Title: Steg, avatar question for ya

Prolly something I should already know, but are animated gifs as avatars allowed here?

Sure!  Though, I have to admit I was never really keen on paulinstl's "'Kermit the Frog' givin' it to some dude (I can't recall whom right now) from behind" animated GIF.  Point is, no avatar, pic displayed in a signature or graphic used in a message should cross acceptable bounds of taste.  That one was right on the border.  And, yes, Steggie appointed himself here [smiley=policeman.gif] and [smiley=king.gif] on that. [smiley=tonguin.gif]

Now, if you are talking about donating some to me [smiley=awwgee.gif] that I would upload to our avatar or smiley database, the only other concern would be size.  Animated or otherwise, heavy graphics make for heavy web pages that require mucho bandwidtho, and since this is already a "graphically-heavy" site, "full-featured" as some like to say [smiley=awwgee.gif] , which I want to keep that way,... well, you get the picture I am painting, I hope.

In any event, thanks for being courteous and asking, my cannabis-lovin' friend! [smiley=bow.gif]

I said I make the calls 'round here, >:( and (with a lisp and a limp wrist) that one isn't tasteless.  It's just tasty! [smiley=lickinmychops.gif] And, it's my masterpiece, the work of my loins! [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]

Thanks. Yeah, I'll keep 'em small and  tasteful. Feel free to grab any of them you care to. I don't have a huge amount, but am always adding unusual and/or cannabis related ones.

That eye is awesome.  Perfect counterpoint to Joy division coming through my speakers here at work.

Wow... people still listen to Joy Division?  That was a group who I thought I'd never hear again.

That first went up on another board, as it's banner. The face is/was CM...T's, who if you follow the gekk board begs to be moderator where ever he go's.  ;D That was one hell of a NO!  [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]

I'm sure plenty of people here had no clue as to who it was, but, definately, just thinking about it brings a grin every time. I can definately see it as more of an adult content gif though.

Good times, good times.

I've been in a 80s rediscovery mode lately musically.   Th Cure, Pixies, Depeche Mode, Violent Femmes, New Order / Joy Division, and even ::ashamed:: Prince.

One of the cool things about being home with the baby for 2 weeks was I got to see every episode of "I Love the 80s" on VH1.  Wow... talk about bringing back my teenage years.

The Cure is probably still my all-time favorite group.  I never really listened to Joy Division much, but was a huge New Order fan.

My step-brother and I are only 9 months apart and kind of had an unspoken agreement that we would stay out of one anothers way.  Therefore he was the "alternative" music guy and I was the classic rock guy during the 80s.  So for me all these great bands I bypassed in my youth are wonderful rediscoveries now.  I am just sad that I waited so long to look into them.

Personally I think Joy Division is freaking awesome - but I love moody depressing music.  They sound like a precursor to everyone from U2 to NIN to Nirvana.

This whole music conversation is SO IRONIC given something I have been working on for "the Bleachers"! ;) Great precursor! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] You wouldn't even know! :) Just keep thinking about and discussing (right here is fine) your favorite music/songs, fellas!  Really hone in on some of your "PERSONAL" all-time favorites! I can talk music all day.

My personal holy trinity of music is Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails, and Radiohead.  All head music that is crafted - almost symphonic in nature and epic in scope compared to most 3 minute pop tunes.

My favorite band is without a doubt The Smashing Pumpkins, R.I.P.  I never met anyone that likes them as much as I do... for me, it just doesn't get any better. They can rock your ears off and sing you to sleep... awesome versatility. Corgan wears his heart on his sleeve and his lyrics hit home. A fan of the Pumpkins is a friend of mine, no questions asked. I'm also a huge fan of Stone Temple Pilots, Alice and Chains and Red Hot Chili Peppers... all those "grunge" bands from the 90's. Dave Matthews Band kicks ass and I was brought up on the Beatles. I consider myself a master of name that tune from the 80's.

Yo bgsgfan, you ever listen to Manic Street Preachers? Really depressing shit, but I love it. Can't go wrong with Travis or Coldplay either...

My favorite band nobody has ever heard of is Del Amitri. Justine Curie is a fantastic song writer. I highly reccomend them.

Never listened to MSP - will download some and check it out.  Travis and Coldplay are OK, but, IMHO, after Radiohead the whole Britpop scene just seems....well, OK.

Grunge also is OK - gotta say that I like Pearl Jam better than any of the bands you listed (but they really aren't grunge IMHO).  The Pumpkins are damn good too - my personal fav song of theirs (I forget the title) goes, "The world is a vampire", but everything from Siamese Dream and Melon Collie is good.  I especially like them because their albums are more than just a collection of songs.

The song is called Bullet with Butterfly Wings... I have a live version that kicks ass.[smiley=headbanger.gif]

If you're going to check out MSP, start with their song called "Black Dog on my Shoulder" or "The Everlasting"... my favorites. Keep in mind, you have to be in a cetain "mood" to appreciate them. Enjoy.

Giving Manic a listen at work, therefore only getting a handle on the overall mood.  It reminds me a lot of Flaming Lips and Spiritualized - both of which I like.

I guess there's no hip-hop fans around here.  ::)

I'm all over the genre range. I listen to rock, techno, hip-hop and jazz.

Currently in my CD Player/Stereo:

Metallica- St. Anger
Canibus - Mic Club: The Curriculum
Killer Mike - Monster
Dead Prez- Let's Get Free

That band name sounds very familiar... did they have a radio hit a while back?

Del Amitri... They sing that song, "Don't let me be the last to know". They also have another song that I really liked back in the day... I think it's called "Downfall".
