I bought several cases (3) of beer. Some imported and a few cheap cases of Bud Light. The Bud Light is in the aluminum bottles. The ones that are too cold to hold with the bare hand. My brother in law will bring turkeys fully cooked and ready. There will be lots of wine and lots of snacks. The big kids will go to the basement and play Guitar Hero on the Play Station 3. I think its up to 3 now anyway. It will be Cranked way up. Its not pleasent when they miss a note. The adult males will do thier best to suck down all the beer. Imports first, mind you. Everyone starts to get loaded then you eat and have to start all over again. The girls will fight the entire time in the kitchen. Getting everything thats been bothering them all year off their chests. There will be several slammed doors and lots of yelling. Of course one of them will be constantly locked in the bathroom. No matter, the guys will go in the backyard and pee behind the shed. Happens every year! We wouldn't have it any other way. To my Gridiron brothers: I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving and I hope you have a shed to pee on. To my Gridiron sisters: Callie and Froggie, I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving as well. Beware...Dont go I my kitchen unless you want to get it all out. |
| No way. I'd be in the drinking-a-beer-in-front-of-the-TV crowd.

How LIFE has changed for the Stegeman clan (yet again, but this time more so than ever) over the last year... What I am thankful for is the women in my life: my abundantly understanding and patient wife, my abundantly caring mother-in-law, my abundantly loving mother, and my abundantly CUTE baby Monica! I only wish my father would have been here to see it all... He'd be so proud... of IT ALL! But, he'd be smiling at and, I suppose, he is here in a sense through my sappiness. When it came to the holidays, he was a big sap,... a good guy. Enjoy the parades, turkeys, cranberry sauce, and, of course, most of all, ALL the FOOTBALL, everybody!!! Let's face it... Thanksgiving = +

I'm a puddle... I'm not usually one to watch, or at least focus in on, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (although we do have family attachments: my mom, once a Macy's employee, was in the parade back in the day), especially being a big (fantasy) football guy, but, since the Detroit-Tennessee game was lousy, and I had nothing goin' (on) in it anyway, I watched the parade a little more than usual this year. Well, the last 15 or so minutes,... the Kermit the Frog (of whose songs I am a HUGE fan) song "I Believe", which set the touching mood (as some of you old-timers may recall, Gino and I have a Kermit song on our wedding CD), Andy Williams performing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year", which was a wonderful traditional follow-up and touching as well, and then, of course, Santa's arrival,... I watched (all alone) right in front of the TV with my baby Monica in my arms. Suffice it to say, I was,... in a good way of course,... ... Unbelievable, and I am probably just plugging into what you all have before, but my little daughter, in the first opportunity of her heretofore short little life to do so or not, did NOT disappoint. I'd be lying if I told yous that, when I brought her out into the living room to watch these last 15 minutes of the parade, I didn't have a picture in my mind. Well, she just laid in my arms, intently watching Kermit, Andy and Santa with big grins and arms a flailing and, then, looking back at me and staring into my eyes, smiling, laughing (as newborns do... with their toothless mouths) and cooing away. I'd better stop... I'm getting vaklempt here again... Great stuff...

Don't know if "greater understanding" would be my choice of words (has that unthoughtful haughty, superior ring to it,... but, I digress, that sensibility toward sensitivity is a truly "greater understanding" in my world). That having been said, for sure Baby Monica Marie has provided Gino and me with a special and particular kind of "experience" that adds to the richness of life in a wonderful way that was unimaginable before. For that and that alone, setting aside ALL the other good fortune 2009 has bestowed upon us, most notably SIUC, I am GREATLY thankful. I hope that spirit of thanksgiving finds you all,... and your fantasy teams give you a little something more to be thankful about.

With the girls still away, I'm on my lonesome to start Thanksgiving day here today. It stands as a stark reminder of what I am thankful about (oh, and, using the word "stark" there reminds me of my free-agent pickup for the week in the GBRFL, James Starks, another thing to be thankful about ). I do have plans for dinner later this evening with a few friends, one of them being Dr. James Downhour of the Center for Dewey Studies, where I worked last year for my assistantship, and for whom I'll be serving as the best man at his wedding next summer, something else for which I am very thankful (to have the experience of in this life). Also, probably with it in mind that I am alone this year, I woke up to a very nice Thanksgiving message from my good old friend known here as Chili D., a.k.a. Allen Nelson. And, then, there are also the GBRFLers in general, the generosity of whom keep this site afloat. I am thankful for thoughtful friends... and people in general.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! With our BIG move "back" on the ever-nearing horizon, we are on the road to spend T-day with family and mom this year (prior to the big move) in, of all places, Tennessee (where we have transplant relatives)! Have a great one! Be thankful! Be happy with the small things! If you cannot be happy with a little, you cannot be happy with a lot...

Most of you, back on the mainland, especially on the east coast, have already, probably had your Thanksgiving meals and gatherings. It is still early here. We will be sitting down to our Thanksgiving supper here soon. With that said, I wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving and start to the Christmas season!

Well, this has been a pretty awful year for the country, one that indeed serves to undermine the very meaning trying to be conveyed by Thanksgiving and in so doing take the fun out of the holiday, and for my family it has been a year FULL of challenges over which we have thus far triumphed but only really by toughing it out and not giving up. There were times this year when I have been as down and out as I have ever been (May 10th-11th), but (May 14th came and) we made it, and I am VERY THANKFUL. Happy Thanksgiving to all you all who all these years later still drop by "the Gridiron"!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to anybody who still wanders through the old neighborhood here! I am thankful for those who do! Mind you, I am also thankful to those that inhabited this joint way back when and helped me get FantasyFootballer.com, at least in its initial iteration, off the ground. FYI, there are things brewing in the wings here on "the Gridiron", which very well may start to come to fruition in 2023. But, that is then. This is now... I continue to be very thankful to have such a wonderful, supportive wife and daughter, who too merit my support and understanding. As for these here parts, I am also very thankful for the league that comprises the very basis of this website, the GBRFL, which is now in its 30th (THIRTIETH) YEAR, and its OUTSTANDING group of HIGHLY ACTIVE participants... despite my, at times, love-hate relationship with (each of) them (down through the years)! The GBRFL would not be what it is without them, for sure. It would just be this lone nutbag here winning the league every year over his nine balloons with faces drawn on them in a mental hospital. I am thankful for each and every one of them!
