Title: 49er lineman collapses and dies after game Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 21st, 2005, 9:18am San Francisco offensive lineman Thomas Herrion collapsed in the locker room and died Sunday morning, shortly after the 49ers played the Denver Broncos in a preseason game. He was on the field for the Niners last drive before the game ended, then collapsed and was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead 3 hours later. What a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to this young man's family. Title: Re: 49er lineman collapses and dies after game Post by Referee on Aug 21st, 2005, 5:13pm [offtopic]Very sad story that definitely merits acknowledgment and perhaps further discussion/commentary on "the Sidelines". That's where it will be moved.[/offtopic] |

Title: Re: 49er lineman collapses and dies after game Post by Callie on Aug 22nd, 2005, 6:29pm There is speculation that he had a heart attack. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2005/08/22/MNGJKEBB251.DTL Also, I can't find the link again, but at the end of The Lord's Prayer in the locker room he fell over, looked like he was in some sort of seisure, then didn't move. I read that and cried. Sorry for the edit, but I forgot to mention that the article I read first said that he did not use performance enhancing drugs. He didn't even take asprin for a headache. He meditated. |

Title: Re: 49er lineman collapses and dies after game Post by Callie on Aug 22nd, 2005, 10:03pm I found the link: "Herrion was winded when he came off the field Saturday night, but not noticeably more than the other players after the 49ers closed the game with a 14-play, 91-yard scoring drive. After the touchdown, Herrion approached Guy McIntyre, a former 49ers lineman who now works in the front office, for an impromptu job review. 'How was that coach?' Herrion asked. 'That was good,' McIntyre told him. Herrion then went for a quick hit from the oxygen mask on the sideline. And after the final horn he bounded off the field, smiling and waving to fans. In the locker room, Nolan gave the team two minutes to cool off before he made a brief speech in the middle of the room. The players then knelt for the Lord's Prayer. At the final words, Herrion collapsed. 'It looked like a seizure,' Carpenter said. 'But he didn't move at all anymore. He was just laying there.'
