I am a glutton for punishment!!  Too much food!!

But I tell you what, I went down to feed the less fortunate yesterday in DC.  3,000 people served.  The most amazing thing was how much they appreciated the meal we served.  They did not complain about anything.

It truly does make me appreciate the things my family has.  And how fortunate I was to live the live I have lived!   And to think I bitch about traffic, my fantasy football team, how I missed lunch, etc....  How petty!

Anyways, I hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving.

I feel that I'm one of the luckiest people who has ever lived in the history of humans.  I didn't do it.  I just got lucky.

For Thanksgiving, I hope that everyone who protects us has the best day of their lives to date and many better days to come.

Luck to us all.

Well, another year to be grateful for hath passed, and, hopefully, unlike all of your respective Thanksgiving-day meals, it's time to upchuck this old thread back up, [smiley=joker.gif] which, true story mind you, makes me reminisce about that special Thanksgiving about some 18 years ago or so when (great) aunt Ann (long gone now) threw up right at the table of the Thanksgiving-day feast. [smiley=yikes.gif] It was very white, mostly creamed onions... and bile it appeared...  Now,... off,... off!  Enjoy your mashed creamed corn and mashed sweet potatoes, fellas. :P ... :-X ... ;) ...  Anyway, we have this tradition in our (teeny-tiny and yet widely dispersed) family called "Naming of the Bird" where at the end of the meal (assuming we are all at the same table, in the same room, in the same house, at the same address, in the same town or city, in the same country,... hell,... on the same continent) we all join hands and "christen" that year's turkey with a "name".  That year, it was "Gobble Gobble Godfrey"! [smiley=laugh.gif]

...

Really, though, I want to extend a "Happy Thanksgiving" to all of my fellow Gridironers here.  Every time I visit the "(slowly but surely getting) old" site here, I am so grateful to have all of you helping me push this "effort" along and see this thing through. [smiley=touching.gif] Now, really, go enjoy some turkey [smiley=turkey.gif] AND [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] FOOTBALL!!!

Before we close this holiday of gratitude, I'd like to send a little love out to the (once) well-entrenched and well-esteemed Gridironer who started this thread way back when,... during the "genesis" chapter of "the Gridiron".  Our friend, FourTwoOh a.k.a. Kirk, as we all finally came to know, had a rough '05 to say the least.  He may not even read this, but I truly hope he is on the mend.  Not having him around the way he once was is truly a loss for us, but not having himself be the way he had been must be unfathomably trying.  I am thankful today for the fairly good health I've been granted...  I hope the same for our old friend Kirk...

Thanksgiving,... a time to give "thanks for giving", for "thanks and giving", as well as for "thanks and forgiving". :D

On my part, I am thankful for a lot, all the usual general stuff, but most of all, on a personal level, an incredible mother and wife, who let me grow into the man I want to be, and my vocation of philosophy, the conduit to that growth.

Gratitude is an attitude and way of life.  It is, however, facilitated by "having right perspective" for that is how we (come to) know what truly merits a grateful attitude.  On the other hand, when gratitude is deserved, it shouldn't be manifest only at this moment or some other.  Thank yous here and there should only be upsurges of the generous and gracious attitude one always has.  That doesn't mean you ignore the facts of the matter, lay them out on the table and encourage growth or, at least, improvement among your fellow man.  As I just stated, "perspective" is the key to cultivating graciousness.  Gratitude is a two-way street.  Mere attitude, in that ("other") pejorative sense, isn't; it is a mere one-way street and probably a dead-end one at that.

Anyway, my "thanksgiving" (with mommy) will really be celebrated as per my last message here:  http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=58;action=display;num=1037120039;start=25.  Today, Gino's working, and I'm writing papers. :-/ It's all good, though.  While it'll be nice to someday celebrate Thanksgiving on the "correct" Thursday, ;) I got a nice neighbor, Southern Baptist chap, who just knocked on my door in fact.  He is aware of our predicament today and wanted to make sure I didn't want to head on over with them to the dinner they are having at their church and also, moreover, wanted to confirm that he will be bringing some Thanksgiving dinner goodies back for Gino and me. :) The philosophers are having a get-together, too.  I'll see if I can at least drop on by.  Concerned about turkey rights discussions and tofu turkey, though. ;) ... [smiley=laugh.gif]

Happy Thanksgiving, all! [smiley=turkey.gif]

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for a wonderful mother who, within reason, is happy when I'm happy, a wonderful wife who, within reason, dreams my dreams, and, not the turkey that won't be on our table as my wife puts in a day of work at work and I put in a day of work right here, but a feisty, NO-QUIT little [smiley=ssbigbird.gif] bird that we found helpless one inclement, windy day a couple months ago that has grown into our hearts and will go on to live a very unique, unexpected life for a Bulbul bird hatched in nest somewhere around the Manoa Valley Safeway.  We didn't ask for him to begin with.  We surely didn't intend on being stuck with him.  But, boy, has this little [smiley=ssbigbird.gif] guy helped Gino and me gain a little perspective... on the "bigger picture" and "bottom line" of my life.  Heck, I have it HARD trying to convey the "bigger picture" and "bottom line" of this web site.  But, I am thankful for the five seasons (worth of experiences) I've had here.  It's been a great run, an experience from which I've learned a ton. :)

Its a thanksgiving tradition

Every year as my family gathers at my house, sometimes as many as 16 people, we men prepare for the day. I bought several cases (3) of beer. Some imported and a few cheap cases of Bud Light. The Bud Light is in the aluminum bottles. The ones that are too cold to hold with the bare hand. My brother in law will bring turkeys fully cooked and ready. There will be lots of wine and lots of snacks. The big kids will go to the basement and play Guitar Hero on the Play Station 3.  I think its up to 3 now anyway. It will be Cranked way up. Its not pleasent when they miss a note.
The adult males will do thier best to suck down all the beer. Imports first, mind you. Everyone starts to get loaded then you eat and have to start all over again. The girls will fight the entire time in the kitchen. Getting everything thats been bothering them all year off their chests. There will be several slammed doors and lots of yelling. Of course one of them will be constantly locked in the bathroom. No matter, the guys will go in the backyard and pee behind the shed. Happens every year! We wouldn't have it any other way.

To my Gridiron brothers: I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving and I hope you have a shed to pee on.

To my Gridiron sisters: Callie and Froggie, I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving as well. Beware...Dont go I my kitchen unless you want to get it all out.

How LIFE has changed for the Stegeman clan (yet again, but this time more so than ever) over the last year...  What I am thankful for is the women in my life:  my abundantly understanding and patient wife, my abundantly caring mother-in-law, my abundantly loving mother, and my abundantly CUTE baby Monica!  I only wish my father would have been here to see it all...  He'd be so proud... of IT ALL!  But, he'd be smiling at and, I suppose, he is here in a sense through my sappiness.  When it came to the holidays, he was a big sap,... a good guy.

Enjoy the parades, turkeys, cranberry sauce, and, of course, most of all, ALL the FOOTBALL, everybody!!!

Let's face it...  Thanksgiving = [smiley=turkey.gif] + [smiley=helmethead.gif]

I'm a puddle...  I'm not usually one to watch, or at least focus in on, the [smiley=turkey.gif] Macy's [smiley=strollin.gif] Thanksgiving [smiley=peasnoopy.gif] Day [smiley=elf.gif] Parade [smiley=santa.gif] (although we do have family attachments:  my mom, once a Macy's employee, was in the parade [smiley=bee.gif] back in the day), especially being a big (fantasy) football guy, but, since the Detroit-Tennessee game was lousy, and I had nothing goin' (on) in it anyway, I watched the parade a little more than usual this year.  Well, the last 15 or so minutes,... the Kermit the Frog (of whose songs I am a HUGE fan) song "I Believe", which set the touching mood (as some of you old-timers may recall, Gino and I have a Kermit song on our wedding CD), Andy Williams performing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year", which was a wonderful traditional follow-up and touching as well, and then, of course, Santa's arrival,... I watched (all alone) right in front of the TV with my baby Monica in my arms.  Suffice it to say, I was,... in a good way of course,... [smiley=bawling.gif] ...  Unbelievable, and I am probably just plugging into what you all have before, but my little daughter, in the first opportunity of her heretofore short little life to do so or not, did NOT disappoint.  I'd be lying if I told yous that, when I brought her out into the living room to watch these last 15 minutes of the parade, I didn't have a picture in my mind.  Well, she just laid in my arms, intently watching Kermit, Andy and Santa with big grins and arms a flailing and, then, looking back at me and staring into my eyes, smiling, laughing (as newborns do... with their toothless mouths) and cooing away.  I'd better stop...  I'm getting vaklempt here again... [smiley=wavinbye.gif] Great stuff... [smiley=yes.gif]

Don't know if "greater understanding" would be my choice of words (has that unthoughtful haughty, superior ring to it,... but, I digress, that sensibility toward sensitivity is a truly "greater understanding" in my world).  That having been said, for sure Baby Monica [smiley=newbie.gif] Marie has provided Gino and me with a special and particular kind of "experience" that adds to the richness of life in a wonderful way that was unimaginable before.  For that and that alone, setting aside ALL the other good fortune 2009 has bestowed upon us, most notably SIUC, I am GREATLY thankful.  I hope that spirit of thanksgiving finds you all,... and your fantasy [smiley=helmethead.gif] teams give you a little something more to be thankful about. ;)

With the girls still away, I'm on my lonesome to start Thanksgiving day here today.  It stands as a stark reminder of what I am thankful about (oh, and, using the word "stark" there reminds me of my free-agent pickup for the week in the GBRFL, James Starks, another thing to be thankful about ;)).  I do have plans for dinner later this evening with a few friends, one of them being Dr. James Downhour of the Center for Dewey Studies, where I worked last year for my assistantship, and for whom I'll be serving as the best man at his wedding next summer, something else for which I am very thankful (to have the experience of in this life).  Also, probably with it in mind that I am alone this year, I woke up to a very nice Thanksgiving message from my good old friend known here as Chili D., a.k.a. Allen Nelson.  And, then, there are also the GBRFLers in general, the generosity of whom keep this site afloat.  I am thankful for thoughtful friends... and people in general. :)

All the best to you and yours on this day of football, [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] turkey, [smiley=turkey.gif] and, most of all, gratitude! [smiley=bow.gif]

Most of you, back on the mainland, especially on the east coast, have already, probably had your Thanksgiving meals and gatherings.  It is still early here.  We will be sitting down to our Thanksgiving supper here soon.  With that said, I wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving [smiley=turkey.gif] and start to the Christmas [smiley=santa.gif] season!

Favorite holiday of the year even if my beloved Hawaii is not the ideal place to celebrate it.  That said, I am thankful to Hawaii for serving as the home for my family for, all in all, over a decade now. :)

(I am also thankful to Kenny Golladay for his performance here during the first game. ;D)

Well, this has been a pretty awful year for the country, one that indeed serves to undermine the very meaning trying to be conveyed by Thanksgiving and in so doing take the fun out of the holiday, and for my family it has been a year FULL of challenges over which we have thus far triumphed[smiley=dodged.gif]but only really by toughing it out and not giving up. [smiley=tough.gif]  There were times this year when I have been as down and out as I have ever been (May 10th-11th), but (May 14th came and) we made it, and I am VERY THANKFUL. [smiley=pray.gif]

Happy [smiley=turkey.gif] Thanksgiving to all you all who all these years later still drop by "the Gridiron"!!![smiley=touching.gif]

Happy Thanksgiving to anybody who still wanders through the old neighborhood here! [smiley=strollin.gif] I am thankful for those who do! [smiley=wave.gif]   Mind you, I am also thankful to those that inhabited this joint way back when and helped me get FantasyFootballer.com, at least in its initial iteration, off the ground. [smiley=letsmakeup.gif]  FYI, there are things brewing in the wings here on "the Gridiron", which very well may start to come to fruition in 2023. [smiley=wiseguy.gif]

But, that is then.  This is now...  I continue to be very thankful to have such a wonderful, supportive wife and daughter, who too merit my support and understanding. [smiley=smitten.gif]

As for these here parts, I am also very thankful for the league that comprises the very basis of this website, the GBRFL (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl), which is now in its 30th (THIRTIETH) YEAR, [smiley=ohshit.gif] and its OUTSTANDING group of HIGHLY ACTIVE participants... despite my, at times, love-hate relationship with (each of) them (down through the years)! [smiley=slap.gif]  The GBRFL would not be what it is without them, for sure. [smiley=yes.gif]  It would just be this lone nutbag here winning the league every year over his nine balloons with faces drawn on them in a mental hospital. [smiley=gonecrazy.gif]  I am thankful for each and every one of them!
