With all due respect to cp and his Vikes, I really don't dig the league's plan to review the "forced out of bounds" receiving rule. Steve Smith's catch last night, though not nearly as impacting as the Cardinals' play, fanned the fire. Everybody plays by the same rules. It is one thing if the refs get the call wrong, but it drives me crazy when teams complain about otherwise reasonable rules that have a reason for being in place because they did not get the job done themselves. If this rule is changed, it could really negatively affect the way receivers end up getting "defended" on sideline passes, i.e., play his body and not the ball when close to the sidelines. All it will ultimately do is shift the (potential) controversy, i.e., hypothetically, someday a play will happen when the old "forced out of bounds" rule would have produced a "better" (more clear-cut) result/call. Bottom line, this is not a bad rule. Don't change it!

If they change the rule then there will be some serious consequences. WRs will be taking a major risk for CBs will know all they have to do is knock the guy out of bounds & he will have saved a TD.

I wouldn't mind seeing the rule changed to require receivers to only have one foot inbounds (along with possession of course) to complete a catch.

I know this doesn't directly address the issue of a player being forced out of bounds, but it is a middle road of sorts considering Nathan Poole was able to get one foot in before being pushed out of bounds in Arizona's win over Minnesota.
