can't ignore this guys intangibles - which happens to be something that eludes the NFL experts when drafting and measuring the success rate of College QBs to the NFL. Anyhow, nice assessment of the 3 QBs and excepting for your near doom outlook on Vince, I agree with all you've said. Just think if Leinart would have come out of college last year - to the 49ers - not a pretty picture. Hes in a great situation in Arizona. |

RBs = Biggest name I can mention would be Maroney BUT, I am not willing to die on a hill for that and in fact, I DO like him although, I feel it would take some time for him to get going, that said, he is the Lienart of the RBs to me because, I feel he needs a suppporting cast to be really successful (that being an offensive line), and put that together with the fact that the Patsies don't like solo-heros on their team, thereby, no super stat-stacked individual players, ...........would be my reasoning, however, word to the wise of my league of super-queeros, that doesn't mean I won't draft him :D WRs= This whole WR class I am not impressed with however, that said, (did I say "that said again" - I like it! ) 1st rd receivers are huge bust factors, logic would then conclude that, since there was only ONE 1st rd wide out taken, there might be some decent NFL contirbutors in this class that fits team needs, [smiley=Imwithstupid.gif] TEs = i like this TE class so, T.J. Williams is the only guy I might sell out, though, Pope is on probation with me for now as well [smiley=twocents.gif] OL = Probation {J.Scott; J.Trueblood; R.O'Callaghan; K.Boothe; R.Cook} Keep in mind my analysis isn't nearly over of the mentioned prospects and even others I haven't mentioned, I fine tune my boards the most after the NFL draft for about a month. Therefore, they are ever-fluxuating until around the end of May. Enjoy :D |

I do want to add that, this draft is elite - and better than the elite 2004 one we had a couple years back. That in mind, I am finding increasingly difficult to find TOP shelf players that I don't like and project to the NFL as startering status, whether now, or later on down the road. My post in reply to this particular quote above, was me just digging, but in reality, I really really like what I see on top of this draft. This coupled with the fact that teams dropped players from high round status that had even the SLIGHTEST character concerns thereby, making their BUST potential, not as vital as previous years where the same caliber players, would have been drafted much higher. So, in summary, its difficult for me to go out on a limb for any of the top players to wiegh towards their failure rather than,..... their success. [smiley=popcorn.gif] |

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by StegRock on May 7th, 2006, 3:32pm Well, then, anybody else, please??? To me, this is where the real cash-value is... because it takes some serious "critical" (in both senses of the word) thinking and challenging of one's own (perhaps sugar-coated) ideas and biases, a process which I think produces better insights. I know from a fantasy perspective, on offense at least, there is almost NOBODY that I like in the early going, i.e. for '06. The only one I really like for fantasy is RB Joseph Addai. Furthermore, the only quarterback I like to make it is Matt Leinart. I mean just the numbers over the years tell us that only a handful of these big-name guys will make it, no less big-time, no less big-time on the fantasy gridiron. [smiley=shrug.gif] |

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by KillerKingSting on May 7th, 2006, 6:53pm I can see where you would find value in the "critical" thinking aspects of your insight - playing devil's advocate does have value. But in this draft - at least to me - and NO - not sugar coating anything here - sorry but - last year's draft - SURE - 04's draft - absolutely! But my fondness for THIS draft isn't sugar coated (biased? well thats all a matter of perpsective and WE ALL have that - right?), and i STRONGLY feel that a lot of the players and where they fell, did so in the righteous placemental NFL rosteroid. Also, I did mention my concerns regarding Maroney. However, you did bring up a different twist to maul over - that being value RIGHT NOW - in 06. Its a given that not many rookies are going to make a huge impact in their first season - so leading with THAT particular emphasis (by the way, I am a lil bit lost here as saying most rookies won't make an immediate impact isn't exactly going out on a limb as you originally requested) I disagree with you in Addai. It'll be a RBBC over there in Indy AND if you run Addai into the ground too much by asking him to handle a load then, you open up his injury-prone history for potentials. He can't handle a load right now (in 06) and will be/should be used carefully and cautiously. Furthermore, what makes anyone think that the Donks can develop Cutler? They haven't been able to develop a QB in AGES. And Cutler comes w/ some hype - in fact, plenty of it. He needs work and experience and better technique. I don't recall anyone on the Donk's roster, and that includes Jay Plummer, that could actually provide those solid attributes, whether it be via a teacher/coach and/or a player and their talents. I am not saying that he won't eventually make it but, if I am too play the pesimist then, THATS the QB that won't make it. And again, just hanging this out there for WHATEVER its worth to those of you who are SKEPTICAL of this class of rooks, given DeAngelo's history on injury, and adding that to Carolina's history of injury-riddled RBs, confuscious say that, is a recipe for potential disasteroids! Then again, can history REALLY repeat itself so many times there over? Odds would be that DeAngelo would be safe if your not too superstitious. For more pesimistic viewings, heed the Juniors of the draft. They have to be DEVELOPED first and they are already a year behind the seniors. (Junior warnings : Vince Young, Mario Williams, Maroney, LenDale and plenty more!). Of course you could also take into account the Matt Millens of this world and who they drafted - and put those players on a gurney (Ernie Sims-OLB - another injury waiting to happen?), The Minnesota's of the world (though not entirely fair since, a new regime is in place), in Chad Greenway (poor combine numbers and though his pro-day was mush better, remember that, when working out at your own school and or within another more comfortable atmosphere, it is that much more comfortable for those players to be more successful in their athletic prowless, ...........................I mean, who wants a player that can't perform on command and do it anywhere at that?). By the way, Bush is another reason why FF leagues should include return specialist stats - th most exciting player to come out of college in years, and some of his most exciting plays will be on special teams, its a shame not to be able to enjoy that via your fantasy league. |

I'd rank the RBs like this: 1. Addai 2. Bush 3. Williams 4. White 5. Maroney the QB's: 1. Leinart 2. Young 3. Cutler the WR's/TEs 1. Moss 2. Davis 3. Jackson 4. Holmes |

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by StegRock on May 8th, 2006, 3:50am Nice list, Jim! At a glance, I disagree with Maroney listed all the way back at #5. It seems like he should be bumped up a spot or two. I also don't think I agree with Moss at #1 and Davis a tight-end at #2 among receivers. I think I would definitely put the other two above them both... BUT, what do I know? [smiley=stilldunno.gif] ... [smiley=dunce.gif] ... Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by bakes781 on May 8th, 2006, 11:10am I think Reggie Bush will make an immediate impact in New Orleans. Given Duece McAllister's health concerns I can easily see Bush getting 10-15 carries a game. Further more they've reportedly been shopping Stallworth & haven't been able to find a WR to compliment Horn. Bush could take on that role at least on 3rd downs. |

Title: Re: '06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread Post by bakes781 on May 9th, 2006, 11:28am Well I could pick any WR because they usually need a year to learn the offense & develop a repoire with the QB anyway. But if I was to single out 1 WR to struggle early it would be Sinorice Moss. He has a young QB who is still learning on the job himself. Plus the Giants are a run 1st offense with Tiki. Not to mention the added pressure of living up to his older brother Santana within the same division. DeAngelo Williams seems like a real hit or miss prospect. After losing Stephen Davis, I thought LenDale White would have made a better fit for the Panthers. Williams has a lot of mileage already & he's had a history of injuries. At QB I think it's clear that Vince Young has the biggest risk/reward tag of anybody. It's pretty safe to assume that McNair won't be in Tennessee to mentor the rookie. So it's likely that Vince will get thrown to the wolves sooner rather than later. This is where that poor wonderlic score could play a determining factor in whether he can learn on the job or not. |

"He looks like Mighty Mouse." Henning said Williams was the running back the Panthers most wanted in the draft. He said team officials favored him over Minnesota's Lawrence Maroney, who was chosen by New England six spots before Carolina picked, and Southern California's Lendale White, a second-round pick by Tennessee. "This was the guy we were after," Henning said. "We have an unusual individual here in DeAngelo because he's the fourth-leading rusher in the history of the NCAA. Now, you've got to do a lot of running (to do that). "He's a bright-eyed guy. He's got flash and quickness." Henning said general manager Marty Hurney was "adamant" that the Panthers draft a running back to pair with Deshaun Foster, who has dazzled at times but has had injury problems. "We all love Deshaun Foster, but Deshaun Foster has not been able to fulfill a whole year for us," said Henning. On Eric Shelton: As for Eric Shelton, the Panthers' 2005 second-round pick who spent his rookie season on injured reserve, Henning said the team still hopes he can fit into the rotation as a short-yardage, goal-line back. He said Shelton also could be used to pound the ball at the defense at the end of games. So, as of now, it sure looks like the rookie Williams will be the backup to DeShaun Foster, making him a potentially huge fantasy value. As for Eric Shelton, forget about him (although he is starting to sound more Alstott-esque in the context of the early Panther plans, is he not?) |

That said, that article you cite, JYJ, from a LOCAL source covering the team, isn't encouraging (to Shelton owners) and is duly noted (Trust me...
