Nice draft.

I'll only comment on the only team I care about, the Vikings.

No way in hell do they even consider Ginn, way to early for him, and I can't see them taking a Williamson clone. (IMO of course, but with little better hands).

If it shook out like that, they would take what some consider the best defensive player in the draft.  Landry out of LSU.  The signing of Doss means nothing, and it shouldn't when he's (once again) considered the "one" of the best defensive players to come out...... Doss one year contract, Sharper getting up there in age.  Blue, a 2nd year promising player, the secondary in the middle would be set for years with Landry.

Also, needed to add....there is no questioning the Vikings needs for WR's, but the pass defense was just as pathetic as the WR's.  So a case can be made for either.  #7 for Ginn, is just WWWAAAYYYY to early, he's more of a #16-#21 pick (IMO of course)

Just say "No"  [smiley=alcoholic.gif] to the Ginn  ;)

I do see the Vikes trading down to get Ginn (I feel that this is who they'll end up drafting, since they are so hurting for a playmaking WR since Moss left) and acquiring maybe another pick or two.

C'mon Larsen!!!!! You know you care about your new hometown TEXANS!!! Rumor has it that you even fly a Texans flag on your house, have a Texans sticker on the bumper of your car, and a big old Mario Williams fathead on your wall at home.  ;)
[smiley=texan.gif].....oh I'm sorry...was that supposed to be a secret?

The Raiders could go with Russell at first overall.  On the other hand, they could be doing a Raider juke and could really be targeting C. Johnson.  Unless Oakland goes to the shotgun a whole lot more, Walter is a better fit in the offense it looks like Kiffin will be running.  And for that matter, Troy Smith would also be a better fit than Russell and could probably be taken in the 3rd.  If Moss stays and shows up and the Raiders take Johnson, D's can't double cover both of them.  And if TE Madsen pins a linebacker and the QB is actually allowed to go somewhere instead of taking steps till he gets creamed, someone might actually get the chance to throw to one of them or Porter or Curry.  (I expect the O-line to look very different next year.  Zone blocking instead of man-to-man, for one thing, and not so gawd awful predictable on every play.)  And of course, the run will improve significantly to take off the pressure.  (My Magic 8 Ball told me so, but I still wanted Peterson.)

I still don't trust Russell as the first overall for Oakland, and Al Davis wants to win big before he dies.  So currently, I predict Oakland will take Johnson.

Troy Smith is a horrible NFL prospect. I don't see him ever starting in the NFL. There are 10-12 QBs in this draft better than the Heisman Trophy winner, IMO.

Fine with me!  I've always backed staying with Walter and drafting Peterson or Johnson.   ;D

Edit:  Wait a minute, I missed an opportunity here.  You know way more about college ball than I do.  So, if the Raiders take CJ at first and then an OL with their second pick, who do you think they should take at QB with their third?

Second Edit:  Trent Edwards at second pick???  Then which OL at third???

BTW - I'm not being sarcastic.  I probably should have gone easier on the question marks to make that clear.  I'd really like to know what all you guys think about this, and I'm a little nuts waiting for the draft.   ;D

Larsen, what do you want the Vikes to do on O-line?

Take your pick: Drew Stanton, Kevin Kolb, John Beck, Edwards...just not Smith.

Hey!  I did it THREE times!!!  ;D

I hear that Walsh is still still close to Al Davis and has told Davis that Trent Edwards would be the steal of the draft, but it sounds like he'd have to be taken in the second.

Can't say that I agree with a lot of BW's projections here, but I do agree that JaMarcus Russell will go #1 overall, to Oakland.

I will add that this year's draft seems to be the hardest to project of any that I can remember in recent years. I keep trying to put a mock together and it seems to fall apart before I'm even 1/2 way through the first round.

I will get one together before draft day and post it. I've been trying hard to squeeze some info out of some of the scouts I've met at pro day workouts, but to little avail at this point.

I totally agree Philly....the talent level falls off so much after the top 7-9 players that you almost have to put on a 3-4th round mental hat midway through the first and start looking at need.  There's going to be a LOT of headscratchers in the latter part of round 1 as most team's boards are going to differ a lot.

Couldn't agree more here Lars...no WAY they pass on Landry if he's sitting there.   Griffin, Winfield on the corners.  Landry and Blue/Doss/Sharper in the middle.   I'd take that!   If James and Udeze and Scott can get anywhere close to a pass rush, I like the look of the defense a lot.

One thing I've been thinkin' on...if Quinn slips by Cleveland, I really believe someone will try to hop into Washington's #6 to take him.  I have the Top 7 as:
OAK -> Russell
DET -> Thomas
CLE -> Peterson
TB -> Johnson
ARI -> Adams
MIA -> Quinn
MIN -> Landry

I see the Bills and the Packers as possible suitors to move up there too, but the Packers have a LONG way to go down at #16.

The Vikings may have to pay up to swap with WAS and assure they get Quinn if he slips by CLE.

The Vikes aren't sitting that badly on O-Line.  They could use a RG, but there isn't much in the draft that fits their zone block scheme well outside of maybe Grubbs.  A lot of prospect/potential type guys.  They'll need depth and will probably do that late day 1 or day 2, IMO.
