As Atlanta wipes the egg from their faces from the MAJOR fuckup called Joe Gibbs, will name Mora Jr next head Coach.
Atlanta really screwed the pooch here boys. Gibbs was a minority owner and consultant for the Falcons for 2-3 years now. Atlanta never even called him for input on the next head coaching candidates, much less ask him if he was interested. A HUGE mistake!
Snyder is laughing his silly lil' head off. And just when we all thought that ARI was the worst managed Franchise in the league. These BUNGHOLES let one of thier own leave.
Thank goodness I'm not an ATL FAN! I would start routing for another team and demand the NFL find a new owner ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next target, Snyder's ego. Will he let Gibbs do his job. At least the Spurrier experiment is over. With any luck for the Redskins, it'll be like the Davis/Madden days for the Raiders. Madden always said that it was a mistake to try to please Al. The best thing to do was to argue with Al. Al LOVED to argue. Wish Madden were younger and hungry again.....Wonder if Gibbs is still up to it. We'll see.

Any idea how Atlanta fans are reacting? Jim Mora Jr. wouldn't excite me too much. Then again, do Falcons fans even care?

On the surface, this appears to be a terrible move... Mora, Jr.? Are you kidding me? Here's my thought: Without knowing the numbers, I'd think that Gibbs' (experienced, Super Bowl winning) price tag would be significantly higher than Mora's (young and unproven). By signing a first time head coach instead of a more expensive, experienced guy, they free up a lot more money for FA or rookie signings. If I were an Atlanta fan, I'd be much happier with Mora, Jr. and (insert big time FA or Stud Prospect here) then Gibbs and (insert average player here). Who knows, Mora could be a great head coach and Gibbs could be washed up...

If this coaching move enables Atlanta to make a big time acquisition, I think they made the right decision. After all, you can have the greatest coach in the world, but if you don't have the players to back him up, you end up like Dallas did this year (if you're lucky).

I'm not sure what the deal is with the Falcons ownership... are they strapped for cash-on-hand? Because the salary cap has no relevance to the argument you made above, Jamie (because coaching salaries are not considered part of the salary cap - the owners can pay them as much as they want (can afford) to).

So, unless the Falcons would have given Gibbs a monster signing bonus (which I don't believe is done with coaches, is it?), then the salary of the coach shouldn't make any difference because the salary cap money is based on TV revenues, which are the same for every team under the revenue sharing program.

I'm not trying to trash your theory, Jamie. Just trying to make sure I understand it completely.

Jim Mora, Jr. in Atlanta... Who knows? Could work out! There have been stranger hirings that have and bigger name hirings that haven't. [smiley=shrug.gif]

In any event, whatever might have been reported by the sports news media aside, Gibbs was not really an option in Atlanta. His heart was... is, always will be in Redskinland. It was just a matter of Snyder's being willing to agree to stay back. The money's just frosting on the cake.

What about the rumors about T. Owens thinking about the Falcons? Will the 9ers franchise him? What about Price. Gods honest truth, these are very interesting aspects.
