Title: Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Post by StegRock on Mar 17th, 2004, 1:24pm
Regardless of its being the deadest of the dead of the NFL offseason, with our site's here being so very Kelly GREEN, and considering the presence of our esteemed member Mr. O'Dell, it just wouldn't be right to not acknowledge and celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

While glancing over at the big St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York on the tube, I heard a great saying worth sharing with you all:  "Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but instead by the number of times life takes your breath away."  VERY good one!

Well, guys, Happy St. Patrick's day! [smiley=shamrock.gif] We're all a little Irish Catholic today! [smiley=ragin.gif] ... [smiley=priest.gif]

It's only dead in Denver where the Broncos have signed the likes of Marco "Old Man" Coleman and Mike Quinn.  Philadelphia is in a partying mood today with the signing of Terrell O'Wens yesterday.  It's a great day to be GREEN!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!  Slante'!

Funny...  The colors "LimeGreen", what I used (which is one of the default choices on the drop-down menu), and "Lime", what Jeff used, are a little different.

What does this mean, by the way?  Pardon my ignorance.  I'm not Irish. [smiley=dejected.gif]

I believe it means to your health, unless I am mistaken.

I've found that I can use many other colors than the ones on the drop-down menu.  "Lime" is brighter than "LimeGreen" for some reason.  I tried "KellyGreen and Kelly", but they were a bit too blue.  I do like the "LightBlue" that BW and I have been using on the Draft threads.  I discovered you could use other colors when I started using "Silver" for my weekly Eagles analyses.

I'm not Irish either, but I always understood it to be the equivalent of the English "Cheers!"  Of course it could mean "Screw You" or something and I'd never know until I said it to an inebriated Irishman (sorry for the redundancy there... I guess I could have just used "Irishman" and achieved the same understanding).

Blue is a typical default color, so is black, i.e. if it doesn't "understand" what color you're indicating, it will display it as blue or black.

You actually have a greater array of colors at your disposal if you know the HTML color "codes", e.g., black = "000000" and white = "FFFFFF".  You can use them with the UBB code here, i.e., instead of using "color=black", you could use "color=000000".  By using the code, you can pretty much make whatever color you'd like. :) For the sake of efficiency, you'd probably want to be consulting a web-page editing program like FrontPage.

Anyway,...

Thanks for the tip.  I can get those codes from Paint Shop Pro.  I never even thought of that.

Ladies and Gents, I hope you all are adorning just a little green today out of respect for our [smiley=stpat.gif] Irish-Catholic [smiley=priest.gif] brethren here on "the Gridiron" (which does so every day of the year). ;) Anyway, the best of Irish-Catholic luck [smiley=shamrock.gif] to you all today straight from The Catholic University of America.  On St. Patty's Day we are all Irish and a little bit Catholic.

Some NFL-related Irish news especially for St. Patty's Day... from "The REAL Feed":

Obama picks Steelers owner Rooney to be U.S. ambassador to Ireland (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80f4d748&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true)
NFL.com (17.03.2009 12:28)
President Barack Obama on Tuesday selected Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney to be U.S. ambassador to Ireland, turning to a lifelong Republican who provided the Democrat critical campaign support.

Quid pro quo though it may be, Rooney's a good guy and a great choice for such a post.  (It could be said to be the first good appointment by Obama.)

Oh, and, [smiley=shamrock.gif] Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! [smiley=stpat.gif]

Backatchyou, Steve!

Seasons so deep in the offseason have been hard to keep track of here on "the Gridiron", especially during these, what I will call, "in between" years...  This is a particular bummer here given that we have such a St. Patrick's Day ambience on "the Gridiron" with all the green.  Anyway, thanks for hanging in there, though, bra'! [smiley=cheers.gif] Insert an :Ihavegottogetahangloosehawaiianshakasmiley-smiley: here. [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif]

Belated though it may be for you all back east and late for everybody, I have to wish everybody a Happy St. Patrick's Day 2016 with my Monica a first grader at St. Patrick [smiley=stpat.gif] School here in Honolulu.

Have not posted to this one in a few years now, over a half decade indeed.  Heck, I was not even Dr. Steg [smiley=graduate.gif] yet in March of 2016.  In any event, with all that is going on, it seems apropos to wish everybody, Irish or not, who drops on by this old hood, the best of luck here in 2022 on this St. Patrick's [smiley=priest.gif] Day!
