Title: 2007 Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge Post by StegRock on Jan 3rd, 2007, 4:09am Join us in the "Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge" on "the Gridiron"! Here are the few details you NEED to know: 1) Scoring - Fairly simple... proportionate scoring... Correctly predicting the winner(s)...
You are also to include a TOTAL POINTS SCORED for the Super Bowl. That is how the winner of the Challenge will be determined in case of a tie/ties. Got it??? If not, just screw it! You'll see how it's done after it's tabulated. Just put your picks up and let the rest unfold... So, moving right along,... 2) Submitting your playoff predictions FIRST OFF, ONLY ONE SUBMISSION PER MEMBER!!! Only your last submission will be counted. Next, you are to submit them either to "Referee" by instant message here on "the Gridiron": (Direct Link) http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=imsend;to=Mod1; or via the following thread: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=56;action=display;num=1167815164. Your picks are DUE by the kickoff of the Wild-Card games this Saturday, January 7th!!! You are to use a format that doesn't boggle the mind, something along the lines of the following is what I suggest and since I am processing the stuff and you surely don't want me to get your picks wrong, the suggestion of the guy processing the stuff should probably be paid extra heed to (huh?): Wild-Card Round Tampa Bay over Washington New England over Jacksonville New York over Carolina Cincinnati over Pittsburgh Divisional Round Chicago over Tampa Bay Seattle over New York Denver over Cincinnati Indianapolis over New England Conference Championships Seattle over Chicago Indianapolis over Denver Super Bowl Indianapolis over Seattle (49 points total will be scored) FINALLY, another little twist following along the lines of the aforementioned twist of having points subtracted if you do not forecast the correct opponent,... for those adventurous (in one way) or should I say less adventurous (in another) souls who are willing to concede imperfection but want to hedge their bets,... a bracket that doesn't make sense based on your prior predictions may be submitted... For example: Wild-Card Weekend Jacksonville over New England Divisional Round New England over Indianapolis BUT, you can only submit one, right??? So,... I think, while you'll all find this to be an intriguing wrinkle and hedging your bets, especially given the first twist, may seem tempting, you'll ultimately find conceding to imperfection pretty hard... 3) Score Tallies will be reported every week right here on THIS thread, the administration and discussion thread. Discussions, commentary and questions are welcomed on this thread... |

c-dub, I don't know where you got the "revision of picks" idea. It's nowhere in the rules stated hereabove. And, in any event, none of the rest of us made any revisions, which is a "signal", so to speak. ;) It was sheer dominatrixness,... uh,... I mean,... dominance ;) by Callie this year... [smiley=dick.jpg][smiley=mywhippinboy.gif] You go, girl!!! [smiley=cheerleader.gif] |

I'm sorry. Congrats, Larsman! ... The point was that she won it outright... with a week left to go... Of course, a little congratulatory love here on the boards for our gal, besides from me, would be "nicer" to see being "focused on"... :-/ |

Title: Re: 2007 Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge Post by StegRock on Feb 4th, 2007, 4:13am Well, still no... [smiley=no.gif] But, hey, you made sure to get that score of mine announced here on the boards... [smiley=clap.gif] I guess the thought process is: "From what I can tell of Steg's demeanor and frequent absence these days and what went on this past year, it seems like he is at his wit's end with things around here and crawling to the finish line, and performing like shit with his playoff picks, while still faithfully performing his duties for us, probably makes it all the worse for the poor bastard, but, hey, let me make sure I don't miss out on the opportunity to rub it in his face." Huh... Great... [smiley=clap.gif] |

Now you're talking apples and oranges... It's one thing to win and flaunt it (that's precisely, at least in part, what we play for here; nothing else is at stake) and a WHOLE nother to go out of your way to just rub it in the last place guy's face, the guy who, not to mention, puts his heart and soul into running the damn show. And, anyway, if I did win it, I would NOT go out of my way to poke fun in public at the guys who performed particularly poorly... unless, of course, they had proven to be mother fuckers, people I wanted off my site and out of my life (as this place represents a pound of flesh taken off me). I would just give a general... [smiley=booya.gif] The only other dudes I might give a little extra ribbin' to would be my boyz on the site, the guys who I, coming in, know personally (e.g. the GBRFLers) and have intimate relationships with or those who, as members just coming in from the internet, have made that extra BIG step to get to know me and how I tick and, moreover, have come to have an appreciation and respect for (the subtleties of) how I tick (and not look to twist shit around and throw it back in my face, a process during which all the subtleties and specifics, the real pith of the matter, of the different "encounters" that I "endure"/"put myself through" here get lost (in the midst of one-line, defensive retorts)). But, even that would likely be done in private by telephone or private message and, in any event, relative to my relationship with the person (e.g., I would treat DB, the best man at my wedding, quite differently than I would treat, let's say, MC, a fellow who has definitely tried to understand whence I am coming around here and who I have developed quite a good friendship with, but, in truth, primarily over the internet with a couple phone calls interspersed; these are different relationships that require actions grounded in the authentic nature of those relationships; it's when we transgress those bounds that we end up losing "budding" friendships, i.e., it's when we treat a "budding" friendship like an "established" one that we often screw things up). Anyway, the real interesting question, I think, is "Would I (anyone, not just you, Larsman) have made it a point to rub it in JUST any(random)one's face who finished so miserably other than Steg?" And, then, if the answer were "No", the follow-up question: "Why is it that I give Steg such 'special' treatment?" These are curious and, I believe, crucial inquiries. I know they are queries I am conscious of. Furthermore, in any case, your response to the "thought process", you gotta know I see as proof in the pudding, man. My guess, and I see your response as corroborative, is that there was very little to no thought process at all. That's really my point. It's not that I think that lame-ass shit is actually what you thought, dude. The point is much subtler than that. The point is that IF you thought it (a good part of the) way through, that (or something very similar to what I've stated above) is what you'd come up with and you would probably then come to the conclusion, "All things considered, is givin' the old Stegger the 'public' rub here really worth it?" Furthermore, perhaps the thought might enter your head, "In the meantime, did I ever make it a point to thank the chap at the end of the season for running that complementary CBFL league I enjoyed all season long?" I guess, where I am coming from here, it would just be "nice" to see congratulations to the champs and a little thanks go out to the guy behind the scenes making it all happen at least as much as the rubs (modest donations notwithstanding (I just mention this because I have been made to feel "overall", especially this season, that just because dudes throw a 20-spot or something at me, I owe them something; that is just straight-up bullshit)). :-/ But, hey, I'm amazing... "The Amazing Steg"... [smiley=wizard.gif] ... ;) ... :-/ |
