Title: Trash Talk Thread Post by T-Rave on Oct 22nd, 2006, 11:58am Well, guys, here's how it stands. The GBRFL2 guys have a trash talk thread, so why shouldn't we have one? I realize I am the upstart rookie here, and that perhaps I'm being brazen, but isn't a fantasy football league primarily about having an outlet for masculine tendencies, e.g., competitiveness, trash-talking, etc.? Besides, having got off to an extraordinarily good and admittedly lucky start, I just HAVE to give all y'all HELL about it. I mean, c'mon, the rook is 9-1. (Furthermore, if I don't give you hell now, i probably won't have the opportunity to do it later, in other words, this streak probably won't last, so carpe diem.) As my first official trash-talking, verbal-diarrhetic, gleeful one-uppance, albeit one that is a little toned down (I don't want to be TOO ridiculous) I would like to point out that I picked up the Jacksonville defense late in the draft and that that has carried my team. Say what you will about the "importance" or "value" of running backs or quarterbacks -- a solid defense can wipe out your opponent's qb AND rb points in one single blow. So all you guys with 10 or 35 or whatever running backs (Warner) and 8 or 50 or whatever quarterbacks (Parsons) can now rest in peace knowing that my Jacksonville defense will completely eradicate any advantage your stacked team has (an advantage of sheer numbers [smiley=clap.gif]) by wiping off from the face of the planet all your production points [smiley=downthetubes.gif]. It's not StegRock bad yet, but it's bad. So I actually thought Ronnie Brown would do better this year (maybe 1100 yards, 9 tds). Jesse Chatman and Cam Cameron have other ideas, it seems. Another game, another crappy performance by Ronnie Brown. Fred Taylor and Deuce McAllister might just lay down, die, and GIVE the starting positions to MJD and Reggie Bush, respectively. What a shitty performance by my RBs this week; it's just BARELY possible that I reached 100 total yards (and 0 tds) with my RBs this week. |

In week one, my Philly Defense played not too bad, it's just that my opponents had defenses that had ridiculously good weeks (they were playing Atlanta and some other wreck of a team). So I don't think I'd pick up the San Fran D in place of the Philly D. ;D Yeah, San Fran hasn't been bad -- 17 points a game, a few turnovers each week -- but they haven't played any offense that's rollin'. Besides, we all know that my trash-talkin your San Fran pick only happened because you previously trash talked a pick that was, in the eyes of the rest of us, a better pick than the San Fran pick. Had you not started the trash talkin, your San Fran pick probably would have slid on by with only the usual ribbing. ;) |

Now i need a better DEF and to avoid the injury bug of the last few years. I don't think my team is a bottom dweller anymore...no lottery pick!!! yeah!! In short my team looks and IS a hell of alot better at the end of week 3 than it was at the end of week 1 and to me that GREAT! Hence the name "BLIND SUIRRELS"!! I will be very happy not being in the bottom 1/2 of the league this year. Next year looking for a plaque. |

I know that sounds contradictory to what I just said about preferring to have Harrison on my team, but given the fact that neither of these guys is doing much I would give them both such a low trade value that distinguishing them would be difficult. |

However, I have always thought Ginn has pretty good upside and in our keeper league, has a brighter future and more of a chance to be kept. |

Regarding the YPR bonus, here's how close that is... If Westbrook has the receiving stats he has had in three of the four games he's played, 3-for-8, 3-for-14 or 9-for-91, he loses the bonus. In fact, if he were to go 3 for 8, not only would he lose the bonus, but he would lose the category to me, i.e. the points would reverse; 3-for-14, and he would lose the category insofar as it would be a dead tie. The only receiving stat line that would maintain the bonus for Frank would be Westbrook's 2-for-17 two weeks ago. Of course, a 2-point conversion would throw a bone into things. There was hope back in Week 5, when I was in second place, but the fantasy football gods had other ideas, it seems. I have lost both my #2 and #3 running backs for the year. RB was the only position I was consistently winning, until I lost Leon Washington, at which point it was good some weeks and bad others. Now it's just bad, with Ronnie Brown out for the season (not to mention picking up Owen Daniels only to have him get a season-ending injury that very week). ::) :-/ I have officially become the second-most popular team in the league, the foremost popular team being Trout's team ("popular" being here defined as "most-desired-to-meet-every-week"). I submitted Brees instead of Brady, becasue I have Brees in my other league. I fucked up, maybe Cassell plays well enough that the limit the damage. The rest of my team may be strong enough to overcome this mistake. Besides I play Steg and Feder this week, so at least it wasn't Bohrer or Pak. At least I got another WR off waivers. that is just what I needed...another WR!! LOL |

Witten was somewhat of an afterthought. But, at least, to the degree that he becomes a focal point of analysis of the trade the analysis is fallacious. I had to make major cuts based on the trade. He did not value Witten too highly, but he did value him. It was more just replenishment for the receiver he added into the deal to get the deal done. Note that this deal involved virtually NO haggling. He offered it to me earlier in the week and stuck by the offer later in the week when I found myself coming back to him, and during that second phone call we literally cut the deal in like less than three minutes. No bullshit splitting of hairs. I know I am speaking for Mark here, but I think my representation is veracious and very accurate. That's why I'm willing to lay it out here for all to read. If Mark does chime in, I am confident that he will corroborate my reporting of the facts. Now, bringing this around full-circle back to Joe, Hasselbeck versus, say, Cassel, advantage Hass; McFadden and Bush versus, say, Donald Brown and Choice, a wash; Jennings versus, say, Boldin, another wash, BUT could you imagine how NOWHERE an offer of, say, (a healthy) Benson (let's say a week ago or a week or two from now... if his injury status even really matters), a bump up from Grant mind you, and, say, Witten or Tony Gonzalez for Cassel, Brown, Choice and Boldin would go!?!? It wouldn't even get off the ground. I know. Much less offers with Joe don't. Frankly speaking, the same stands for Warner (I'm sorry, Steve, but, to be fair here, you emphatically turned down a similar, in fact a bit better of a deal than the one I made with Mark). THAT, and nothing else such as background "gossip" or divergent player evaluation, the former begging the question and the latter a fallacy, is prohibitive of making big deals! Joe, you often "randomly" say to dudes that you like so-and-so top player. But, you don't really go after them. It's like, when you say to me that you like Benson, I'm supposed to put together the deal that gets him to you, which is a waste of time (this is where I think Feder is legitimized in being fed up even though his expression of it is lame) because deals like the aforesaid just don't go anywhere with you. You'd try to substitute like Garcon or Lance Moore for Boldin as well as get into seeking an advantage by playing the needly, never-ending draft pick game, which always results in "unhappy customers". I am going to speak for myself here, but I think I speak for a bunch of the guys when I say that I prefer to begin trade talks with a legit deal and spend as little time as possible tweaking it. It's just about making it match up, i.e. to halves of a whole. I don't like starting with some bogus deal that greatly favors me that I then hope I can "bulldog" through but that doesn't make it all the way to being fair for my trading partner, at which point I, of course, if I were you, won't cut the deal. :-/ |

Meachem is a guy that has no trade value, but guys would like to have on their team, per my conversation with Travis. Since I traded my STUD WR Boldin away, I split the difference by starting Garcon and Harvin in different games. I am sold on Vernon Davis though...and Sidney Rice...and Percy Harvin....and now Meachem and Garcon. Vincent Jackson, not so much on, He just flat out sucks. Oh by the way does any other team in this league have 6 Top 30 WRs on tehre team...this is of course after trading yet another top 15 WR away for a top 10 RB. I think not!!! I also had a few owners last week tell me to keep up the trash talk because they find it funny as hell, and the site is "BORING" without it. They told me to keep it up and not worry about what other guys think. So if my BLIND SQUIRRELS can find 4 top 30 WRs off of the waiver wire then you all can kiss my ass. Don't get pissy becasue I got them and you didn't. That's ok, these guys will be available fro trade during the offseason. Oh yeah, and in regards to the Danny...annoying thing...I get it. I knew I won DEF and receiving but he won rushing and had like 700 yards and 5 TD passing. If Rodgers had 1 TD instead of 3, he would have won passing. In that case, I thought it would be close but I did not calculate fumbles, averages, bonuses or anything like that. The whole extended Week 17 thing makes total sense when it comes to players, but not really defenses. In fact, it could easily be argued that playing a defense in the playoffs is a dangerous move, and the deeper the more dangerous. Comes down to Shonn Greene v. Matt Forte (I am up by 10 yards going in and we are tied with 0 TDs). DeShaun Jackson probably won't get enough yards to matter, but we are tied in receiving TDs right now, so a Jackson TD would be big for Pak (as would one by Greene). |

Here comes Timmay with no pro experience getting all the accolades, praise and attention - things Elway has gotten here for more than 25 years. Elway didn't draft Tebow so he's really not Elway's guy. Although at this point, I don't think it matters anymore. Tebow is now tied to the Broncos, unless they completely implode and lose out. I just don't think that will happen. Regardless of Tebow's talents and his abilities, his marketing/branding influence on the team has absolutely exploded. Elway cannot move him or try to bury him now - the two are tied together for the immediate future. Again, unless the Broncos somehow find a way to lose out. On the radio this morning, one of the hosts mentioned that it felt like a majority of the San Diego crowd was cheering for Denver/Tebow, something they couldn't remember since the Broncos run of the late 90's. During the game, there was a mention of Denver getting so much national attention and new fans because of Tebow. Finally, there is a rumor that the Bronco game vs. NE will be moved to the Sunday night game in a couple of weeks. All this points to Tebow being the QB of the foreseeable future. Now, if Elway would just get off his ass and show Timmay some technique, I think everyone would be happier in the long-run. |

On my side of the deal, I used the 1.2 for Eddie Lacey. 1.8 for Zac Stacey. Colston is having a down year I will acknowledge. But Tannehill is having a better than decent year. 8 games, 2000 yards and 11 TDs. In summary, I sure am disappointed I did not listen to Danny. I sure miss not having 2 players on my team who are not playing!! |
