Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by StegRock on Aug 11th, 2007, 5:53pm C-dub, you had picked out of order with your #4 pick, so I deleted it (and took Frank Gore myself, anyway). I'm sure your heart was in the right place. I can guess that you very well were trying to keep this snail moving. But, I think in the (very) beginning here, regardless of how slow this is going, we have to be more sensitive to establishing the right pattern for people to follow than keep it moving. Thank you for the thought, though. :) |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by DirkDiggler on Aug 11th, 2007, 6:39pm So far this draft is going as I would expect. However, the next pick is where I see it going in many directions depending on the draft. At 7 it is not uncommon to see Manning, Rudi, or Willie Parker. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 11th, 2007, 7:25pm I took Westbrook at 7 because of the scoring (although Manning would have probably been good). BWB should get receiving yards in this system that would balance Parker or more. If he stays healthy. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by cwhams on Aug 11th, 2007, 7:53pm I like Wesbrook quite alot, he did manage a carreer high 322 carries last season and played in 15 games...did I mention his 673 receiving yards to go along with his 1172 rushing yards and 10 TDs. Look for those numbers to stay about the same this year. It was a pretty good pick. [smiley=clap.gif] |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 11th, 2007, 8:33pm I know it's about the fact that S. Smith will be doubled all over the place, about passing accuracy, and about concerns about who will be WR2. But heck, it was pick 12. I figured it was also about yards and about whenever he takes it in & how often. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by StegRock on Aug 11th, 2007, 8:44pm The Master Rankings list maintained above in the initial post of this thread has been updated through the current pick, #13. [smiley=bow.gif] |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by steelkings on Aug 11th, 2007, 9:44pm I'm continued to be suprised to see Parker so high in drafts when he has a swollen knee as has been barely participating in camp. The Steelers are downplaying it, but swollen knees are seldom good. |
||||
|
Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 11th, 2007, 10:01pm I took Reggie Bush this high for the same reason I took Westbrook high. Yards points in CBFL scoring are good for this. |

|
Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 12th, 2007, 12:01am I took Benson over Portis at 21 in the interest of safety. And after what Orton did tonight, there might be fewer than 8 in the box this season (I know, against scrubs. But it's worth a look.). And if you chickens and pirates don't start commenting, I'm going to stop revealing MY takes! ;D |

|
Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by StegRock on Aug 12th, 2007, 1:03am I would take Benson over Portis going into '07, period... |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 12th, 2007, 1:40am Well, at 24 in this scoring system, I can't pass Portis up. |

This is a sentiment with which I am in 100% agreement. I mean... there's A LOT of early preseason hype and bullshit right now to wade through,... BS coach-speak and for all intents and purposes feigned hammies. Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by cwhams on Aug 12th, 2007, 9:01am I would agree about Parker...I don't agree about the swollen knee thing...swollen knees are typical and do not necessarily mean a whole lot. In many cases a few days off or a needle and your fine. Speaking of knees, tendenitous is a more serious problem and Clinton Portis has that diagnois. Depending on what legal anti-inflamatory the league will allow...this could be a real not imagined problem. :( |

[offtopic]Just to clarify,... speaking for myself (not sk, but I think he and I would pretty much be in agreement here),... I wasn't meaning anything technical with my use of the general terms "swollen knee" and "sore toe". In a general sense, I meant that they are a red flag, which they undoubtedly are, and in a more specific sense, I meant that, if it turns out to be a "bum (tendinitus) knee" (like is increasingly looking is the case with Portis) or "bad (turf) toe" (a la Ron Dayne this time last year), you've got a problem.[/offtopic] |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 12th, 2007, 7:09pm Looks like DD and I were putting in Jones-Drew at the same time, but he got it in first. I removed mine and picked again, but I agree with the idea. In this system, he could do well with both runs and catches, like BWB. (Sorry for the delay in this post. My keyboard keeps locking me into caps lock. I had to reboot. Anyone have a suggestion about that?) |

After what he did last year, I think he is going to get way more carries then old Fred Taylor. He proved what he can do last year and besides, isn't he in the "fantasy football hall of fame"? |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by StegRock on Aug 12th, 2007, 7:47pm Personally, I think MD-J is the most OVER-hyped player right now... I think he's gone about 10 or so spots too high here. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by rickgpin on Aug 12th, 2007, 9:48pm i was putting in mjd at the same time. thanks to whoever deleted my duplicate. i think that fragile fred will carry the load, but mjd will repeat last years performance. this seems like the right spot for him here. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by MordecaiCourage on Aug 12th, 2007, 10:18pm Edge at 31. ::) I think he should have gone before at least 3 RB's picked ahead of him! |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 12th, 2007, 10:32pm A lot of WRs are going here pretty early. But I had to see Wayne go before a QB left the board. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by cwhams on Aug 13th, 2007, 7:08am Edge ended last season with decent numbers. I think that Arizona had one of the better drafts and off season acquisitions, i.e. Levi Brown, Al Johnson and Mike Gandy. The offensive line is much better meaning, better at the run, meaning better at the pass...Leinart and Edge will both be better...as well as the receiving corp...already pretty salty. :D |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 13th, 2007, 7:38pm With Dunn's surgery and Petrino's system, Norwood should probably have gone earlier. (BTW - Our numbering is off. One number was done twice.) |

This, I just disagree with. I do not think Norwood is the right fit for Petrino's system, no less one led by Joey Harrington. Petrino's high % passing system includes dink-and-dunk passes to backs. This is much more Dunn's forte than Norwoods. Now, the injury is another story. Of course, it's a factor that canNOT be ignored. But, all things equal, which, because of the injury, they aren't, Dunn's the better fit as I see it. Quote:

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by cwhams on Aug 13th, 2007, 10:31pm Fred Taylor ;D , can you say, sopthmore slump" Rickpin? I'm not believing the 16 TDs of Jones-Drew last season, but what do I know, I've been picked dead last in the CBFL the past two years. :D If it were'nt for good ole Mort, 2nd to last, may not have had any hope to rejoice. :( |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by MordecaiCourage on Aug 14th, 2007, 1:11pm It's always difficult to pick the Cowboy RB's draft order. Jones gets the yards....Barber the TD's. I took Barber because he gets some yardage to go along with that TD or 2 he gets!! Standard scoring league Barber - 42 yards and 2 TD's = 16 pts Jones - 118 yards = 11 pts as sk says " 'nuff said!" |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 14th, 2007, 6:50pm Reggie Brown at 59 with the hopes of McNabb staying healthy. Also, you guys are scarfing up all of the RBs. ;D |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by cwhams on Aug 14th, 2007, 7:31pm Barber vs Jones, more like: Standard scoring league Barber - 40 yards and 1 TD's = 10 pts Jones - 70 yards and .25 TD = 8.5 pts I still give Barber the nod by a nose. [smiley=shrug.gif] You pick... ?.?.? |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Callie on Aug 14th, 2007, 10:02pm Couldn't resist the Bears D falling this low (at 62). If I wanted to pick up a D early, I'd be surprised to see the Bears drop this low in usual drafts. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by rickgpin on Aug 14th, 2007, 10:22pm Might as well start a run on defenses. I think there is a drop off after the Ravens, Bears, and Patriots. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by Philly on Aug 15th, 2007, 10:04am Hey Steg... this may seem petty, and it probably is, but I think some of us might be more inclined to use the representative "team smileys" if they were easier to locate. Some of them don't make a ton of sense, but I understand that they're the best fit given the smiley corps that is represented on the Gridiron. I drafted a Tennessee Titan and was quickly able to find the smiley because it was named "Titan". When I drafted a Detroit Lion, it took quite a bit more searching. I understand that you can just click on the "View All Smilies" link, but even that can be daunting to sift through. |

Title: Re: 2nd "Huddle" Rankings/Mock Draft of '07 - Comm Post by StegRock on Aug 15th, 2007, 5:55pm Well, nothing is going to happen in the near future with that... That's a HUGE job... [smiley=builder.gif] (and last I looked I still don't get paid to run this place, no less be in a position to pay others to help me run this place,... which is really where we are with this place). Based on priority, magnitude and scope, I'd say it's a job that isn't even (close to being) on the... [smiley=radar.gif] THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, to "help yourself" out with this, right-clicking an image (a team smiley) wherever you see it and, when viewing its "Properties", looking at the end of the URL and seeing the actual file name, e.g. "zenmaster.gif", can sometimes be helpful. The file name usually accords with the smiley/message icon name [and, even though this won't help you with "Message icons", for message smilies, if you are good with UBB code, it gives you the GIF (or JPEG) name that you need to put in the smiley UBB code in your message]. But, this is a personal solution... ANOTHER (someone-)do-it-yourself OPTION and global SOLUTION that would be a much smaller job and a decent interim solution that ONE OF YOU GUYS could get on (and earn yet another StegsList.com (http://www.stegslist.com) discount) would be to just make a list of the team message icons that I could post somewhere (probably "the Sidelines"). The list could simply go like this, e.g.: Team Name - Message Icon - Message Icon Name Dallas Cowboys - [smiley=cowboy.gif] - "Cowboy" Denver Broncos - [smiley=horsey.gif] - "Horsey" Detroit Lions - [smiley=lion.gif] - "Roarin in" And, so on... If someone savvy with UBB code wanted to really get jiggy with it, it could be put in a UBB table, which would make the presentation REALLY neat. Heck, even if the volunteer did not do the table, as long as the rest was well done, I'd consider contributing that bonus myself. :) Also, the person who does this can EASILY view them all in "the Red Zone (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55)" as there they are all used as the message icons for their respective team reports. SO, there are various fronts on which we can attack this, and there's a way to work together on this, and, who knows, as regards that second global solution, perhaps that page would lead someday to team smiley-ONLY message icon and smiley clickable lists/drop-down menus (although, the easiest way to accomplish this "conceptually" and "administratively" would probably be to just rename the team smilies according to the teams' names,... but, again,... that's going to be a TIME-CONSUMING bitch of JOB on me). So, any volunteers...??? :-/ |

Yous know,... after thinking about this for a bit,... I think I could even add a "View NFL team icons" link to such a page on the "Start new topic" and "Post reply" pages next to where the "Message icon" comes up. That would be a HUGE help, no??? Of course, that is if/when this page actually gets made. If the job falls on my shoulders, I regret to say that it probably ain't going to be very soon. :-/ |

Hell,... with that in mind,... we could just make it an HTML page instead of a message-board thread. That would make making the table MUCH EASIER. As many of yous know, like those on the writing staff, an HTML table is MUCH EASIER to construct than a UBB table, which is a total nightmare. Also, this would make it MUCH more professional. Anybody??? This is sounding more and more like something I'd like to get done... [smiley=yes.gif] |

I say "'last' pick" with both meanings of the word in mind... Mainly, I'm thinking we need to shoot this limping horse and put him out of his misery. [smiley=deadhorse.gif] It's been a decent "Huddle",... not one of our best. It just never seemed to catch wind and really sail. At least, we got it to 100. If there are dudes out there who REALLY want to keep this sucker going, don't let me stop you. BUT, if you put up further picks, PLEASE plan to COMMIT to regular participation until, at least, pick 125 or so, and, preferably, pick 150. Again, I think this "Huddle" is best laid to rest...
