What I think about my pick of Steven Jackson at 7 is that Linehan is going to run the ball a heck of a lot more than Martz did.  But that's not exactly earth-shattering news.  ;D

My pick was a toss up between s-Jax and Rudi. I think Rudi will have a great year, especially with Palmer not 100% to begin the season. Jackson will be solid as well.

That's what is great about mock debates...everyone has their own opinion. No way I take Caddy over Rudi or Jackson though, or even Edge...but that's just me!

Great to see a new person jumping right in and getting his feet wet! Welcome Game_Time!

Yes.... welcome Game Time. Wow a Cardinal in the top 10!!! Times they are a changing. I believe we may see 3 Cardinals in the top 25!! Look for the next rebirth of Aikman-Smith-Irvin / Warner-Faulk-Holt / Manning-James-Harrison / Warner-James-Fitz/Boldin  ;)

I took Chad Johnson at 11 instead of another RB because it's rankings and not team building.  I'm gambling that Palmer will be just fine and that Johnson will have another great season, without so much showboating (at least by a little  ;D).

With the absense of R. Williams, the addition of D. Culpepper and a full off season to "get" the offense, I think Brown is going to have a big year.

Sounds like golfport is looking for Rhodes to know the system  better than Addai in an O heavy system and in the post-James era.  The problem is a possible RBBC . If Rhodes stays healthy, he could be a very interesting risk/reward pick.

Hello all, my co-worker Kenny Mesecher has introduced me to this site, I look forward to talking football with everyone and getting to know people.

Thought I would jump in here and pick at #24.  This took some thinking, as if this was a #12 team league and I had pick #1, I'd be picking back to back at #24 & #25.  I'd usually go RB with my #2, but with the WR's left, guess I felt I couldn't pass this up.  I went with Moss though Boldin was my other option (guess I'd take him at #25 if this was my team, I'd be jumping for joy having Alexander, Moss, Boldin)  I'd be targeting a RB for sure at #48.

Welcome Larson89!

Like my pick of C. Johnson, my pick of A. Gates at 25 could be a bit of a gamble due to the QB.  I'm guessing that Rivers will be depending on Gates a lot, and I think he'll have a great season.

I think you are right about that, let's hope he drops that low in our real drafts.

Also, 2006 could be the last year to get Kevin Jones in the 3rd round.

With the reaches (IMO) I have seen so far .... Rhodes @ #15 / Westbrook @ #18 / D. Davis @ #20.

Palmer would be an absolute steal for a 3rd round pick at #31, even if he misses 1-3 games.  (Hopefully not any).

Last year I picked him up in the 6th to 7th rounds in 4 out of my 6 leagues last year, everyone I had him in I was in contention for the leagues best record, my experience with him, I have to roll the dice.

Think Andre Johnson will actually show up this year ?  I have a good feeling about him, certainly if he does show up, he will be like getting a 2nd round receiver in the 5th round.

Really Oakland ?  I wouldn't touch Green personally before like the 8-9th round.  For one thing, a 34 year old Eddie Kennison, a 30 year old Gonzalez, and an inconsistent Samie Parker is not a great corps of receivers.  Plus, they are very content w/ running the ball.

Maybe Herm Edwards game plan calls for opening up the passing game in KC, but I'd be skeptical of that, since he did not have a positive effect on the NY Jets passing game, that's for sure.

Better than Culpepper ?  Even given the diaster of last year, No way.

Better than Bulger ?  Arguable, since QBs tend to be fairly equivalent in the 2nd and 3rd tiers.  But consider that Bulger threw for almost as many TDs as Green, in half the games played last year.  Plus he has much better receivers than Green has.

Better than Plummer ?  Maybe, but even that's a close call.  [smiley=flagged.gif]

Well yes JYJ it is arguable.  But when has Trent EVER had any good WR's.  He is probably the most consistant QB you can have in fantasy football.  You may have a point with Culpepper, but Plummer and Bulger can't even compare with the numbers Trent puts up every year.

T. Green is the king of consistant quarterbacks.  So me personally, hope that most think like you jake and I can snatch him up in the 9th =)

I'll defend you O4L.

Trent Green has thrown for 4,000 yards each of the last 3 years, and I am willing to wager he does it again this year. He is the model of consistency and I'g gladly take him pver the likes of Plummer, Delhomme and QBs along those lines.

I agree Plummer is very undependable, you can never tell what you will get out of him.   Bulger however, outside of his injury-shortened season last year, was every bit as consistent as Trent Green for his 2 years as a starter in 2003 and 2004.

Both QBs have to deal with coaching changes this year, so it's anyones guess what will happen.

Trent Green vs. Culpepper on the other hand, no contest.   I can't see how you can pick Trent Green before Culpepper, almost under any scoring format.

In any event, Trent Green looks like he is going after Culpepper, Bulger and Plummer in early drafts:

http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2006/draft_analysis?COUNT=100&POS=QB&CUTOFF=10&DRAFT_TYPE=NONKEEPER&TIME=

So you probably shouldn't waste too high a pick on him.

I agree with you guys that Trent Green is a very consistent NFL QB, but as a fantasy QB, 17 TDs is not going to help you establish a dominant fantasy team.

So, the first question is, dropping from 27 TDs in 2004 to 17 TDs in 2005 is what you guys perceive as consistency ?

The second issue is, given that:

1) the Chiefs are now coached by Herm 'Head up my ass' Edwards, and

2) the team has not made improvements to their receiver roster for this season..

What reason is there to believe that Trent Green improves from his 17 passing TDs in 2005 ?

I kind of think he might, but it's not a certainty.

Well, 17 TD's is not bad at all IMO.  In most the leagues I have ever played in its the QB's yards per game that makes the difference.

If you can count on 1 TD and 250 yds. every single game for the whole season for the last 3 years from your QB I'd say that is pretty consistant fantasy wise  [smiley=shrug.gif]

With uncertainty at the RB position (is JJ the true starter? does Tuna like Barber better?) and some real nice weapons on the edges, Bledsoe is great value here.  The O-line should be a little better this year too with the off-season acquisitions.

OK... I went ahead and made the first defensive pick.  I kind of figured it was time.

Whaddya think?  Too early/late?  Right/wrong team?  (It was a toss-up with the Bears, but I like the Panthers as an overall team better, so I went with them.)

No Philly... just right. I toyed with the idea of picking the Panthers at 91. I think you are right on with this. The only other top 100 "D" in my opinion is the Bears followed by the Steelers

Ok, looks like I did the ultimate sin, picking a KICKER!!!! :-/  Hey it's the #94 pick, 3rd to the last pick in what would be the 8th round.

If this was my draft card, it would be about time, especially if Rackers was available at #94.

My thinking:
Rd 1 - RB
Rd 2 - RB
Rd 3 - WR
Rd 4 - QB
Rd 5 - WR or TE
Rd 6 - TE or WR
Rd 7 - RB
Rd 8 - What the hell!!!!  Kicker, if Rackers is there!!!

I usually play sportsline.com where you start 1qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, 1 te, 1 k, 1 d...... So I figured it would be about time?????  Yes, No,.... Am I crazy, I don't think so???

Taking Aaron Brooks at 95 isn't just Homer-ism.  Randy Moss can catch anything, Ron Curry is healthy, Porter has an ego that might just make him show up, and the Raiders are looking to do more with TE's ( [smiley=scared.gif] ).  Also, they've got Jordan.

Walter is a good fit for the Raiders, and he may be ready.  Or not.  In any case, I believe he will be eventually.  For now, it's Brooks and the Raiders' healthy Air Force.

Ok, looks like I need the ultimate sin, picking a KICKER!!!! :-/  Hey it's the #94 pick, 3rd to the last pick in what would be the 8th round.

If this was my draft card, it would be about time, especially if Rackers was available at #94.

My thinking:
Rd 1 - RB
Rd 2 - RB
Rd 3 - WR
Rd 4 - QB
Rd 5 - WR or TE
Rd 6 - TE or WR
Rd 7 - RB
Rd 8 - What the hell!!!!  Kicker, if Rackers is there!!!

REMEMBER (I end up having to go down this road once every year, a bit frustrating [smiley=frustrated.gif] when it's explained in the write-up on the picks thread and, in any event, implicit in the title "Huddle Rankings/Mock Draft")... we are working together on making a "Top 100/200/???" RANKINGS list here.  We are not working against each other.  You are NOT supposed to be drafting with a "draft card" in mind.  You are supposed to just pick the next most valuable player available (regardless of position).  There are no teamS here, just one TEAM, "the Gridiron" team!  I apologize if this wasn't clear from the get-go.  I hope it is now.  With that said,... keep pluggin' [smiley=plug.gif] away, guys and gals...

No biggie, Larsen...  I REALLY appreciate your "attitude", though,... or should I say, "lack of 'attitude'".  You really are the kind of chap I want "the Gridiron" filled with!!! [smiley=bow.gif]

Anyway, the master list in initial post of this thread has been updated through pick #98!

Rounded out the TOP 100 with Michael Clayton. There are several guys left out there that could have fit in the top 100 but thought he had tons of upside. Samkon Gado was my next thought. Terry Glenn came to mind as did David Carr. I would like to see a sleeper poll at some point as well, this was fun!

If yardage counts more than TDs in your scoring system, then I can see why Trent Green is your man.  What is your scoring system ?  Usually yardage and TDs turn out to be valued around equally, like for example yards*.05
plus TDs * 4.

Now Callie, we hope you don't go nutty over Aaron Brooks like you did Kerry Collins last year.  I recall you talking about taking Collins in the 2nd, 3rd round or some crazy shizitz like that.  :)

Actually, you are probably correct on Brooks being a big improvement, but amazingly enough, Brooks might be draftable at around 120 this year.

;D

Edit - So I'm here doing my workout, and you got me curious.  So I looked it up!

I didn't see who took Colllins, but he went in the 5th round in all the '05 mocks.   [smiley=huddle.gif]  (Assuming something like a 12 team league, I guess.  I don't remember how many of us there were!)

Sorry, Callie, I did a search, and it was not you that said that Kerry Collins was worth a 2nd-3rd pick.  (You actually valued him around the 6th best QB last year).

It was actually 'Nimzo' who said he was going to take Collins in the 3rd round last year.  I'm sure he regrets that if he followed through on it.  [smiley=beaver.gif]

Nice pick of Wilford, he was going to be my next selection the next time I made a pick.  I think he really was coming on last year toward the end of the year.  Now with the retirement of J. Smith, he should be able to get more balls tossed his way, for some reason I'm just not a big fan of Matt Jones?????  Reggie Williams I'm still waiting on, as is everyone else, can you say bust?????  Time will tell.

Larsen, I agree on Reggie Williams, he has been given more than ample opportunity to claim a role in that offense, and it is time to forget about him.   Really, it comes down to lack of speed for Williams, he just can't get open.

Wilford is more polished than Jones at the moment, but I think Matt Jones has more upside.  Certainly, for a keeper situation, Jones is the guy to grab this year, and see what happens.

Wasn't too sure about putting C. Bradford at 132. but Kitna has always favored his alternate WR's and Corey has Big play capabilities.

I guess I just always liked him with the Texans and think he will do GREAT with the Lions.

LOVE the pick at #136 by O4l of Koren Robinson.  If I had my thinking cap [smiley=dunce.gif] strapped tightly on, I would (should) have taken him at the picks I made at 101 or 107.  Robinson is a MAJOR upswing player this year.  He's a player worth making bold predictions about. [smiley=yes.gif] He should have gone 25 to 40 spots higher, I think!
