Title: Tribute to Reggie White Post by StegRock on Dec 26th, 2004, 1:37pm What a great player. What a greater man. A wonderful ambassador of faith. What a shame. Only 43-years-old. Very, very sad,... especially during the holidays, the Christian holiday... holy day of Christmas as it would concern him. I wish the best to his family. This is surely a loss to them, the NFL and us. |

Title: Re: Tribute to Reggie White Post by Philly on Dec 26th, 2004, 10:38pm This was certainly a shocker. I was one of the biggest fans of the Minister of Defense when he was wreaking havoc as part of the tremendous Eagles defenses under Buddy Ryan. What was really interesting to learn was how much he changed after leaving football. |

According to Andrea Kremer (who had talked to him as recently as last week), he went for about 4 years without even attending church. According to Ray Didinger (NFL Films and HoF Philly Journalist) he had recently taken up the study of Hebrew with a young scholar (via phone) in Israel so he could read the original text of the Bible and make his own interpretation of it. He read the Bible and always took the literal translation as gospel. He realized that much of what he was doing was accepting the translations of others as fact and was, therefore, undermining his own faith. I'm sure more of this will come out in the near future, but it was intriguing nonetheless. |

Title: Re: Tribute to Reggie White Post by StegRock on Dec 27th, 2004, 7:59pm Okay,... I finally saw the report to which you are referring. I don't know... From all that I have seen over the past 36 or so hours and from what (relatively little) I knew of and know about the man, I would say that it was not as much a "fundamental" or "paradigmatic" change as a "procedural" or "scholastic" (big-time irony in the usage of that word there) one. I have a lot more to say on this, actually. But, I am going to save that for later and let the tribute to Reggie, which is what this thread is ultimately for, continue. |
