This topic seems to kick up every year, and since I'm the one in a bit more of a dilemna this year, I'll be the one to start it.

The League: It's a 10 team league, and we each get 1 keeper. I know, why 1??? That decision was voted on and passed (I was in the minority). Each team has 1 keeper that serves as their 7th round pick. You can forego a keeper and pick anew at 7 if you like. We start QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, WR/TE, WR/RB, K, D/ST. I will draft 9th in a serpentine draft, so my picks: 9,12,29,32,49,52,69,72, etc.

ScoringPretty standard, but 1 pt/ rec, so that heightens the WR value if you can get a 90+ catch guy.

My Keeper ;D LJ baby! Took him in the 10th last year to backup Priest. Rode that monster all the way to the Superbowl too! But lost in the title game >:(

Having LJ as my #1, and getting him in the 7th, can I afford to veer from RB at the #9?? As has been eluded to in several threads here, it gets very muddy for RBs past the top 3 or 4. If you believe LJ is worth almost 2 RBs, can one afford to go, say Steve Smith at 9, then a Torry Holt/Marvin Harrison type at 12? If I project correctly, that'll leave the pickings pretty thin when I come around again at 29 and 32. I'll probably end up with a Deshaun Foster, Chester Taylor type as my 2nd RB, and my 3rd will be pretty low level back like Chris Brown, or a hopeful like Gore or Maroney.

What do you think? I could easily be talked into taking the best RB at 9, probably Jordan, Caddy, Ronnie Brown or Edge will be there at 9, then take whoever is left at WR with 12. I should be guaranteed one of 4 WRs, as I can't see more than Steve Smith going in the 1st round. Say he does, that leaves Owens, Holt, Moss, CJ and Harrison left for me at 9. 2 of those might go at 10 & 11 if last years Chump goes that way, but that leaves a pretty top flight WR at 12.

Any discussion/thoughts welcome!

As to the meat here,... there isn't any chance that Peyton Manning isN'T being protected, is there? That (corroborated by my pick in JYJ's league) would be my choice, I think (this is a 10-team league, so...). Otherwise,... NO,... based on your bead on things (and mine), I would NOT take a wide receiver, Steve Smith or otherwise, with that #9 pick. If Edge or Ronnie Brown, in that order (for me), are available, you take them, even Jordan or Caddy who you also mention. That's my take, at least. [smiley=threed.gif]

What kind of a keeper league is this. I think you named about every top RB and WR there is. Is nobody keeping any of these players?!?!?!? I think it would be easier for people to give advice if they knew who was on the table. I can't believe that none of those players are being kept.

Who are they keeping......Taco Wallace?!?!?!?

good point! I forgot one insane rule of the league regarding the keeper. You're keeper can only be kept for 1 year, and must have been taken after the 4th round of the previous year (or an FA pickup that wasn't drafted at all). So Javon Walker taken in the 3rd last year is NOT eligible to be a keeper even though he was dropped and could've been picked up as an FA. LJ, as I stated earlier, was taken in the 10th, and is eligible to be my keeper.

yeah, Taco Wallace really is a WR!!! lol

anyways, thanks for the update.... ;)

I kinda like the idea of taking somewhat of a chance with Chester Taylor as your 2nd RB and picking up Peyton Manning and Chad Johnson as your QB and WR respectively.

I actually like Chester Taylor to be a rather productive Fantasy back this year......we'll see though.....it IS minnesota!!

Looking at that list of keepers, it seems that all the other owners are going to be scrambling for RBs early since only one other owner kept a RB (and he's not even a great #1 option, unlike yours).

So this puts you in great shape to go for a Peyton Manning or a Steve Smith...

Since there will likely be a big run on RBs in the early goings, you might want to think about using either your #9 or #12 on a RB instead of a WR. With the #29 and #32 picks almost back to back, you should be able to grab a couple decent receivers (one who catches a lot of passes to get the point-per-catch bonus and another who is a yardage and/or TD guy).

I would agree with Jeff. I would go QB and RB with your first two picks which would give you a great #1 QB and #1 RB, as well as a solid #2 RB. With your next two picks you could pick two decent #2 WR's and have a great TEAM.

rb, rb,

especially ones who can catch. Maybe you get lucky with your first pick and snatch up a guy like Lamont Jordan, or Westbrook, the catches will add up quickly for big bonus points in your league, but if a stud wr is there that would be tempting, but you can get that guy on the turnaround.
