I do think that the NFL has some responsibility here, or should I say, has to (step up and) take responsibility here. I know back in college if someone had left one of our fraternity parties, a "party" environment comparable to a football game, at least vis-a-vis a restaurant or even your usual bar/pub, and got into an accident, ATO, Alpha Tau Omega that is, heads would have been rolling. They'd have shut our fraternity house's doors before we'd have even been able to retieve our bongs... I mean books. [smiley=whistle.gif] Bartenders at bars are even supposed to stop serving overly drunken patrons. Ultimately, drinking at NFL games is/can easily become excessive and uncontrolled,... uncontrollable. That's a problem, and no one, all the way from the beer man to Paul Tagliabue, is taking the high-road here. Everybody's just hiding and taking the low-road. Can't they at least just turn the taps off right after halftime, giving people a little time to sober-up, or just limit the amount of beer sold based on attendance [i]or something. [smiley=shrug.gif]

I think , again, the cash cow needs to spend a little. At 5.25 a beer they could hire people who deal with alcohol professionally every day. Here in Indy any youth group adult volenteer can serve beer for fund raising. I sudgest full time bartenders to go along with the full time officials. But dont get me started on that again. I know that I am in the minority of this world but I believe in PERSONAL responsibilty. It is the responsiblity of that individual and possible his friends and the beer sellers.

I think this family is a bunch of get rich junkies and the tide will turn. To sue the NFL is crazy. Maybe I can live with the stadium being sued. It is just another case of a..holes going for the deepest pockets.

I won't even say what i want to happen.

All I know is money won't buy them a "back to normal" family member.

Noey, on the news or whatever, did you see these people's daughter and hear the story through? If so, you might find yourself a little reluctant to call them a "bunch of get rich junkies". Hardly the case, a nice family who was returning from a day picking pumpkins with their ADORABLE 2-year-old daughter, pictures of "earlier" that day and all. VERY TOUCHING! And, evidently GOOD people, solid citizens! Living in the area, it was on our local news. Anyway, there is a fine line between personal responsibility and social responsibility. Even the way you state things, you can see that it's blurry. Social responsibility is part of the equation of personal responsibility, no? [smiley=shrug.gif]

Steg I agree. that is why I stated the stadium and vedors and friends responsible. However, I think don't let emotions get in the way there are lots of stories like this one.
I just feel in my opinion that sueing the NFL is taking it to far and it makes them look like they are after the money.

If I had an infinite amount of money to spend on my entertainment. It would be free beer nite at Fenway park this evening.

So let's say that GM is the official vehicle sponsor of the NFL. (Most of the players drive Escalades or Hummers, so it probably is GM.) Anyway, their commercials all show people driving, often in an unsafe manner. Does that mean that the NFL should be held responsible for accidents in those vehicles?

I don't think it is possible for the vendors to keep track of how many beers a person has had (especially if they start tailgating before the game in an off-site parking lot). I think the teams (I don't think the NFL can officially make this happen) are doing their part by cutting off beer sales in the third quarter. Ultimately, it needs to be personal responsibility.

While the accident was a terrible tragedy, and the drunk driver should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (and even more so), I don't think the NFL, or even the teams (stadium owners, vendors, etc.) should be held liable in this case.

Perfectly stated. There is no real way to make something large be responsible. Maybe they should sue the parents of the guy for not raising a socially responsible child.

This is the reason I beleive in the death penalty. Make people personally responsible and free society's burden axe some of these people.

Sorry just had to say it..................there are too many idiots that drive drunk and hurt people or chance it....stricter punishment is needed than 1 night in jail and a 500 dollar fine.
