Gridiron Guarantee is a weekly feature where you get to show off your football knowledge [smiley=graduate.gif] and make a bold prediction concerning any game or player for the coming weekend.

The prediction can be game-related, fantasy-specific, or personal. [smiley=footballsmiley.gif]

Make a bold prediction. Don't just say Ronde Barber will join his brother Tiki for a heartfelt interview with ESPN where Tiki reiterates that he will retire at the end of the season. That's too easy. Predict something that will have everyone in awe when it actually happens. For example, Tiki Barber gets "jacked up" by his brother Ronde on Sunday--ending his 2006 season in week 8, prompting Tiki to return in 2007 to end his career on his own terms. Then come back here on Monday or Tuesday and give us all the "I told you so"s. If you're wrong, who will ever remember? [smiley=tonguin.gif]

I have no idea how ANYONE can top StegRock's prediction last week that the Raiders would stun the Cardinals...but I will give it my best shot:

The Vikings will defeat the Patriots by at least 7 points...

Peyton Manning will NOT throw a TD in Denver this weekend.

Wali Lundy will be out performed by Samkon Gado even though he will get more than double the touches Gado receives. The Texans will seal the win against Tennessee on a long touchdown run (30+ yds.) from Gado late in the game. I can't get any more specific than that!!!  [smiley=footballsmiley.gif]

I don't want to get too serious here,... but, MC, how confident are you that Gado is even going to be active this week?  Word out of the Houston Chronicle according to KFFL is that Dayne will be the #2 this week.  Can't find it at the Chronicle yet. The Denver Broncos take a beating (I'm thinking 20 points or more difference in score) from the Colts this weekend, and in the process, lose both Tatum Bell and Jake Plummer, paving the way for the next generation of Broncos in Jay Cutler and Mike Bell.

Okay, I think I learned a valuable lesson last week. That is, there is a fine line between predicting what you want to happen and predicting what will happen. I tend to predict things I want to happen, instead of going with my gut.

This week I think I will regret not picking up Santonio Holmes in all of my leagues. I had my chance, and I blew it.

In this weeks "Battle of the backups"   QB Casey Printers will come onto the field in the 4th QT after Croyle gets "Knocked Out" with a concussion.  He will lead the Chiefs to a victory with a chip shot field goal to win by 2 over the Seahawks.

Hows THAT for specificity  ;D

I've found that when I want something to happen with one of my FF players (i.e., predict a big game), that the exact opposite tends to happen. I try not to put my FF players in the Red Zone Primed Players for the same reason.

OK.  Frye plays the Jets this week.

But my bigger-than-against-the-Jets Guarantee is that Fry will pass for at least 2 TD's, run at least one in, and throw for over 250 yards.

Let's tease this one out a bit. The Colts tend to play very well in big games (in the regular season). This is a big game, by all accounts. The Broncos also have shown next to nothing offensively this season. So the score is a possibility.

Tatum Bell has a history of injuries. His fragility is part of what has kept Coach ShamIam from really giving him the car keys and saying "stay out as late as you want". Now he's been riding him this year (averaging more than 20 carries a game for the season). It's possible that he is "due" for an injury.

Jake Plummer has been bad... one good game in six attempts is not going to cut it. The team is where they are because of their defense, plain and simple. The Colts have a very good pass rush and should be able to get to Jake a couple/few times. A good hit that sends him to the sideline might be just enough incentive for Coach to give Cutler a shot at reviving a comatose offense.

So my Gridiron Guarantee does present an (overall) unlikely scenario, but I think each piece of it has just enough of a hint of truth behind it that all three have a shot (a longshot, mind you) of coming to fruition.

Now, if you are doing this for the audience, that's cool, Jeff.  But, PLEASE, NOTE, that in what I wrote, I never contested/challenged the reasoning behind the prediction qua prediction.  I was just gettin' my boy's back and venting, EVER SO playfully. [smiley=tonguin.gif] Qua "Gridiron Guarantee", your arguments are right... [smiley=bullseye.gif] (I don't necessarily see it,... but who cares?  A) That's the mere conventional notion, and B) this is the "Gridiron Guarantee" thread "between the 20's" on which we are supposed to reeeach and make bold predictions.  So,... whatever,... [smiley=pullleeeeeeeze.gif] to me!  That's why I made it an explicit "offtopic" post.)  We're cool, right? [smiley=letsmakeup.gif] (Just tryin' to cover bases here.)

Now this was close. He did throw for over 200+, he had 3 total TD's, and he did turn the ball over on downs during the game winning/ending drive.

I didn't swing and miss, but I hit a wicked line drive that still drifted into foul territory (to mix my metaphors)...

The Broncos took a defensive beating. (Hey, 3 points, 20 points, let's not quibble here.)

Mike Bell handily outperformed Tatum Bell. (OK, the Broncos didn't technically "lose" Bell the way I predicted.)

Jay Cutler probably wouldn't have done too much worse than Plummer. (Plummer wasn't lost to the Broncos either, but he's been playing "lost" for much of the season.)

And, as a bonus, my boy Tony Scheffler made a statement to be used more at TE.
