Title: Active Players Worthy of Enshrinement??? Post by Philly on Jan 10th, 2005, 1:04pm I had a debate with a friend of mine over the weekend and I thought it would be an interesting idea to post here. So, here it is... Which active NFL players have accomplished enough at this point in their careers to merit enshrinement in the Hall of Fame were they to retire today? |

Title: Re: Active Players Worthy of Enshrinement??? Post by Philly on Jan 10th, 2005, 2:04pm QB: Brett Favre - #3 in passing yards. SB winner. #2 in TD passes. Peyton Manning - Debatable. But I think this season sealed the deal. He's top 20 already in passing TDs and has more yards than Bradshaw, Stabler, Blanda, Namath, etc. RB: Emmitt Smith - Is there really any question here? Jerome Bettis - Top 5 all time rushing yards. Curtis Martin - Also top 5 in rushing yards. Marshall Faulk - Injuries hampered him, otherwise he'd have better stats. Has won the big one. WR: Jerry Rice - There is no debate. Period. Tim Brown - Second all time in yards, 100 TD catches. Isaac Bruce - Productivity AND longevity. Marvin Harrison - Already top 10 in catches and TDs, 15th in yards. Jimmy Smith - On the bubble. His numbers are fantastic, except for the scores. TE: Tony Gonzalez - Tied for second in TDs, third in catches, fourth in yards. OL: Larry Allen - Anchor of Cowboys dominant OL for years. Kevin Mawae - 6-time Pro Bowl selection at C. Jonathan Ogden - Pro Bowler every year except rookie. SB winner. Willie Roaf - 10-time Pro Bowler. Will Shields - 9-time Pro Bowler. DL: Warren Sapp - 7-time Pro Bowler. SB winner. Michael Strahan - 6-time Pro Bowler. SB winner. Single-season sack leader. LB: Derrick Brooks - 8-time Pro Bowler. SB winner. Ray Lewis - 5-time Pro Bowler. SB winner. Junior Seau - 11 Pro Bowls. Zach Thomas - Borderline. 4-time Pro Bowler. DB: John Lynch - 5-time Pro Bowler. SB winner. Aeneas Williams - 8-time Pro Bowl selection. SB winner. Darren Woodson - 5-time Pro Bowler. SB winner. K: Morten Andersen - #2 all time NFL scorer. Gary Anderson - #1 all time NFL scorer. P: Sean Landeta - 20 years, never had a punt blocked. Still productive. |

Title: Re: Active Players Worthy of Enshrinement??? Post by Philly on Jan 12th, 2005, 8:53am No one wants to challenge any of the players I listed? I thought I was being very generous with some of them, especially when I finished the post and saw how long the list was. Did I miss anyone that should be there? |

Philly-- Hard to challenge most of these guys. I would happen to say that the kickers and punters are NOT going to get in. If Ray Guy is not in the hall, Landeta is not going to get in. Hell, Guy has a college award named after him and yet he is not in. As far as the other kickers, I would not hold my breath for them. THe list of NFL talent going in the next few years is incredible. Doubt they would waste the spot of kickers. As far as the other players, I think all of them have a shot to get in over time. Most of them are NOT first time ballots or sure locks. I would like to revisit this after the season. As of now, I am a nervous wreck concerning the Eagles Falcons game tomorrow. |
