Can anyone explain or give validity to this ruling on the football field?

Situation- Quarterback is in the pocket--Defensive player comes from behind or the side and strips the ball from the quarterback(not tackling just contact that forces a fumble)

For some reason the player gets credit for a tackle, a sack, and a forced fumble!

The forced fumble is a given but why and the hell does the player get credit for a tackle and a sack when the quarterback never even goes to the ground?

I really don't know. Would a sack without a fumble also be credited as a tackle and a sack? Getting at that sacks are just a sub-set of tackles.

I was also thinking "Does a linebacker get credit for a tackle and a forced fumble if he strips the ball from a reciever?" But he wouldn't because there would be an official tackle on the play when the linebacker was in turn tackled. Hmmm... How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

For now, I can answer this one. You guys probably already know the answer, though. It is "YES"! A "sack" is a kind of "tackle."

Well the answer to that is yes........When a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimage.....that player gets credit for a tackle and a sack.

What if the QB fumbles the ball in the backfield, recovers the ball himself, and then gets tackled behind the line of scrimmage? Does that count as a sack as well, or is the QB now considered a ball-carrier and it is just a tackle for loss?

More importantly, if a QB is tackled in the woods, and no one is there to witness it, does it count as a sack?

And First Prize goes to...........Philly.......you are correct, if the quarterback fumbles behind the line of scrimage, he now becomes the ball carrier and the tackle is not recorded as a sack, just a tackle for a loss!

The knowledge in this room is starting to scare me!
