I know we aren't known to dabble in other sports here on "the Gridiron".  I like to keep things around here focused on the task at hand.  However, as I explained in "the Bleachers", I thought sanctioning an NCAA Hoops challenge here on "the Gridiron", given it's popularity and short duration, would be cool and not inappropriate.  It's a way for us to have a little fun together in March, the deadest of the dead of the NFL offseason.

Oh yeah!  St. Joe's got a #1 seed and a bracket that they can succeed in!  Glad to see the seeding committee did their homework.

Now what's the deal with Billy Packer?  The Hawks just accomplished something amazing by getting a number one seed, the student body, and most of the Philadelphia region (Villanova excluded) is euphoric, and Billy Packer has to rain on their parade...?  He sounded like he was personally hurt by the fact that the Hawk was seeded number one over a bigger program.  Geez, get over it already.  Like Dickie V. said it would be great to see St. Joe's and Gonzaga battle it out for the National Championship, but they'll have to settle for a battle in the final four.

Congrats to the Hawks.  But seeding means very little in college hoops.  Now they have to prove they belong among the elite.  BTW I hate Billy Packer & he makes everyone watching uncomfortable.  I think Bill Raftery is far more entertaining & just as informative.  If we're doing a gridiron pool on yahoo I don't wanna give away my picks prior to the tourney tip off so I'll hold off on that.  

I think the committee did a better job than usual, but there were some questionable seeds.  Wisc a 6?  The chairman flat out said they couldn't use the Big Ten Title game in their decision b/c of time constraints. lol Imagine if that's the system being utilized in MLB?  My Red Sox would be in the World Series. :)

Ah who am I kidding.  The curse will always live on.  Okay I'm veering off the subject I know.  But I think what the committee clearly did to "save their ass" was give WI home court in Milwaukee which in turn screws Pitt the most of all. The Panthers went from a potential #1 to a #3 on the road to a school that went UNDEFEATED at home.  They have 10 guys working on these brackets.  You mean to tell me they couldn't come up with multiple brackets that would reflect different scenarios?  

I have no life & I came up with projections of my own.  I had 63 of 65.  The only big differences were Maryland getting such a high seed & the previously mentioned Wisc gettting such a low seed.  The only school with a legitimate gripe to be in the tourney was Utah St.

I agree with you on that BW.  But St. Joe's should make it to the Elite 8 or the Sweet Sixteen at the very least.

I'm in also & in case anyone didnt know I'm the Waltham Wackers  I love the potential for at least 2 ACC schools getting to the Final 4.  I'm also high on Conf USA & the Big East.  I'm not so high on the SEC even though they also got 6 bids.

I guess that is one of the good AND bad things about the NCAA tournament.  Day games are great.  I love being able to turn on the TV at noon on a weekday and watch 12 hours of action.

The bad part is that I'm working those days and won't be able to catch those exciting games that happen early.  I'll have to try to find an ESPN radio station that I can pull in from my office or go online and just catch the scores.

St. Joe's plays around 3:00 PM today, so I'll miss that entire game.  :(

Taquan Dean, who has LIT IT UP here in the first half for Louisville, is Doug Owens's cousin.  Doug, a very old best bud of mine, is in the GBRFL!  Anyway, I thought that was pretty "close to home", so I thought I would let you all know.

Well, the first round is in the books and it looks like it will be a close one all the way to the finish.  KJ76 is hurting with two of the teams he picked to go deep into the tournament eliminated already.  The mystery Pigeon also lost one of his deep teams, but everyone else looks like they are in a solid position to make some noise.  Should be an interesting one.

Well, that's that for that.  I'm done.  I should have known I was asking for bad luck by having to root for "ZAGS"! [smiley=no.gif] ... [smiley=flipoffangrily.gif] ... [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif]

Anyway, no second guesses or regrets...  We weren't playing for any stakes here, just for fun, and I picked a team that I thought could go all the way AND that I could genuinely cheer for.  Now, I'll be pulling for St. Joe's and/or any other "David" teams.  I REALLY hope that a team like St. Joe's does win it this year because I think it will be GREAT for NCAA Division I basketball overall.  It will give SO MANY more schools hope and perhaps change the landscape and start making it so (almost) EVERY NCAA Division I team can believe they have a chance and, more importantly, run their programs accordingly.  Given the nature of basketball, for one, that it only requires five starters, and its manifestation on the college level, I believe that such is possible in college basketball; I don't think it feasible is in college football.

Anyway, good luck to the rest of you!  I hope you all continue to have fun with it. [smiley=bow.gif]

I've got Duke & OK St still but so do a lot of others including bgsgfan who has all 4 of his left.  So safe to say that I am out.  I did several other online brackets & the one I did for TSN I had UAB over KY.  :)  I should have never trusted Stanford.  West coast schools always seem to blow it early in the tourney.

Even though I am only sitting at ninth, I have to be happy that only Chili and I have our final four still active.

Anyone else see that pass by the UAB player?[smiley=jawdroppin.gif]  Absolutely amazing!  I recorded it and made everyone here watch it.  Kind of reinforces the idea of twin ESP.

Biggest disappointment this year is that there have been a lot of buzzer losers (as opposed to buzzer beaters).

This is the first time I have correctly picked the Final Four, so I should be ecstatic.  I have to admit that during the games I found myself rooting for both St. Joe's and Xavier, so my enthusiasm is tempered a bit.

As of right now, I see Connecticut winning it all in the finals against OSU.

It was heart-breaking to watch St. Joe's lose the other night.  I figured this was as far as they were going to get, but when Pat Carroll hit the three-pointer to put the Hawk up near the end of the game, I thought St. Joe's was going to win.   :'(

I just checked my bracket and there are a LOT of red lines on it.  I hung in there for a bit, but lost too many key teams.   :(

For what it's worth, I have 31 out of 32 possible points in the East (aka East Rutherford) Region.  No one can boast a better region than that one.  I only missed the Charlotte-Texas Tech game in the first round.   :-/
