OK, Here we go. Are you ready for a shock ! I'm making my pick.

I'm having more fun with this than I've had in a long time. Is it my turn to go again yet?

That was a cunning, well thought out pick by The Juror.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

Never saw that coming.

The first two picks went according to expectations (although, I guess, I would not have argued if they were reveresed).  It was clear to me that Peterson and Lynch were the cream of the crop this year.  Now it gets interesting.

Hey Todd...did you mean to type in Adrian Peterson - Chi? or was that just a mistake?  ?.?.? :o

Yes very intertesting! Now hurry the hell up, I don't have a pick in the first round! Two years in a row. Gotta stop that next year!

I thought I remembered something about this on the GOTG threads, so I went and looked for it.  Jim said this:

He may not be around till tomorrow, since he may not know that anything started.

On the other hand......he came on.

No you didn't. However I thought for a second I picked: 1.01 - BD - Norm Peterson - Boston

BD = Beer drinker

Would have been a great pick!

Three somewhat expected picks so far.   Not a lot of risk there yet.

Post by PrimeTime on Aug 22nd, 2007, 9:44pm
Wow!  Still three guys left who I like and only one more pick until I am up.  It looks like I will have a tough decision but either way I think it will be ok.

This year you wanted to pick 1 to 6 after that it gets tough.

I projected I would get Quinn at 1.05.  That is why I protected Charlie Frye.  I could have taken Russell, but I think Quinn will see the field earlier (maybe even start game one).

I hope the Notre Dame hype is more than "hype" ;)

Now all I need is Carr to beat our Delhomme and I am set at QB.

I hope that no one was sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for my pick. I was hoping one of the big three RBs would fall to me, but I kinda figured it would go this way (especially since I knew who Jim was taking once the first two went).

Calvin Johnson might not be a great pick for this year, but he's got future stud written all over him.

Now let's see what falls to me at 1.8!

(PS - The internet here at the hotel has been shaky. It seems like they have limited bandwidth and this is about the time everyone in the hotel is online. I'll try my best.)

I knew the big 3 RB's would be gone ...Cal too... I was hoping Quinn was gonna fall, but hey I'll go with Russell.  ;D Like you said Gene, it gets tougher now. :P

Title: Re: '07 GBRFL2 Draft GENERAL DISCUSSION thread
Post by PrimeTime on Aug 22nd, 2007, 10:09pm
Yea I agree with you Philly.  I was sitting there looking at Quinn, Russell, and Johnson.  It was really a toss up for me.  I think Russell has more talent than Quinn, but I think Quinn is further along due to the coaching he received from Wiess.  I not crazy about having a QB on the Browns who also has to play Pittsburgh and Baltimore twice every season.

Johnson should be a stud WR for years to come.  I'm not sure which way I would have went if I was picking in your spot.  I think I may have taken Johnson also.

Actually you cant go wrong with the top 6 this year.

Hey Philly...

Thanks and no thanks  :)

Thanks for making up my mind for what I am going to do with my pick at 1.10....

And no thanks for taking the one and only Defense I was considering taking with that pick.  ;D

I took a gamble at 1.07 with Chris Henry.

I can always use another RB and if he manages to beat out LanDale White and Chris Brown, I could be golden.

I am willing to wait unitl next year for him.  Hopefully he will get a few starts at the end of the year so I can see if he is worth protecting for next year.

Title: Re: '07 GBRFL2 Draft GENERAL DISCUSSION thread

I think I had three different names typed in for the 1.08 pick before I pressed POST. That was a tough pick. I know it may be unconventional to go defense so early, but I think San Diego's D is better than people think. Now I'm set for the season with (what should be) a pair of top tier defenses.

I think he's golden. He's gonna get the chance to prove he's the man. Brown will break down and LenDale just won't put up a fight.

RB is thin this year, so I would've taken the same gamble at 1.08 had you not done so a pick earlier.

It made your choice easier having that "extra" first round pick.  You got your young stud in Johnson plus your defense.  Nice going!  Having a pick at 2.04 also helps  ;D

It really speaks to how poor this draft pool is. Last year, a DU wasn't selected until almost the 4th round. This year 2 were selected in the top 12 picks in the mother league. It looks a if this group will follow suit.

Guys, I will stay on-line until 11PM.  If Callie does not pick prior to 11PM, then DO NOT wait up for me because I will be in bed.

It was nice to get a round in today.  Thanks to all who made a pick tonight [smiley=clap.gif].

Not by me.  I am in rebuilding mode. A good defense will not help my team. :'(

That would be like putting an perfume on a pig.  It smells a little better, but it is still a pig.

Of course the NFL bye scheduler did not look at my roster prior to making the schedule and scheduled all my RBs with the same bye. That's why I traded my Panther duo for Jacobs. Then I draft Jackson, who has....week 7 off!!! NICE! :)

I think Chris Henry makes total sense here.  He has as good as shot as anyone else as being a performer.  The other RBs there have not 'stepped up' their performance and taken advantage of the situation!

I hope you are right!

My thinking is after Peterson/Lynch/Jackson Henry seemed like the guy with the best shot to be a number one.  My guess is that Brown and White will be given ample opportunity.  I believe they will not "take the bull by the horns" and Henry will eventually be given the chance.  Hopefully, he steps up and takes the job.

Just got in for today, and I'll pop in enough to move things in this early start.   ;D

All jokes aside, we have a family emergency today, but it won't keep me out of here too much.  Heck, I made them change my birthday party (24th was the date) for this draft!  (Could you guys tell your wives you were doing that???)

As for M. Bush, with the RBs I inherited I'll take that shot.

Well, I had another pick ready and I was kid of surprised that Callie didnt take Croyle because she only has two QBs. :o  I guess Bush is a nice long term prospect.  He could be a Steven Jackson type back.

I thought Croyle was too good to pass up at 1.10.  It seems like KC really wants him to win the job.  Now I have way too many QBs if they all start so I may be in the trade market.

I love Hunt!  I am a PSU Grad. (Go Lions).  I would have no problem taking him in a points league because I think he will ultimately get the bulk of the goal line carries.

In this format you need yards AND touchdowns.  The Eagles pass more than they run and Westbrook gets most of the carries.  I also think Bulkholder will get his share. He is a good back and an injury to Westbrook would really increase his value.

Awesome pick Keith! (And a perfect fit on your team since you have Kitna)

I was ready to take him with my next pick.  With that offense he will be huge!

I almost took him instead of Croyle but I figured Croyle would get the starting job this year versus one to two years for Stanton.

Thanks PT!!  I was thinking along those lines (Lions coverage) but almost picked Kolb, but thought he may be a few years away....although I am sure Philly (Jeff) may have an opinion on that ;D

At 2.03 I was hoping to get a RC but no one jumped out at me. I do not pick again until the 5th round so I felt the odds of getting a Top 6 or 7 DU would be less than getting a serviceable RC.  Thought about 3 different units but I liked Miami's schedule a little better than the other 2. [smiley=idontknow.gif]

I think Stanton may get the starting job as early as next year.  Kolb is at least two years away and maybe three.

Miami was the best DEF available on my list.  If you wanted to go with DEF here they were the ones to take in my opinion.

I pondered taking a DU in the 2nd round before the draft and really thought no one would have taken one yet. When Philly took the Chargers I started rethinking my strategy, but came back to the conclusion that I needed a DU.

Thanks Callie. I considered him at the 1.08 (along with Brodie Croyle).

As for Kevin Kolb... I like him, but a healthy McNabb is the man for at least a couple years, and Feeley would be #2 this year.

I just checked the draft board and it looks like I'm done drafting (my last pick is 5.01) before Ray even gets to make a pick (his first is 5.10)!  :o   ;D

I needed some help at RB and regardless of what Jones will do; Washington is still the most explosive back on the Jets roster and he is a much better receiver than Jones, so I expect him to see plenty of touches this year!

Lady and Gentlemen,
I will be on line for most of the day, if the draft picks up, otherwise I will be there at 7pm, but I have to bolt for a playoff softball game (8pm).  With this Seattle like weather we had in Jersey this week, the games that were originally scheduled for Mon/Wed are now today/Monday.
I do have a Blackberry and if I could trouble someone to e-mail me/call me, I could make a pick that way.  My e-mail address is kcarroll@statestreet.com the number is 609-548-3884.  I may also e-mail a list later.
Thanks.

No apolgy needed here!  After all, this is really bonus draft time anyway.  I was more frustrated at the pace stuff was moving along, than at anyone in particular.

at 2.07... I really wanted to put the vice on Callie by grabbing a QB, but with D/STs going so quickly, I really felt I had to grab one.

If you want to you can send me a proxy pick for your 3.02 pick then I make that pick for you.  I will be checking all day as usual.

Like I said earlier..I really was only considering a defense if the Chargers were there at 2.03, but since I do not pick again until the 5th...I thought I needed to go there anyway.  ;D I don't think grabbing a Top defense is a bad choice early in a keeper draft anyways...especially with the talent being as thin as it is this year.

the thing I've learned in this league, in my short time anyway...DUs are huge.   I bet I've lost 6-8 games because of my D.   I've had my opponent beaten in skill positions by 12 points, and then had a D subtract 15 from me and I've lost!

DUs are extremely important in this format, IMO.

I know, how much does THAT suck!   ::)

But by week 8, Russell will be in, McCown will be traded/cut and Culpepper will be hurt because the raider o-line can't seem to stop Sara Lee, Pollyanna and Spongebob from getting 2 sacks each.

I figure I'll take my lumps that week, but at least it'll be over!

Well I must say I was quite surprised and happy to be able to get Berrian and Hackett at 2.05 and 3.05.

Both of these guys were protected in GBRFL.

Protecting only two WRs I was a little nervous I would have trouble get two additional decent wideouts who had upside.  Luckily I could land these two.

I think I am missing something regarding Leonard?

He is backing up Steven Jackson correct?

Title: Re: '07 GBRFL2 Draft GENERAL DISCUSSION thread
Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 24th, 2007, 6:43pm
Yes he is. He may see some touches, but unless S-Jax breaks down, which he may giving his work load, Leonard is just a safety pick.

I love the Culppper pick.  I really wanted to pick him with my last pick but I have too many QBs on my roster.  I actually debated taking him at 1.10 when I took Croyle.

I am shocked that he lasted this long and was drafted after Gerrard :o

Tony got a starting QB in round 4.  Great job!

well, 1st off....i don't think I'm "going at it" with Jim.   He didn't like my pick, and I poked fun back at him...but nothing serious.

As for the pick, well, I don't believe Lefty lasts more than 3 games as a starter.  I didn't pick him to screw you, i just liked him better as my 4th QB than Culpepper or McCown.

I think Leftwich will last the whole year, I just wanted him for insurance purposes. I gor Griese, who will get in before Garrard will.

Rob, were you looking at Troy Williamson in that area where you had 3 of 4 picks?

We will see.  Although I should tell you I just got Eagles season tickets this year.  Four seats in the second row in Section 110.  That is the South end zone.  I went in with my brother-in-law and we split the games.  I will be there in person when the Cowboys beat the Eagles.

The seats are awesome.  You are right behind the endzone.

This was, all in all, a pretty fast draft.

I'm out....going to eat dinner.

just making the point that, though the media is really hyping Stallworth and Moss...(and even though it's preaseason)...not much is going to change in NE (as you say as well).   Brady will spread it around and NE WRs are looking at 3-4 rec./game as an avg.

Tony... nice pick with Trent Edwards. I was hoping he'd go undrafted and I could grab him for the future.

Hey, dont go wishing bad things on my boy Losman.  If JP breaks out this year, Edwards will never see the field as a Bill.

This year wasn't as fun without worrying about you taking any of the "diamond in the rough" guys!

I like most of your picks (and would have definitely considered some of them, had I been picking in my normal draft spots instead of where I was)... except for Jacoby Jones. I think you could have waited MUCH longer to take him if you were that interested.

Well Huard was 5-3 as a starter with 11 td's , 1 int.  and a 98.0 passer rating. I'll take those numbers!

You cant argue with the results, but they basically dumbed down the offense because Huard can not make all the throws.  He does not have a strong arm.

To move forward, KC knows they need to replace Huard with a better QB.  For now he gives them the best chance to win.  As soon as Croyle learns to limit his turnovers, he will be the starter.  If for no other reason than they need to determine if he can be their starter.  If he cant then they will need to draft another one.  Huard is not a QB for a team that want to go deep in the playoffs.

No one can play behind a sinking O-line, especially in the AFC West.  Trust a Raider fan on that one.   ;D

I agree with MC.  It really doesn't matter who is at QB, you will not want to start either one.  I do think that Huard is better for Larry Johnson because defenses will have to give a little respect to the pass.  With Croyle in there, they would just concentrate on Johnson.

I am also worried about who will catch the ball on this team.  Gonzo and Kennison are both on the down side of their careers and Bowe is a rookie.

I would not draft any KC offensive players too early this year (except Johnson that is).

I agree...after LJ, only Bowe should go early ...and only in a keeper league!

I like Croyle long term and I still think it was a good pick.  Any first year starting QB is a risk.  It takes them a good 15 to 20 games to "get the hang of it". I was drafting Croyle and Quinn for next year not this year.  If you wait to draft a QB in the year you "need" a QB you are really playing with fire.  It is better to plan ahead.

The key to this league is getting QB's.  Only 32 put up points every week.  It is not like RB or WR where teams play multiple players.  You can laugh now, but we will see who is the better player of the next three years.  Maybe he wont pan out, but he was worth a shot.

He is completely missing the point.  The GBRFL2 league with 12 keepers is a vastly different league than most fantasy football leagues.  Our first round would be the 13 th round in a non-keeper league.

My comments were not so much directed towards the GBRFL2 draft (even though it is here on a GBRFL2 thread) as it was a general comment on fantasy football, which you , MC "got" and Tony obviously "missed".

I still think Croyle with pick 1.10 was a fine pick in the context of our GBRFL2 draft, but would not be a good pick in a non-keeper or limited keeper league because he is simply not worth starting the year even if he was the starter.  My starting QBs are Brees and Loseman.

Lets face it after Brees my QBs stink.  I need as many as I can get because I need to get lucky with one or two.  That is why I protected Brees and traded for Schaub.  Somehow, someway, I need to get another top QB.  My fingers are corssed.

I feel your pain, PT.  I inherited a team that expected Vick to rock on.  Now I'm looking at Vince Young, then Vick, Pennington, and Rattay  Who knew?

I'm still looking for trades or waiting for injuries that force  trades.  But if I understand the scoring system right, I'll manage at solid positions & eat a year or so at QB.  Hey, it's deep keeper.  You can't have it all.

If I have to do it, I'll develop my own QB corps - unless someone has a trade option that doesn't try to destroy my OTHER positions.   ;D
