Title: New York Stadium & 2010 Super Bowl Plans
Post by StegRock on Mar 27th, 2005, 4:58pm
... there are major obstacles ahead.  Here are relevant articles:

About New York getting the 2010 Super Bowl and the overall picture -
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2018902;

About the stadium "situation" -
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2020441.

I personally just don't know about this.  Once again, it is [smiley=dog.gif]-"New Jersey is good... for me to poop on."  I am (obviously) all for remembering 9/11 and the fact that New York was our greatest victim along with DC.  But, the Big Apple has bigger fruit to dry!  The economy is weak.  They're closing schools, fire houses, etc., and yet discussing the building of a sports complex downtown (on the west side).  I understand the counter-arguments about the project's bringing in jobs and such and the team's bringing in significant revenue in the long run, but what about East Rutherford, NJ and the fantastic (though old and needing-to-be-brought-up-to-date) sports complex there.  If they do go ahead with the stadium project, I just hope they give New Jersey the Giants (even though I hate them).  That won't happen, though, even though it would be the equitable, fair thing to do.

I would be interested to hear some of the takes of some other New Yorkers and New Jersians and any other interested parties.

Situation regarding the west-side stadium "on ice" [smiley=cold.gif] in one sense, not "on ice" [smiley=onice.gif] in another.  From "The REAL Feed":

Pataki postpones West Side stadium vote (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/wires/05/18/2020.ap.fbn.jets.stadium.0255/index.html)

Pataki, a big proponent of the idea of building the new stadium, backing down...  What does it mean?

Vote tomorrow.  Here's the latest from "The REAL Feed":

State funding scheduled for Monday vote by Associated Press

I am watching the news right now.  They say reports coming out of London indicate that New York is likely out of the running for the 2012 Olympics.  It is claimed that a favorable decision regarding the 2012 Olympics could go a long way to the stadium project's approval.  So, if you are for the Jets move to mid-town Manhattan, this is bad news.

Giants now willing to help keep the Jets back on the west side of the river.  The idea is to together build a new facility at the Meadowlands.  From "The REAL Feed":

Giants willing to discuss co-ownership of new stadium with Jets (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/wires/06/07/2020.ap.fbn.giants.stadium.jets.0414/index.html)
SI.com: NFL (07.06.2005 19:14)

Can just one of them be given to New Jersey?  That's all I ask. [smiley=annoyed.gif]
