Time to honor our troops serving us and doing the duty they volunteered to take on...  God bless them!  God bless America! [smiley=patriot.gif] Pray for their families, their safe return, and their ultimate victory! [smiley=pray.gif] And, be thankful for those who, for the sake of making America and the world a safer place, the former of which they have surely succeeding in doing, have sacrificed their bodies and, in the case of some, made the ultimate sacrifice...

Honor them by loving and enjoying your families and friends this extended weekend, cherishing how their presence makes your life richer and understanding how their presence must be protected from those who want to take it away.  So, fire up them there "q's" and down some dogs and burgers and revel in and preserve our American brand of camaraderie.

I would be curious to know if any of our Gridironers are current military members or veterans. I, myself served in the Air Force from '84 - '89.  [smiley=patriot.gif] Happy Memorial Day to you all!

I know one of our old, beloved friends and gridironers, FourTwoOh, had also been in the Air Force.  He was a truck driver and had a stroke last year behind the wheel of his big rig.  We don't see him around here much anymore.  He's only contacted us the one time, almost a year ago now, to let us know about the accident and that he did not have (good) use of the left side of his body.  He was one of the originals here, and he surely had "the Gridiron" spirit and his spirit is surely still a part of what "the Gridiron" is today.

Thank you SK......but it was pretty easy to serve during peacetime. It is the men and women who serve during trying times like these who deserve the round of applause.  [smiley=clap.gif] I am almost embarrassed  [smiley=blush.gif] to receive any kudos for serving my country when in the presence of wartime veterans. My contribution, though significant in it's own right, pales in comparison to these wartime heros!! Thank you just the same for your thoughtful salute!  :)

This Memorial Day will mean a little extra to ole MC this year. Ya' see, my parents were both Korean War vets, and though my father passed away in '91, my mother died this past December 10th. She always loved this weekend more than any other as she made the rounds to the VA hospitals to sit with her fellow vets, and trips to local cemetaries to place flags. She served active duty in the NAVY as a Radioman and volunteered much of her lifetime serving the needs of local disabled veterans. Mom always went the extra mile for her fellow servicemen and women who needed the extra care. God Bless you mom (and dad) for serving your country. Mom and dad lie beneath a beautiful mature willow in a section of a local cemetary appropriately called "The Field Of Honor"
