Title: Super Bowl Game-day update
Post by StegRock on Feb 5th, 2006, 8:22am
Hey, fellas, I've been just a bit bogged down as of late...  It is 3:15 a.m. on Saturday night --> Sunday morning and I just finished... [smiley=RIF.gif] ... [smiley=howtoput.gif] ...  argh!!!  Anyway, I have been TOTALLY out of the loop here the week leading up to the big game later today...  I'm hittin' the hay here now. [smiley=tired.gif] ... [smiley=sleepers.gif] BUT, I'd really appreciate it if you guys would use this thread to give me (and whomever else) the lowdown and bring me up to speed on "Super Bowl Week".  It would be great if I could wake up to some pithy reports on the week's news and hype. [smiley=yes.gif] ... [smiley=lickinmychops.gif]

(This thread may also be used for general game-day and in-game discussion, as well!!!)

Thanks (I hope) in advance! :)

Steg--

You have missed NOTHING major.  It has been an extremely quiet week.

I guess the two minor things are Jeremy Stevens said something minor and Joey Porter opened his loud mouth.  However, compared to previous years jawings this was minor.

The second thing is that Polamalu(or however you spell is) was listed as probable with an ankle injury.  Yes, that is how slow it got.  Someone listed as probable became a story.

That is a week as a whole.

The other stories were Detroit was not that bad a host.  Weather was decent all week,  except today when they expect 5-9 inches.

And,

If you visit Detroit and want good all nude strippers, Cuban cigars, and legal protitution, go to Windsor, Canada which is a hop skip and a jump from Detroit.

Thank you, Double D!  From the dearth of responses, I am guessing (hoping) things must have been really slow.  I had heard about the Stevens/Porter thing.  VERY tame as you say.  Gots to get me up to Windsor, though, huh? ;)

Anyway, perhaps this thread will still get catch some tread for its (above-stated) alternative purpose of "general in-game discussion"... :)

YIKES!  While I love the idea of introducing all of the prior Super Bowl MVP's, what was up that camera work?  The timing got all off.  I mean... how could something so simple get that botched?  ...  Well,... I'm looking forward to seeing how well they do with player intros...

Justice... after that officiating debacle on Seattle's last series when they probably should have just had the ball at the one, Seattle gets the fumble call overturned when, mind you, Hasselbeck did just fumble the ball.  The "contact" was practically incidental, for goodness sake.  I feel a little better, though.  The officiating on that last series, beginning with the hold call and ending with a bizarre illegal blocking call on Hasselbeck acting as a defender, really had me down.

Not quite a "true classic"... though it could have been.  It ended up more like... "eh".

I agree. This game did nothing for me, nothing like the last two.

Didn't they!! All around an unmemorable SB unless your team was in it.

C'mon, there were some good commercials...

Bud Light's ad team did a nice job. The magic fridge, the bear attack, and employee motivation...  I also liked the two Ameriquest ads - the one on the plane and the one with the dead fly.  And how can we forget the FedEx one?

As for the game itself... how did those two teams actually get to the Super Bowl?  Those were the best teams from each conference this year?  Yecch.

JOEY PORTER
"They said a sixth seed can't do it. They said we were out when we started [the playoffs] in Cincinnati. We faced all the adversity you can face. We faced the No. 3 offense [in Denver], the No. 2 offense [in Cincinnati], the No. 1 offense [in Indianapolis]. Everything we did was the hard route.

"When they talk about Super Bowl champions, Super Bowl XL always has to be remembered. They got to put us up there with the best. The way we did it has never been done before."

The defence gave up 62 points in 4 playoff games against those 4 offences. ( I think Seattle had the NO#1 Offence in the NFC) I had no problem with the game. It was beautiful.

Ps. The Black and Gold only lose 1 starter on the defence. Prepare to be board again during next years Super Bowl! [smiley=towelwave.gif]
