Well, since it's a done deal, let's re-title and go and open this sucker back up...

Jacksonville is really doing some overhaul on defense.  This is a good addition for a team struggling to field a competitive team this year.  They just might pull it off.  Here is all the latest out of "the Gridiron Newsstand" and a couple of the "big boys":

http://www.jaguars.com/Story/2775.asp;

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/news/2003/03/15/jaguars_dougla s_ap/;

http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1523953.html.

Any thoughts on whether or not the Jags will actually put something worth following on the field this year?

This is a team that many people are passing up on for all the wrong reasons.

Fred Taylor had his first ever 16 game season of his career! He will come into this year fresh and ready to go, unlike last.

Jimmy Smith will still be a monster with recieving stats.

Mark Brunell will continue to be an underrated QB producing quality numbers.

The addition of Hugh only strengthens the Jax defense, which wasn't all that great last season, but it wasn't terrible.

Prediction: Jax goes 9-7 and makes the Wildcard.

Jesus!  I just realized that this got all clusterfucked! There was already a "Jaguars Offseason Report" thread and a substantial "Hugh Douglas" discussion going on on the "Eagles Offseason Report" thread.  Fuck!  What I am going to do is lock the original "Jaguars..." thread and link it to this one.  BUT, the bottom line is that I would really like everybody to pay a little better attention to things here.  I refuse to let this place turn into "big-ego, new-thread madness" (not that that is what it has turned into yet).  I would just like our posters to post with an eye toward organization and consideration.  Thank you for your anticipated cooperation!
(Listen, I got my boy Eminem blaring as I'm workin' right now... "Lose Yourself" is just too hype... so I'm feelin' pretty cocky... remember this place ain't about numbers... I ain't got the chains of draggin' me down... let's just all be a little more mindful!)

Here is link to the other, now redundant, soon-to-be-locked thread:

Along with the signing of Douglas Jax signed FB Marc Edwards, not like anyone cares but, hey, that's not my problem, now is it?

Get a load of that report currently topping "The REAL Feed"!?  Well, here is the summary quote from the feed:

"(TE) Johnny Mitchell, who hasn't played in an NFL game since 1996, worked out with Jacksonville in another try at making a comeback."

Couldn't have anything to do with TE Kyle Brady's not showing up for their recent minicamp as per "the Gridiron Newsstand":

Oh my, you see that article topping "The REAL Feed" right now?  Here is the corroboration from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/041403/jag_12274907.shtml.

Talk about a "blast from the past" or, should I say, a "bast from the past"! They are really dippin' and trippin' takin' a shot on Johnny Mitchell!

Some good clips from "The REAL Feed" worth posting on these days:

"Jaguars' Leftwich starts to emerge
NFL.com (09.06.2003 21:38)
First-round draft pick Byron Leftwich is beginning to show why many of the experts believed he could be the best quarterback to come out this year's crop."

I have heard that he might just win the job.  What do you all think?  I think if he gets the chance they might not get him off the field!

I think it would be a slap in the face to Brunell if they give the job to Leftwich. The NFL is hard enough to adjust to out of college, and quarterback is the toughest position to come in and play. Brunell has served the Jags well. He should be treated with a little respect...

I agree, BW!  But, don't ya' think that if Brunell goes down and Leftwich comes in and tears it up, they stay with the kid?  I am not saying they should or should not, but will they?

If Brunell goes down, then obviously the door has opened for Leftwich, but that door isn't open yet.  Brunell will be the QB for this season and Leftwich will be the man next year.  Leftwich may get some clean-up duty in a few games this year, but unless Brunell gets hurt, don't count on much from Leftwich no matter how good he looks in camp/pre-season.

It's currently atop "The REAL Feed"...  Jaguars sign J.J. Stokes.  Here is the local lowdown from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/061603/jag_stokes.shtml.

Word is he comes in as their #2, de facto. Any thoughts?  Mine simply are that if he couldn't shine in San Fran's offense, he certainly isn't going to in Jacksonville. He's just another piece of junk they are throwing across from Smith like they did last year, PRAYING he'll pan out.  He won't!

Well, JAX is switching to a west coast offense I believe under Del Rio. So he knows it...so maybe he will be a mentor of sorts for the younger guys. PLus it gives them another year to find a guy they want. Jax Really needs someone since McCardell left least year. I don't think he is worth a fantasy roster spot, but would be an improvemnet for them at that position and better depth than what they have now.
I do feel he is an upgrade to Lockett and Shaw.

Is it just me, or is Jimmy Smith being ranked way too low?  Most rankings have him 16 to 20.  Is he done or does he still have it?

I think he will come back and be a top 12 WR this year.  He seems like a guy who really has pride and works hard all the time.  He reminds me of Rice and Brown.

Is he ranked so low because people think Leftwich will be the starter?  Brunell is still a decent QB. So why such a low ranking?

Any thoughts?

It is interesting you make that partular analogy.  Rice continues to be the man; Brown, on the other hand, declines.  I love Jimmy! Don't get me wrong!  He was the inspiration for my piece "With Whom I'd Go To War" (available via our "Fantasy Articles" section).  But, he is going to go more the way of Brown than Rice, I think.  At this point, he is no spring , really has nobody opposite him to occupy coverage, is not working with the best QB situation, and is going to be dealing with some philosophical changes regarding their offensive scheme, and while I hope for the best for Jimmy, I think 15 to 20, or maybe even 25, is the best he will finish from here on out.

Anyone have the skinny on the Jags?  I've seen plenty of coverage on the two players who went down in the heat, but that's about it.  Makes me wonder if Jacksonville even deserves a team based on their local media coverage...

Anyway, I was wondering how the RBs were looking.  I understand that Taylor is battling a bone bruise (despite saying he wants to be known as the most dangerous RB in history) and Elvis Joseph is spending most of camp on a stationary bike.  I heard Toefield looked good, but it was second-hand and there were no details.

I haven't heard a ton.  Other than things you mentioned, one thing was a snippet about the HC Del Rio not being happy with Brunelle's practice(s).  Just a bunch of fluff.

As anyone heard anything more OFFICIAL about Freddy's injury?  Lots of rumors that is injury is more serious than originally believed.  Bone bruise....but I have read he may not play the whole preseason.  But, if it was Sept 7th he would play.

In addition, Toefield vs Joseph seems to be getting more attention than it deserves. Does this mean anything?????

Why is Taylor doing nothing?  Apparently he isn't even jogging.....  fantasy owners demand the truth!!

Leftwich finally signs. He signed a 5 yr deal with an $11M signing bonus.
He is the last 1st rounder to sign.
Now lets get on with the season!!!
