Now he can put me to sleep on Sunday nights instead of Monday nights.  Madden is another "jumped the shark" candidate, in my opinion.

I enjoy Madden, for the most part...'though I will be the first to admit that he's nowhere near as good as he was 15 or 20 years ago. I would like to see some "new blood" in the broadcast booth for MNF, but NOT along the lines of Dennis Miller, what a FIASCO that was!!!
I'm more upset about MNF's move from ABC to ESPN, but that probably has more to do with tradition than anything else.

It's sad, but there aren't really any good color guys out there.  I can't think of any that I really enjoy listening to.

Just PLEASE don't stick us with Theismann or Esiason...I would definitely turn down the sound and turn up the radio!!!!!!!

Wow!  You guys are REALLY passionate about this.  Funny...  I like most of them.  I really like Madden still.  He's sincere.  That's most important.  I also like Esiason and Theisman.  Dennis Miller was just a misfit.  I really like his show on CNBC, though.  ...  You guys are just a bunch of "commentator haters"! :D

Madden's schtick is old now.  Every game it's the same thing.  And, while I'm sure Madden knows the game as well as anyone, even today, he misses too many things for my liking.

Theismann is a bit too full of himself, although I actually don't mind Paul McGuire.  I think McGuire blends humor and analysis nicely.  He also picks up some of the little details that even experienced football viewers will miss.

Esiason is OK, but he's not as good as Phil Simms.  Phil Simms is good, but he has NO personality.

Actually, my favorite football analyst is an in-studio guy - NFL Network's Lincoln Kennedy.  He's very intelligent and understands the game well.  I also like Howie Long, but not when he's working with the other clowns - they bring him down to their level too easily.

The world needs another Howard Cosell.  I was just old enough towards the end of his career to see how brilliant he really was.

How funny?  Simms comes off like such a jerk.  I don't dispute his usually NFL-intelligent commentary, but he treats Greg Gumble, who I think is a hell of a sports commentator, like shit.  There are times he is SO demeaning to Gumble.  He all too often points out how Gumble has "never worn the pads".  I got news for ya, Phil (Simms that is), you may have been a professional football player, but Gumble has been a professional sports commentator and analyst for a hell of a lot longer than you have, pal, and, believe it or not, there are skills, knowledge and savvy that comes along with that, too.  You don't see Gumble bandying that about... :-/

I guess it's all about how much you can separate the person from the personal.  I don't do that well because I think one is integrally related to, a reflection of the other.  Furthermore, I actually think this division of the person (his "actions" as opposed to his "being") in modern America is a serious problem (worth noting that the origins of which can largely be found in 19th century (atheistic) European, especially German, philosophy).

I HATE PHIL SIMMS!!!!  He is an arrogant jerk who has his tongue stuck up his own ass.  He is in love with himself.  When I played.......

And then, He goes on passionately babbling about something that is so friggin obvious.  And he is the high and mighty whenever there is an opportunity for calling out a player.

And then, there is the love affair he has with Parcells. Anytime he can mention how great he Parcells is does.

Maybe I need to clarify... when I said that Phil Simms is good, I meant he knows his stuff and teaches me new things (which impresses me because I know quite a bit already).  When I said he had NO personality I meant he had no personality that was by any means likeable.
