Title: Coaches Corner - Spurrier Resigns
Post by Philly on Dec 30th, 2003, 2:03pm
Steve Spurrier, despite all of his posturing of late, resigned today with three years still left on his contract.

Here's the lowdown from the REAL FEED and the Gridiron Newsstand...

Spurrier joins Dan Reeves, Jim Fassel, Dave McGinnis, Gregg Williams, and Dick Jauron as former NFL coaches.

Interestingly, Ted Cottrell was also fired as Jets Def. Coordinator.  Look for him to get some consideration (or at least some interviews) as a head coach.

OK, so it looks like only 7 of the coaches are gone.

Reeves, Fassel, Jauron, Spurrier, Callahan, Williams, and McGinnis.  I didn't think Wannstedt would make the cut since he failed to make the play-offs, but he's still there.

Anyway, I was looking at the coaching candidates...  interesting how Romeo Crennel, Ted Cottrell, Lovie Smith, Art Shell, Ray Rhodes, Dennis Green, and Johnnie Lynn are showing up on interview lists.  Does anyone think any of them have a legitimate shot at a coaching position, or is it just a dog-and-pony show to make the NFL happy?

I think Dennis Green is the only one of the bunch that has a real shot at a position right now.
