Title: How do you think my draft turned out?
Post by captainpurple on Aug 20th, 2007, 9:32am
I'm not real happy, but let me know your thoughts.    Thanks for ANY help here, it's a bit long, but I'd really like your feedback.  CHEERS!

Scoring: QB Heavy (6/passTD), PPR (1pt/rec) and return yds (1pt/15yds).   We get 1 keeper as our 7th rd pick, provided the keeper was a 5th rd or later pick (or FA pickup).

Round 1 (8): Willie Parker.  Was targeting Parker or BWB, so happy to get a 2nd solid starting RB right away.  1st 7 picks went LT, SJax, LJ, Peyton, BWB, Rudi, Zander.
Round 2 (13): Torry Holt.   Have to have  a stud WR in a PPR format.
Round 3 (28): Drew Brees.  Last of top 5 QBs available.  Passed Boldin and Javon Walker for him, so I'm unsure if I did that right.
Round 4 (33): Antonio Gates. Hoped Boldin or Walker would drop, but both went in the next 4 picks, so took top TE.
Round 5 (48): Deion Branch.  First pick I'm really wondering about now that I look back.  Caddy, Norwood, Ahman, Kevin Jones, Coles, Driver and Santana Moss were still available.   I needed a WR, but not sure Branch was the wisest pick.
Round 6 (53): Donald Driver.  Felt better about it when Driver dropped.
Round 7 (68): Keeper Reggie Bush.  Complete stud in this format (PPR and returns).
Round 8 (88): Lendale White.   I needed to go RB.  Tatum Bell, Lamont Jordan and Jamal Lewis still there, but I think White could be every bit as good as Henry was last year if he gets his head on straight.
Round 9 (93):  Jamal Lewis.  In case White doesn't get his head on straight
Round 10 (108): Mark Clayton. Real wildcard here.  could be terrific.  Brandon Jackson, Drew Bennett and Kevin Curtis were still there...reach?
Round 11 (113): Muhsin Muhammed.  hate relying on Rex, but if Griese plays, really like Mush.
Round 12 (128):  Michael Turner. Wanted to stick it to the LT owner, who sniped Adrian Peterson on me!   ;D
Round 13 (133): DALLAS.  A top 5 unit this late, so felt pretty good about it.
Round 14 (148): Olindo Mare.  Have Saints QB, RB and K, probably need to pick up Stover and drop Mare.
Round 15 (153): Anthony Gonzales.  Could be a terrific sleeper in PPR leagues.
Round 16 (168): Brett Favre. I hate the Packers...no really.  I'm talking real hate here.   But Favre in the 16th round??? :o :o
Round 17 (173): Brian Leonard. I have the #1 overall pick's backup in Turner, so thought I'd take the #2 overall as well.  Might get a lucky injury.

Team:
QB: Brees, Favre
RB: Parker, Bush, White, Lewis, Turner
WR: Holt, Branch, Driver, Clayton, Muhammed, Gonzales
TE: Gates
K: Mare
D: DALLAS

FAs:
QB: Garcia, McNair, Campbell, Green, Losman, Culpepper
RB: Michael Pittman, Dayne, Chris Brown, Chris Henry
WR: Burleson, Crayton, Williamson, Baskett, Michael Clayton
TE: Owen Daniels, Scheffler
K: Stover, Gotkowski, Akers, Nedney
DEF: OAK, PIT, NYJ

Thoughts?   See any roster moves I should make?
Drop Favre for Garcia?
Move Mare for Stover?
Anyone see the TEN RBBC shaking out other than with White?

Thanks!

The Biggest problem I see here for you is that when Drew Brees is on a Bye during week 4, Guess who the Vikings play. You think you hate Farve now. Wait til he has one of his typical completely worthless days that he usually has in Minnesota. (and the Packers still somehow win) Think how hateful you will be then.

With that said. I think I'd wait for a while before making any move. Half of the QB's on that list are an injury waiting to happen. I like your team. I dont think you made a mistake with Branch. I think its well balanced and should be very competitive. The biggest concern is Fast Willy Parker. There was lots of changes in the O-line in Pittsburgh. Then again, being a huge Steeler fan I may be a little shy to success.

I like all of the free agent kickers better than mare, but thats just me! akers is always solid and I think Gotkowski who is top 5 kickers in some rankings will have a big second year!

You ain't a kiddin'!  That settles it....I'm dropping Brat Farte for Garcia.   He plays @CAR week 4, which isn't great, but at least I don't have to root for Farte.  ;D

If having Brees is only a downfall week 4, and injuries are what will hurt me (don't they always), I guess I feel OK with that.   Hopefully it's LT that gets injured and I can ride Michael Turner to another championship!

I also like Akers and Stover better than Mare.

Call me crazy, but I like Losman better than Garcia.  If you are looking at week 4 only, the Bills should be primed and ready to go after losing their first three games to Denver, Pittsburgh and New England.  The Jets will seem like a cake walk.  Of course they could also be shell shocked.

If you are worried about LanDale White you should drop Leonard and pick up Chris Henry.
