Clearly no surprise with the first 3 picks.   Those 3 could go in any order!!!

With #4 I know the trendy pick is to NOT take Clinton Portis.  However, word is that he should be back by the season start with his shoulder being ok.  There is no longer as much panic in the DC area.  Besides, he is too good with Saunders at the helm not to take.  (and besides, I just can't take Tiki for some unknown personal bias)

I don't like the Portis pick, Stevo, not at #4...  I don't care what the "current hype" is...  He's too risky and it's too early.  But,... hey,... that's what you think, and you are NOT a fantasy football ignoramus.  Let's press on kiddies... [smiley=dancin.gif]

Al Saunders did a lot with Holmes (and Johnson).  Aside from the injury, I think Portis is better than good here.  So far, everything we hear is that Portis will be good for Week 1.

I think the Portis was early as well.  There are some backs that will put up Portis numbers that didn't have a dislocated shoulder in the preseason.  Those things "can" be a problem forever.....much less an entire season.  It's tough to ignore that risk with that high of a pick.

I'm putting up S. Jackson at #6.  What can I say, I think he is going to be a Fantasy Football Stud this year.

I have no problem with the Portis pick. A separated shoulder is pretty low on the list of scary injuries. I remember Emmitt Smith separating his shoulder during a game against the Eagles earlyish in his career. He not only continued playing with the injury, he played very well, and there were no lingering effects from that injury (obviously).

As for my pick at #11... I don't know why everyone is so down on Jordan. He's a workhorse back who also catches the ball very well. He'll get lots of work in this offensive system and, with the receivers the Raiders have, the DBs can't cheat the box as much. I think he's primed for a very big season.

The Raiders have also made it very clear that they are going to pump up the running game this season.  And the O-line is going to improve and give him holes.

For every Emmitt Smith, there are probably at least a half dozen guys who, I think, would beg to differ.  As an Eagle's fan, I suppose Emmitt's injury there comes to mind first.  But, for me, I immediately think of Charles Rogers and Curtis Conway, two guys who (have) had their careers ruined by separated shoulders.  Ultimately, though, I'm not going to go that far.  Clinton Portis is still in my Top 12-15.  I'm just taking the middle road.  I'm not going to be "Emmitt Smith" optimistic nor "Curtis Conway/Charles Rogers" pessimistic.

WOW....you dropped what was clearly the #4 back before a minor injury all the way down to 12-15?  It is interesting that people vary so much on him.....  I STILL have him #4.

Alas, I remember people last year dropped Shaun Alexander on their lists.......they lived to regret that decision......

I think Portis has taken a tremendous hit (fantasy wise) with his injury.  I had him at #4 , I'm in the agreement that it is WAY to risky now for Portis at #4 overall,  I have him slid all the way down to 8th or 9th overall RB now.  :-/

I'm OK with Portis at #4.  But if I was picking #4, I might go with a Jordan or Jackson instead. If I had the #6 or #7 pick and Jordan/Jackson were gone, then I would not hesitate to grab Portis.  So he's slipped very slightly in my book, although it has as much to do with my love of Jackson and Jordan as anything else.

Antonio Gates already!  I love playing FF with people who draft a TE before the 4th or 5th round because they tend to screw up their entire drafts taking a TE so early.

Despite suffering a partially dislocated shoulder last weekend, Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis is still on most folks' fantasy football top 10 list. The topic of Portis' draft value has already been pondered countless times. However, what hasn't received a lot of attention is th...

I think Benson will be the starter (he was an early first rounder, and THAT does carry weight, especially with the front office) and he's a workhorse type of back - the type that fits the Bears to a tee. Teams with strong defenses excel when they have a ground control (clock-eating) offense. Thomas Jones is certainly capable (last year proved that) and can succeed in this offense, but he's not endearing himself to the right people and I think, ultimately, Lovie will be a one-back kinda guy as much as he can be.

What's up with some of you guys here?  What are yous afraid to show your cards here as draft times roll around?  Do only a couple of us have balls [smiley=dick.jpg] here???  I show my cards and whip ass... [smiley=bawling.gif][smiley=mywhippinboy.gif] Tony and Jeff are religiously participating...  That's the real deal... [smiley=yes.gif]

Jeff, is not saying Gates isn't any good.....He is saying that typically when owners draft a tight end that early, they tend to let the draft "get away from them" and  they draft a weaker team overall. (*DISCLAIMER* this is my opinion, anything I said doesn't actually represent what Jeff thinks) ;)

If you think (Gates) has a similar season to last year...it is a very good pick...if you think he will be like 100% of all other TE's then it was not so great a pick.

Last years #'s placed him probably in or near the top 10 receiving category: 1,101 yards and 10 TD's is very good for any receiver and great for a TE.

What Tack is saying is that Gates is not a typical TE, therefore the analogy does not hold true for this atypical TE.  Depending on how long he was going to have to wait for his next pick, probably a good pick.

Morency could be a good pick.  From what I have read and seen around the news is that Wali Lundy has already been named the starter should DD be unable to go.

Anyone else able to back this up?!?!?

Well, Steg had a good thought over in the Red Zone/Broncos Off-Season Report:

Or Staley, or whoever else.....

Edit:  Sorry, I should have added that Davis can't go on the PUP list, may go on IR, and the team now says he will not be cut.  So why not grab a good RB and cut someone else?

Quote:

Because they really have two GOOD backs in W. Lundi and V. Morency.  I picked up Lundi off the wire two weeks ago after I saw the performance he gave against Kansas City (perks of covering a team on the gridiron ;D )  Dominick isn't done for the season.  He may be out for 8-12 weeks or so, (pending the outcome of the surgery) but he is still a good back.

Lundi and Morency have showed that they BOTH can step up and make big plays. And, once Dominick gets healthy again, THEN they will use him as trade bait.

It makes no sense to cut him, they have invested a lot in Davis.  And the reason for not picking Reggie Bush goes a lot deeper than just needing a DE really really bad.  They have great running backs, and hello?? they now have Gary Kubiak, so why screw up a good thing by bringing in somebody else (like what they are doing in New York right now)

Just my 2 bits.

Master list in initial post of this thread has been updated through the "Top 100".  (Note:  We did have a mistake in the numbering.  The last pick posted by O4l was actually pick 101.)  I'm guessing we're done with this...  It was getting late in the "offseason"...  I think a "Top 100" is all we had in us this time around...  Anyway, enjoy this extra rankings tool!!!
