Title: Happy Easter!
Post by StegRock on Apr 20th, 2003, 6:26am
Happy Easter Sunday morning (early Sunday Morning, [smiley=tired.gif] at least right now), to all us gentile Christian/Catholic fellows!

This is a holiday that I have rarely been "home home" for down through the years.  I have either been out in Colorado or in Korea.  So, my being here in Jersey this Easter is very special for mom!  Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful Easter day with your respective families.  Enjoy the Easter-egg hunts with your children if you have them, children that is [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif] (man, I just love that little guy... makes life worth livin'), and try not to eat all the chocolate from your Easter basket in one sitting! ;)

[smiley=rabbit.gif] HAPPY EASTER! [smiley=rabbit.gif]

[smiley=rabbit.gif] HAPPY EASTER! [smiley=rabbit.gif]

In light of the fact that we as a country are on the brink of some VERY tough, devisive, acrimonious times in '04 with the upcoming election, I hope you all have a particularly great Easter this year filled with togetherness, camaraderie, family and, well, God and Jesus, which makes us humble!

Thought I would just bump this one and make these holiday threads reusable.

I haven't gone in this direction with any posts on this thread (usually try to keep it areligious in this public forum despite the overt and proper religious connection of this and many of the holidays we wish each other a happy one), but Father Bill McGlaughlin, the priest who married Gino (with whom, by the way, fellas, I will finally be together come May 9th, at last able to start our lives together) and me, had a wonderful practical message this morning.  He is known for such "down-to-earth" messages.  He actually came to the Church of the Holy Spirit from a Catholic halfway house of sorts in Trenton, where his "call" was much more hands-on and directly efficacious than liturgical.  He was unhappy about the forced move.  Gino and I were his first wedding at Holy Spirit and I strongly feel that our presence in his life and our particular situation, about which I had discussions with him at length, helped him make the transition (not to mention, I was not keen on the former priest, but took to Father Bill real fast; side note, he too attended Catholic U.).

Anyway, as to the "message" of his homily this morning, it mainly was about Christ's not letting down his disciples and, in accordance, how important it is not to let people down in our lives, not to let your spouse, parents, children, family, friends, community, greater society and the world down.  This really spoke to me as I have found this to be one of the most important maxims to live by.  Step up when you can and then when you give your word, follow through.  I cannot think of any other more practical and important maxim to live by with "respect" to and for friendship, family, community and, for that matter, personal development.

Well, have a happy, blessed and good Easter, my fellow Gridironers!

I hope you are all having a joyous Easter Sunday.  Enjoy this day of the consummation of your belief!

I must admit, though, that around this time and on this day I can't help but get a little lump in my throat thinkin' about my little pals of old... [smiley=rabbit.gif] It was before some of your times, but some of you might remember my tribute to one of them, "My Tribute to Mugs".  Read it again!  Read it for the first time.  It's a read that's good for the soul, in any event:

We may be in the "official" dead of the offseason, but this is the day that Christ has risen.  I hope all of you are having a blessed one with your loved ones.  Happy Easter!!!

On this day of resurrection and ascension, it is worth our reflecting on the ability in each of us to reinvent, redefine and resurrect ourselves and then redeploy and lift up those around us.  Depart from your churches today filled not with the certainty and righteous indignation that places you above others, but with the gratitude, humility, careful consideration and care-filled thoughtfulness that places you, rightfully mind you, alongside and sometimes even at the feet of others.

As the destination of a trajectory set out on a decade ago (as a few of you who may be reading this know) -- indeed, the year this site was born -- is starting to appear on the horizon for the Steggies and the, in the past oft-mentioned, "bigger picture" starts to come into focus, as a very long-term commitment, plan and investment starts to, alas, finally begin to bear a few buds at least and a long period of great ups and great downs, dogged perseverance and sustained sacrifice starts to slowly taper,... life starts smoothing out and we as a family start looking up with the resulting effect, indeed, of things here on "the Gridiron" starting to look back up, too, moreover, with a much wiser and more understanding (in both senses) helmsman with anticipatively improving resources and a continually supportive wife.  Not only has this thread with this post been resurrected, but per the tale above so has a family, and, as pertains to here, with this message I announce the slow, but sure commencement of the resurrection of this site (out of this dead period it has been in for a few years, during which I have done just the bare minimum to keep it afloat).  There is at least one feature I anticipate resurrecting this year...

HAPPY EASTER!!!

(Incidentally, in a lighter-hearted aside, my now three-and-a-half-year-old daughter is running around the house saying, "Trick or treat!"  She just sees the candy.  Except for Christmas, for her it is all Halloween all the time at this stage.  Very cute!  The only distinction she seems to have made is between Christmas and Halloween, that is, again, everything else.  I think the distinction really is between toys and candy, but I digress...) ;D

Time to take pause...

...

As for the rest, amidst "everything" going on, the Easter [smiley=rabbit.gif] Bunny did make it to the Stegeman residence early, early this morning.  Monica was put down this year for the "egg hunt/basket of candy" hybrid program.  That is to say, she woke up and next to her bed with a note inside from the Easter Bunny was a basket for her to collect the various candies that were hidden around the house... Easter's falling later in the spring this year in late April makes it feel more traditional somehow.  The flowers back on the mainland must be in full bloom.  I hope you are all enjoying this blessed, springtime Easter Sunday! [smiley=angel.gif]
