Title: 2008 Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge Post by StegRock on Jan 3rd, 2008, 6:15pm Join us for the third annual "Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge" on "the Gridiron"! Here are the few details you NEED to know: 1) Scoring - Fairly simple... proportionate scoring... Correctly predicting the winner(s)...
You are also to include a TOTAL POINTS SCORED for the Super Bowl. That is how the winner of the Challenge will be determined in case of a tie/ties. Got it??? If not, just screw it! You'll see how it's done after it's tabulated. Just put your picks up and let the rest unfold... So, moving right along,... 2) Submitting your playoff predictions FIRST OFF, ONLY ONE SUBMISSION PER MEMBER!!! Only your last submission will be counted. Next, you are to submit them either to "Referee" by instant message here on "the Gridiron": (Direct Link) http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=imsend;to=Mod1; or via the following thread: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=56;action=display;num=1199402268. Your picks are DUE by the kickoff of the Wild-Card games this Saturday, January 7th!!! You are to use a format that doesn't boggle the mind, something along the lines of the following is what I suggest and since I am processing the stuff and you surely don't want me to get your picks wrong, the suggestion of the guy processing the stuff should probably be paid extra heed to (huh?): Wild-Card Round Tampa Bay over Washington New England over Jacksonville New York over Carolina Cincinnati over Pittsburgh Divisional Round Chicago over Tampa Bay Seattle over New York Denver over Cincinnati Indianapolis over New England Conference Championships Seattle over Chicago Indianapolis over Denver Super Bowl Indianapolis over Seattle (49 points total will be scored) FINALLY, another little twist following along the lines of the aforementioned twist of having points subtracted if you do not forecast the correct opponent,... for those adventurous (in one way) or should I say less adventurous (in another) souls who are willing to concede imperfection but want to hedge their bets,... a bracket that doesn't make sense based on your prior predictions may be submitted... For example: Wild-Card Weekend Jacksonville over New England Divisional Round New England over Indianapolis BUT, you can only submit one, right??? So,... I think, while you'll all find this to be an intriguing wrinkle and hedging your bets, especially given the first twist, may seem tempting, you'll ultimately find conceding to imperfection pretty hard... 3) Score Tallies will be reported every week right here on THIS thread, the administration and discussion thread. Discussions, commentary and questions are welcomed on this thread... And, here is a link to the Post-season activiities portal page: http://www.ffplayers.com/postseason.htm. |

Title: Re: 2008 Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge Post by cwhams on Jan 6th, 2008, 9:36am You are probably right Callie...at least on that particular day...on those particular plays...but the Jaguars at this particular time...I believe...are the better team (better than Steelers) and I believe the better team won the game. I have the Patriots beating the Jags next week, but I actually think the Jags are the only team capable of beating the Pats...that's assuming no changes occur due to injuries to either team. I would'nt bet on it, but they could pull the upset. ;) |

Title: Re: 2008 Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge Post by Philly on Jan 6th, 2008, 11:38pm I thought Pittsburgh was going to win the game after that missed face-mask call by Hines Ward in the endzone. You'll recall that Jax was called for PI, giving the Steelers a first down at the goal line. Fortunately, that call didn't end up determining the outcome. |

However on the same play the ref's did manage to see a hold by the center that never happened. Thusly negating the 2 pnt conversion that did effect the outcome of the game. But I'm not bitter ;) |

Title: Re: 2008 Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge Post by Callie on Jan 22nd, 2008, 9:51am In terms of penalties not called, am I the only person on the planet who saw a Pat push a guy onto his ass, in front of a ref talking to him, and way after the end of the play?? What the heck is that?? I expected to hear a lot about that. Nada is happening. Bogus. |

I saw the same thing, but it didn't seem worthy of a flag in my opinion. (This was the one following a punt or kick return, right?) |

Thanks for the work! So, the way I see it: If the Giants win the Super Bowl, then MordecaiCourage wins the contest. If the Pats win, then it will come down to the tiebreaker between cwhams and myself. Just for clarity, the tiebreaker is a case of whoever is closer, right? Not some Price is Right thing where the closest without going over wins... |

Title: Re: 2008 Playoff Portenders Pick-em Challenge Post by steelkings on Feb 5th, 2008, 9:02am OHHHHH? I get it now! You mean you are supposed to pick the games winners, not the losers? Huh? On a serious note, Isnt it interesting in the shear distain for the Patriots? Less than 1/2 of the people in the contest even had them in the final game. |
