Thanks JYJ! I thought you might like the idea of a top 100 defensive player list. I think after this year Umenyiora will be the premiere defensive end in football. He is on the upside while Taylor and Strahan are winding down. Peppers is a close 2nd in my book. I guess we shall see! |

Title: Re: 1st Let's get defensive "Huddle" Rankings thre Post by Philly on Jul 17th, 2006, 10:24am Thanks for starting this BW. Sorry I jumped in late -- wasn't online at all on Sunday. Anyway, I wonder how many people are considering the scoring system??? Based on 2005 stats, all but 3 of the top 25 IDP scorers (based on PPG to account for injuries) were LBs. Those three were safeties Adrian Wilson and Gibril Wilson, and a still-available corner. The best defensive lineman was the 35th highest scorer (and is still available), while guys like Strahan (#46), Taylor (#48), and Umenyiora (#52) are already selected. |

I can't disagree with that, he certainly has shown steady improvement, and now is entering what should be his most productive years. In any event, what a terrific 2nd round pick by the Giants. |

That's a great point, typically DE's and especially DT's are not worth as much as LB's and Safties in a conventional scoring system. A conventional scoring system probably looks like: Tackle - 2 points Assist - 1 point Sack - 4 points INT - 4 points FumRec - 2-4 points TD - of course 6 Safety - whatever, as these are just fluke events Arguably, forced fumbles should be accounted for, that will bump some of the better DEs. |

Title: Re: 1st Let's get defensive "Huddle" Rankings thre Post by junkyardjake on Jul 17th, 2006, 1:07pm Hey Philly, I just noticed that Barnaby delineated the suggested scoring system on the other thread: Tackle Solo (2) Tackle Assist (0.5) Sack (5) Interception (5) Fumble Force (2) Fumble Recovery (2) Touchdown (6) Safety (2) Pass Defended (0) Block Kick (2) |
