Title: 2nd Half Fantasy League...starts in week 9 Post by Frankie_Ray on Oct 18th, 2006, 9:45pm Greetings fellow Gridiron fans, I believe that I am posting in the right place, and that I am following the guidelines correctly for posting this...(If I'm wrong, please remove the post but dont ban me...Im loving this site and am easily teachable!) My league is having a 2nd Half tournament that begins in week #9 and the way the format is set up (Tournament style), the playoffs run right up through the actual Super Bowl. The best part is that with our format there are unlimited openings available....So C'mon down, we have plenty of room for all! Here is a link that will give you all the info about the league: onetimesports.com ....or feel free to email me at "frank@swiftpublishing.com" if you still have any questions. Thanks, Fankie_Ray |

Title: Re: 2nd Half Fantasy League...starts in week 9 Post by DirkDiggler on Oct 19th, 2006, 8:31pm I have a few questions..... I figure I would ask them in public instead of PMing them becuase I am sure others have the same questions..... First, the winnings page is pretty generic. What EXACTLY are the winnings. 15% earn more than there money back is pretty generic...... Also, you state that 15% is more than every other website. Don't most websites (Sportsline and ESPN included) award the top 30% of league winners with at least there money back? Top 3 out of 10. (that is why I am so curious about the winnings.) Also, in your sample league, there are 30 teams with 5 divisions. Which of those teams are going to make the playoffs? Can you see other teams rosters during the week? And is there live scoring? I apoligize if the answers to these are on your website and I missed them. However, I looked twice and could not locate the answers. |

Title: Re: 2nd Half Fantasy League...starts in week 9 Post by Oakland4life on Oct 19th, 2006, 8:57pm DD, you beat me to the punch [smiley=tough.gif] I am glad that you posted this in public because I also had the same questions as you. I noticed also the current league members in your league Frankie. And if the winning team receives 15% of the total amount of entry fees collected, that seems very low. Lets say you have already collected $1,200 dollars, and after 11 weeks of boundless determination, I win the league, I only receive $145 dollars?(league fee subtracted) [smiley=annoyed.gif] [smiley=silence.gif] I am really surprised that you already have as many members that you do. I also wanted to ask how come you haven't even started at least ONE thread in your brand new forum that our esteemed administrator so swiftly and diligently created for you? I have seen you logged on numerous times today, yet, still not one thread created. It may be just me, but it would at least show Stegrock a little bit of consideration since he created it for you. Frankie, you sound like a stand-up guy, you are on the right track to begin a sound relationship here on the grid. But, please don't take these questions the wrong way, just because I may be a little skeptical of your league and its true intentions. I am just trying to find out some answers that myself and others may have. Thank you, and [smiley=welcome.gif] to the "Grid" O4L |

Title: Re: 2nd Half Fantasy League...starts in week 9 Post by Frankie_Ray on Oct 21st, 2006, 6:12am Greetings DirkDiggler & Oakland4Life... You wrote: "But, please don't take these questions the wrong way, just because I may be a little skeptical of your league and its true intentions. I am just trying to find out some answers that myself and others may have." No taking questions the wrong way here...due diligence on your part is both understood and expected! Let me answer your questions as best I can here, then feel free to ask any others: Oakland asked: -------------------- "I noticed also the current league members in your league Frankie. And if the winning team receives 15% of the total amount of entry fees collected, that seems very low. Lets say you have already collected $1,200 dollars, and after 11 weeks of boundless determination, I win the league, I only receive $145 dollars?(league fee subtracted) I am really surprised that you already have as many members that you do." OK, theres a lot to look at here in that question: First of all, the sample league that you see is a league that started at the beginning of the year...and you'll notice at the top of that page it says "62 owners...1 Goal" and you'll then notice in the front page text box that it says: "THis is Page 2 of NO EXCUSES" and then it gives the links for Page 1 and Page 3. Basically what happened is we had 68 original owners...6 of whom dropped out later...and before the season started we noticed that there were some glitches...which ultimately turned out to be because our website host (fantasymvp.net) had some programming bugs when the league size exceeded 32 teams which we exposed due to our numbers. So we split up the owners onto 3 pages...and the page 2 that you can view is home to 30 of the 62 teams. (If you follow the links, you CAN view all 3 pages) All 62 teams on those 3 pages are actually ONE league...and 19 of those teams make the playoffs in that league, regardless of Page and regardless of Backet. Second, the pay structure on that league is different than the 2nd half league for a couple of reasons... First that initial league was a No profit league, with 100% of owner entry fees going back as prizes. Next, in that initial league, the entry fee was only $20, and 30% of the owners make the playoffs....again because it is 100% return of owner fees which allows those higher percentages. In contrast, The 2nd half league that we are promoting now costs $34.95 and the Top 15% of teams make the playoffs...and the difference is because in this league we are giving the Footballguys.com Newsletter subscription to every owner (which has to be paid for) and we are spending marketing dollars to promote this league via Yahoo 'pay per click", etc...so it cant be a 100% return on entry fees or we'd be operating at a loss. The actual payout schedule depends on the total number of entrys. Our goal in this second half league is to have a minimum of 96 owners..at $34.95 each = $3,355.20 in total entry fees. The payout with 96 owners would then be as follows: 1. All owners get the Football Guys.com Subscription 2. 15 owners make the playoffs (which is 15.62% of the 96 owners which works out to 1 out of every 6.4 owners making the playoffs) 3. How the 15 playoff teams end up finishing in the playoffs (with 96 starting teams) would pay out as follows: 1st = $503.28 2nd = $125.00 3rd = $100.00 4th = $90.00 5th = $85.00 6th = $80.00 7th = $75.00 8th = $70.00 9th = $65.00 10th = $50.00 11th = $45.00 12th = $45.00 13th = $40.00 14th = $40.00 15th = $36.00 <--every team that makes the playoffs makes more than their entry fee even if they finish dead last in the playoffs. We could have made the Top 3 or 5 places much higher payouts, but then you have to be in the top 5 out of 96 or you're left with nothing...so a minimum of 1 out of 7 (15%) winning more than theie entry fee made a lot of sense to us. As for being surprised about the number of teams that we have, remember that those are guys who were in a start of the year league...not the 2nd half league...but I'll quickly point out that when you go to our website and read "What players are saying about No EXCUSES" all of the comments there are from those owners that are in our original league...the owners we have love how the league is run. In fact, it was their enthusiasm that got us thinking and moving forward with the 2nd half league. Anyone here on th GRidiron has an open invitation to go to the sample league and email any owner that you want frm that league and ask them what they think of the league. Also, on our handy dandy Gridiron Affiliate league message board, you'll find the latest WEEKLY REPORT that I put out each week posted there...in which I spotlight owners, keeps track of the record book, and in general just has fun with the league. That has been popular with the owners and keeps 'em coming back for more! OK, this one answer has stretched way too long so Im going to post it and then look at answering your other questions. Thanks for asking! Frankie Ray |

Title: Re: 2nd Half Fantasy League...starts in week 9 Post by Frankie_Ray on Oct 21st, 2006, 6:33am OK, back to your questions: You asked: "Can you see other teams rosters during the week? And is there live scoring?" Answer: Line-ups are hidden until the start of the weeks 1st game, at which point everyone's line-up appears in the "This weeks Match-ups" window. The scoring is 'semi-live"...in that everytime you refresh it will give you the latest updated scores. (But if you don't refresh, the page won't refresh automatically...you HAVE to hit the refresh button to get the latest scores.) You asked: " Also, in your sample league, there are 30 teams with 5 divisions. Which of those teams are going to make the playoffs?" I answerd this in my last post to Oaklands question, but for clarity I'll address it again: There are actually 62 teams on 3 pages in that league, 19 of which make the playoffs regardlss of what backet they are in. You asked: "Also, you state that 15% is more than every other website. Don't most websites (Sportsline and ESPN included) award the top 30% of league winners with at least there money back? Top 3 out of 10. (that is why I am so curious about the winnings.)" Answer: If there's a league out there in which more than 1 out of 7 wins at least their entry fee, then we never saw it and if we ever did see one or get shown one we would retract that statement and pull it. We searched a ton of football league sites and didn't find any with a better win ratio. 3 out of 10 would be a better ratio, so I went and checked on ESPN and SPORTSLINE...and couldn't find any leagues that were paying out like that. I couldnt find any pay leagues at all on ESPN, and here's what I found on Sportsline...basically that only 1 out of 12 wins: From: http://football.sportsline.com/splash/football/spln/single/faq#2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Q: How much does it cost to play and what can I win? A: There are different versions of CBS SportsLine.com Fantasy Football 2006. The Basic version costs $14.95 per team, but there is no league champion prize. The Gold version costs $39.95 per team, with a $200 league champion prize! The Platinum version costs $99.95 per team, with a $600 league champion prize! The Diamond version costs $249.95 per team, with a $1,600 league champion prize! The Double Diamond version costs $499.95 per team, with a $3,500 league champion prize!" Feel free to ask any other questions! Thanks, Frank |
