Title: Football Commercials
Post by StegRock on Mar 11th, 2005, 5:50pm
Brian Urlacher is in (a version of) this commercial.  I know...  It's tenuous.  But, at least I attempted to justify my posting this here on "the Sidelines" and not in "the Bleachers". ;D

So, anyways, do you guys know this Nike commercial with the demonic-sounding [smiley=evil.gif] music in the background and all the dudes getting some wild, scary head gear fitting their persona or something in, what comes to my mind, Hellraiser-type fashion?  It seems like the commercial affects many in a visceral and negative way.  I've been with a couple dudes now that, when that commercial came on, they were like, "I HATE that commercial."  When I ask why, they just say that it's dumb.  It's like it just irks them.  ...  I don't know... [smiley=idontknow.gif] I kind of like it!  Brings out the "Pinhead" in me!  ...  No, Mr. O'Reilly, bless your dear heart, I mean a different "Pinhead", the (long "e", capital "P") Pinhead. [smiley=Freddie.gif] Okay, that's Freddie, but you guys get the point.  So, what do you guys think... or not (think, that is)?

Yes, I like that commercial too. It also has LaDanian Tomlinson and Big Ben, and the baseball guys are Torii Hunter, Albert Pujols and Mariano Rivera. Very cool add!

I'm fairly neutral on the commercial.  It doesn't move me much one way or the other.  My wife, on the other hand, really likes it.  [smiley=idontknow.gif]

I'm not a big fan of it.  In fact, I dislike it.  I think it is either pointless or wrong-headed.  If there is nothing intelligible about it, which is quite possible, it is pointless.  If you want to say that it brings out the warrior-aspect of sports players (or something like that), then it's wrongheaded.  Sports players, as sports players, are not warriors any more than anyone else, and certainly less than the real warriors -- soldiers.  It's just exaggerated "macho-ism," I think.

I think its weird, creative, different, eye-catching & fantastical.
In fact, one of my Insane football team names in limbo last seasoning was going to be the Nostrailian SnotKnockers.
I was going to design a helmet for my team that had a iron-cast protruding nose in place of a face mask; a huge capillary-blood-shot eye-ball as an emblem and to top it off - a mohawk of extremely long nose hairs on the very top of the crown where usually, a team colored stripe would streak vertically across and downward.

So perhaps, my opinion is somewhat partial and creatively connected for that very reason [smiley=bonghit.gif] [smiley=gonecrazy.gif]

Correction,

thats BEEoria, KILLinois babe-bee.

But back to the topic of his thread,

WHICH helmet/outfit on the commercial was the best/most creative?
And which was the worst/least creative?

Have you guys seen that ESPN Fantasy Football commercial where Reggie Bush and his boys are doing their fantasy draft???  The guy with the first pick leans over to Reggie and says that he's going to take L.J. with the first pick.  Reggie replies in disappointment, saying something like how lame it is that he got cheated out of being the #1 pick in the NFL Draft and now the same thing is going to happen in his fantasy league...  So, his friend, feeling guilty, announces Bush as the first pick, and within the drop of a hat, Bush announces pick #2, L.J., saying how stupid of a pick "he" was at #1. [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif] [smiley=LMFAO.gif] Gotta love it!!! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif]

Not a great portrayal of the hobby, in my estimation.

C'mon Philster  ::) ...... if you can't infuse some humor into your "hobby"  then you may need to see a psychiatrist.

Yea,... while I see whence you are coming, Phil, the slimy part of the hobby on exhibition, it is for the sake of a REALLY good joke, and, like any good joke, what's funny about it is precisely that it's a hyperbolic representation of what does (unfortunately) go on in the hobby (and, moreover, in life).  I think it's comedic genius.  I got a good laugh out of it.
