Title: IMPORTANT: Help your admin! How many of you... Post by StegRock on Jul 11th, 2003, 3:16pm ...have your screen resolutions set to 800 X 600 (or lower) or work on laptops that only provide a lower-resolution display? I am in the process of doing a bit of a makeover, mainly to the secondary pages like "the Gridiron Newsstand" and the "Fantasy Articles" pages. Viewing them, particularly "the Newsstand" in a lower screen resolution throws things out of whack. I just want to get an idea about how I want to approach this. On that note, let me ask you all this. Would you prefer it if the "the REAL Feed" were available separate from (the rest of) "the Gridiron Newsstand" with links between the two rather than how it is set up now ALL on one page? Guys, a note, PLEASE answer only these specific, targeted questions. I am asking them specifically for a reason. This is what I am working on. This is what I have time to tackle. This is not a case where I am looking for new, innovative ideas that I may or may not be able to reasonably accomplish time-wise or money-wise. Keep in mind that your responses equate to work for me and/or money I will spend. As such, right now on this thread, I just want the answers to the questions above. They will help me determine what direction I will go in with regards to the specific tasks I am able to take on right now. Thank you for your anticipated understanding and compliance! Title: Re: IMPORTANT: Help your admin! How many of you. Post by Cirrinone on Jul 11th, 2003, 3:24pm Hey Steg, I personally have mine on a 1024x768 so mine is no problem. But making it viewable in the right manner for all resolutions is an excellent idea. As for the second question, I would prefer it all on one page the way it is now; I really like that setup. |

Title: Re: IMPORTANT: Help your admin! How many of you. Post by Philly on Jul 11th, 2003, 3:47pm I use 1024x768 as well, but I know from doing some work with websites in the past, the standard is 800x600. Lots of people still use that size. Anyway, for the REAL Feed and the Newsstand, I like them together on the same page, but I'd play around with a smaller font for the Newsstand links. I think it is more impressive seeing all the different links instead of just seeing a few. The index at the top does nothing for me. Furthermore, I think if you named each of the sources (i.e., New York Post, NY Times, Newark Star Ledger -- instead of NY Giants 1, NY Giants 2, etc.) it would be more effective. Also, to conserve space, maybe just use the headline from the REAL Feed instead of the source and the date and, sometimes, the blurb under the headline. Now get right on it... no dilly-dallying. ::) j/k Just some ideas... |

Title: Re: IMPORTANT: Help your admin! How many of you. Post by Walker Boh on Jul 11th, 2003, 9:53pm 1. My screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768 2. I personally have no problem with the way it's setup now, but The REAL Feed is a great feature and may deserve its own page |

Title: Re: IMPORTANT: Help your admin! How many of you. Post by Cirrinone on Jul 11th, 2003, 10:04pm Steg, sometimes errors like that can be the the text size the specific viewer has his internet explorer set to. If you go to View, then Text Size, Medium works great on 99% of websites. Maybe there's some way someone has their text set to larger and it takes up more space and throws the whole Real Feed page out of whack? I'm not positive, just an idea... ??? |

Case in point if you follow, Phil! Can't please everybody all the time! Anyway, like DD, I actually prefer an 800 X 600 resolution, as well, but since most people these days seem to use 1024 X 768 and I am a web developer of sorts, I have been using that. In any event, it is along the lines of that preference for a "lower" resolution and bigger appearance of screen objects that causes me to typically use bigger fonts (on web pages I am 100% responsible for creating). I am more concerned about eye strain than with a little extra scrolling or whatever else smaller fonts may bring to the table. [smiley=shrug.gif] In any event, the issue at hand has been taken care of! Our "Fantasy Articles" page and "the Gridiron Newsstand"/"The REAL Feed" are all "cleaned up", well, at least the next evolutionary step in the formative process has been taken. [smiley=bow.gif] |
