Title: "'the Gridiron' Game Room"
Post by StegRock on Jan 14th, 2004, 11:38pm
I just played the "Checkers" game in our game room.  Unlike most of the games in there, pretty damn easy!

Anyway, via "the Gridiron Game Room (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)", I was wondering if any of you guys would be interested in participating in any offseason "Scrabble", "Chess" and/or "Tetris" tournaments (the "Crossword - Scrabble" game and "Chess - Mano-on-Mano" can be played head-to-head and the "Tetris - Classic" game saves high scores).  If so, SIGN UP HERE!  Let's see what we can muster up for when the dead of the offseason hits. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Full game room link:  http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games!

Count me in! Name the game, and I'll beat you (unless I lose).

I'm always up for a game of Scrabble, although I'm not sure there's much competition here since I've already dispatched Steg and WalkerBoh twice, the second time with very little effort.

The Checkers are pretty easy.

I also love the Browser Soccer.  I've gotten to the championship round, but haven't won yet.

I LOVE SCRABBLE!!!

I am in!

I'm going to set up a game of Scrabble for me, Walker Boh, Barnaby Wilde, and Dirk Diggler.  Should be a good one!

The rules for the tournament...

1) Bonus spaces (like double word score, etc.) only get credited to the first person who uses them.  (Keep this in mind as you have to calculate your own scores.)

2) You may use any reference materials you want to look up words prior to your turn, but if the word is NOT in the online dictionary on the scrabble page, then it is not acceptable.

3) Have fun.  Emails have been sent with your passwords for the game.

OK... I get 0 for my first turn... I got NO vowels at all.  Kind of hard to make a word that way.

Jamie, you're up.

Just a little free press for FantasyFootballer.com!  I am currently sitting atop the high scores on the "Flashteroids" game in "the Gridiron Gameroom":

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games;game=flashteroids! [smiley=woohoo.gif]

I am listed as "FantasyFootballer.com"!

It is one of the games that is externally hosted, so others out there in cyber space just may stumble across our domain.  Keep this technique in mind for the future, fellas! ;D

The "Gridiron Game Room (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)" just got a HUGE infusion...  18 MORE PHAT games NOW on tap!  Moreover, they are games hosted by NovelGames.com, which also hosts our "Flashteroids" and "Cup Stack" games.  THIS MEANS more games for us to "backdoor-market" on by way of high scores. ;) Just name yourself one of our (short) domain names, FFPlayers.com, FFFanatics.com, FFYI.com, FFPro.com, FFInsiders.com, FFForum.com or FFHuddle.com, and then go get a "High Score"! :D

Most of all, guys and gals, ENJOY IT ALL! [smiley=dancin.gif] ... [smiley=bow.gif]

Post by StegRock on Mar 30th, 2004, 11:34pm
Of the newly-added games, though I haven't played them all yet, I am REALLY into, though not in all cases really good at:

Hovercraft Racer (totally fun, but only so-so at it)
Disc Battle
Space Invasion (very good at this as per the post immediately above)

I also like:

Arkanoid
Battleship Flash
Ghost Attack (another one I find particularly fun, but haven't played enough)
Mouse and Cat (great, but I'm starting to have problems with my mouse, my "actual" computer's mouse (boy, this is confusing), which makes this game unfun)
Santa's Christmas Eve Scramble (another really fun one that I haven't played enough)
Simon On-line (ditto... again)

...

Also, a question,...  If you have played them both, which of the air hockey games, Air Hockey or Disc Battle, do you think is better?  Just curious! :)

Title: Re: Gridiron Game Room...  Offseason tournaments!?
Post by Philly on Mar 31st, 2004, 6:59am
Of the Air Hockey games, I prefer Disc Battle.  It seems to play smoother and (somewhat) more realistically.  Although I'm not sure I understand how the scores are determined.  I think it has something to do with margin of victory.  I won one game 15 to 2 and had a higher score than when I won 17 to 11.

I am still trying to beat that matchstick game.  Unfortunately the computer does not always recognize a successful solving if it doesn't match the one it expects.

I don't like the Space Invasion game because I can barely see the purple bombs they drop on my computer screen.

This is too funny.  I play Wordsmith (a hangman game) as a little break at work now and then.  (It's in the Gridiron Game Room!)  Anyway, the high score list always has someone named "deb" all over it.  I guess she plays it all the time and hogs the high scores.  Looks like someone got upset at her and put some derogatory remarks or something and she, apparently, has fired back.  So there is a war going on on the high score list.  And there is poor little me "FFpro.com   Philly" sitting in the midst of it all.

Lookin' to grow "the Gridiron Game Room (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)" during the '05 offseason, guys and gals, and would love you all's input!  I am looking to add 10 to 20 or so games.  I welcome games for a diversity of sites.  I did, however, stumble across the following one that gives you a plethora to choose from:

http://www.miniclips.com/Downloads.htm.

So, step up, take advantage of a site admin who is welcoming your input here (ladies, you may take "advantage" of me in other ways too [smiley=boobies.gif][smiley=pimpin.gif][smiley=titflash.gif] ... ;)), tell me what you like (eh-hem [smiley=whistle.gif]) and let your thoughts make a "real" difference on the site. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Really, I look forward to you all's input.  Thanks in advance! [smiley=bow.gif]

The Darts game (Bullseye) was fun, but nearly impossible to end.  Will take some practice, but was pretty realistic.

I tried the Basketball game and couldn't sink a basket.  :(

The soccer game (Free Kicks) was OK, but was really just an ad for a Euro betting site.

Shock Bowl was easier than real bowling.  Finally broke 200 in a game (first try no less).

Boom Boom Volleyball was difficult to figure out.  Would have liked to get to level five to play "topless" mode.  ;D

....I'll check out more later.

Hey, guys!  If you all haven't noticed, I have added a TON of games to our "Gridiron Gameroom (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)", all flash or javascript games.  The former are mostly action games; the latter, logic games for the most part.  Some AWESOME [smiley=lickinmychops.gif] stuff... only the best of the best (and I sifted through a ton)... + some special personal selections!  I know it's just a peripheral area of the site, but it's one I am becoming quite proud of. :D

With the fantasy draft season upon us, the "Gridiron Gameroom (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)" is a great place to pass time while you are involved in on-line drafts taking place in "the Gridiron Chatroom (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=&action=chatnow&job=login)", on a league message board, "between the 20's" or elsewhere on the net.  Some of the games are multi-player games so you can get together with some of your fellow drafters or whomever and play.  Getting a game of "Crossword-Scrabble (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games;game=crossword)", "Chess (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games;game=chessperl)" or "Battleship (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games;game=battleships)", just to name a few, going with someone you are in an on-line draft with would be awesome, I think!  In any event, it is there for you all.  Put it to good use... and ENJOY!!! The offseason's a comin'...  Play away, my friends...  We'll see if we can't get some tourneys goin' this offseason... for some original "the Gridiron@FantasyFootballer.com" t-shirts or something... ;D

Title: Re: "'the Gridiron' Game Room"
Post by StegRock on Dec 19th, 2005, 12:30am
Just starting to do some prep work and put out some feelers for the offseason...

I'm thinking about doing some arcade-game tourneys this offseason for original "the Gridiron @FantasyFootballer.com" t-shirts (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/t-shirt.htm)... [smiley=wiseguy.gif] ... [smiley=havinablast.gif], which sell like hotcakes, mind you... ::) ... [smiley=joker.gif]

It would be possible to structure a one-day tournament for any of the games in our "Game Room (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)" that maintain a (daily) high score like, for example, "Triple Tetris (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games;game=triptet)", and, of course, "Chess - Mano-on-Mano (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games;game=chessperl)" and "Crossword - Scrabble (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games;game=crossword)" can be done anytime over time.

What do you guys think?  And, what games from our "Game Room (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)" here would YOU like to see a t-shirt tourny conducted for this offseason?

Just a fun heads-up for yous...  I just wanted to make sure you all knew that our interactive games, "Crossword - Scrabble" and "Chess - Mano-on-Mano", are really attracting a CROWD these days.  If you haven't yet dropped on by to see what all the noise is about, I highly suggest you do,... and now is the time as we are in the dark, dank, barren depths of frigid offseason hell.  So, here are direct links to each of those games:

Chess - Mano-on-Mano

Would have preferred this asked by private message!  I know you only "mean" well, MC, but what if after the MONTH AND A HALF I've spent on this HUGE project of searching for and configuring games for the site, this wasn't one of them?  I surely can't, at this stage of the ballgame at least, get into the business of taking personal requests.  There are a TON of AWESOME games going to be added.  This one you're mentioning may or may not be one of them. [smiley=wiseguy.gif] But, in any event, posts like this give me that "give an inch, they'll take a yard" type feeling,... which I hate like merry-go-rounds...  Anyway, it's ALL coming soon!!! :)

MC, there is no "standard" of behavior here, except that I challenge people to put their thinking-caps on (and see the "bigger picture") before posting...  There could be a time when replying right here might be just fine... like one of the many times I've asked for requests like on June 9th when I was just beginning this project...  The point is that it depends on the "circumstances".  Right at this moment, I am trying to wrap this thing up (if it wasn't obvious).  This is a HUGE job, on a peripheral facet of the site, mind you.  This is not just adding links to a site.  It's integrating them into the site.  I started this on June 11th (look at the posts).  It's been "in process" ever since.  Point being, I'm really just asking for some consideration and thoughtfulness [smiley=thinking.gif] of where the old Stegger is with this and for the according common courtesy to be shown.  For me to meet individual requests at this point is,... well,... a hassle... :P and a bit frustrating [smiley=frustrated.gif] given that I asked for them back on June 9th and NOBODY replied.  (Might your request now be part (and parcel) of subsequent events that is causing the delay right now?  You followin' me at all... [smiley=shrug.gif])  At this point, I thought, based on the nature of my posts of late, that I wasn't asking for requests anymore.  My posts immediately above (since June 11th) are evidently no longer eliciting them... [smiley=shrug.gif] I'm just a bit tired right now, MC,... and it's like someone just handed me another job to do (because I want to be so accomodating (which is why I asked for requests on June 9th))... when I thought I was almost done... :-/

Okay,... boyz... the uploading hath begun...  You will (be able to) witness "the Gridiron Game Room (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?action=games)" growing before your eyes... :o It will take, I would estimate, about 90 to 120 minutes 'til every last thing is uploaded, but, again, if you head on over there and hit the refresh/reload button every so often, you'll see it happenin' piece-by-piece, game-by-game (which is kind of neat, I think).  And, there is a way yous can be of help to me, by the way.  If you notice anything whacky about the games list page, the links or the little teasers, or any of the games' pages or games themselves, give me a heads up...  I'm "asking for it", ;) so feel free to post right here about those kind of technical issues (so we all can be kind of working together on it)...  Anyway, ENJOY the show! [smiley=threed.gif] I will follow this up with some commentary about a few of the games that are absolutely AMAZING!!! [smiley=jawdroppin.gif] GET READY!!! [smiley=havinablast.gif]

Well, boyz and girlz, the job's complete,... finally.  I ran into a few snafus, and I've been working on this, minus just a couple hours, ever since... [smiley=yawn.gif] I'm bleary-eyed to say the least.

In any case, when you're wanting to pass some time during drafts, mock drafts or just hangin' on "the Gridiron", you've got one of the best game rooms on the internet to hang out in, as I humbly see it...  It's as easy as "1, 2, 3" from now on when you're looking for some video games to pass some time with given the "123" games I've just added! [smiley=ohshit.gif] I went out and found the best of the best,... the best games from the best resources! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif]

Here are some particular games that I want to apprise you guys of...

There are a handful of Flash-based games the names of which are "Flash (blah, blah, blah)", like "Flash Pacman"...  Well,... that and the "Flash Asteroids, Frogger, Space Invaders and Tetris" games are INCREDIBLE!!!  You will think you have been transported back in time 10, 15, 20 years to an arcade.  You will be looking for the coin insert on your computer...  No kidding!  These versions are EXACT replicas of the originals!!!

Also, there are two javascript games that are UNBELIEVABLE!!!  I mean,... in fact,... the "Tetris - Classic" game that's done in javascript is probably my favorite of all the Tetris games we have...  BUT, these two games that I'm talking about here that I just added take javascript programming to a WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL!!!  I mean,... you're gonna think you're playin' high-end flash games when you queue up these two.  They are the "DHTML Lemmings" game and the "Super Maryo World" game.  UNREAL... on any platform,... but with javascript,... NO WAY!!!

Anyway, those are just some of the highlights...  A couple of my personal favorites are the "Tron Light Cycle" game and the "Helicopter" game,... VERY addictive.

ENJOY!  ENJOY!  ENJOY!  With these additions, I really feel we have one of the GREATEST game rooms on the internet.  We got A LOT, but NOT too much,... only the best of the best (of course, that is coming from a wide perspective,... best as in old-school, minimalist, etc., too).  The point is that I did this "selectively".

Well, over [smiley=tired.gif] and out [smiley=sleepers.gif] kids!

Oh, and by the way,... MC,... [smiley=fireman.gif] you got your "Surfs Up" game!  Enjoy hangin' 10 on "the Gridiron", bro!!! [smiley=surfing.gif]
