If we're talking about which RB we think we'll do best THIS UPCOMING SEASON, then you're going to laugh your ass off at my list. I always like to go out on a limb with it; it makes it more fun.

1) McAllister
2) LT2
3) James
4) Henry
5) Lewis
6) Williams
7) Faulk
8) Davis
9) Portis (yeah this far)
10) Alexander

Don't laugh TOO hard... wait 'til the season ends and THEN laugh your asses off.

You're not high on Lewis, you're just high.  Just kiddin, I took a lot of ribbin last year for having Williams high and it turned out right.  Kordell on the other hand I wasn't so right on ::wince::

I think the only guy on there I laugh at is Davis.  Come on, he always misses time and is with a team with a terrible offensive line.  IMO, Carolina is no where near contending and no where near rebuilding, they're worse off than the Bungles.

What's your reasoning for having him that high?

--Also, I see everyone's got James creeping into their top 10's.  I guess, like me, you guys think he's got too much potential/reputation to let slip any farther.

Well, the Panthers did pick up Jordan Gross and another OL early in the draft (name slips me, too lazy to go check) and they really like to play ball-control offense, which means 25-30 carries for Davis if he can handle it, I think. The only reason he did so bad last year was because Spurrier throws the ball like 99.9% of the time. Haha, maybe I did exaggerate a bit... but maybe not. I think he'll bounce back nicely.

Oh, and as for them being worse off than the Bengals... HOW?

The Panthers have one of the best defenses in the league!!

Throw in a solid RB in Davis, some WR in Dyson and Proehl to already decent S.Smith and Muhammed, 2 good OL in the draft. DELHOMME IS THE KEY!

If this guy can surprise and perform well, I think the Panthers surprise and make the playoffs...

Ha! No ducking needed my friend!

I don't think th Panthers are worse than the Bengals ( at least not this coming season) but as far as them making the playoffs, who are they better than in this already strong NFC playoff caliber group:

Tampa Bay
Philadelphia
New York
San Francisco
Green Bay
Atlanta
Washington

I'd even put St. Louis, Seattle and Minnesota ahead of Carolina right now, but I guess anything can happen...

I agree Seattle and Minnesota make the playoffs this year both with above .500 records. St. Louis I'm not sure about. It could go either way, all depending on Mr. Warner.

BUT, of the list you gave...

Washington has no chance of being very high. Ramsey needs at LEAST another year.

And Green Bay, sorry guys. Green Bay is having a huge down year this year, I think. Favre will just crumble and they have no legitimate backup. Green will perform okay, but that's only because they need him to. And their D won't be enough to keep them anywhere near the playoffs. They had a pretty weak D against the run last year. Not sure if it's enough to catapault the Panthers near the playoffs, but we'll see...

Excellent, substantive post, Razz! Great read, rambling aside! Of course, that is coming from a real aficionado of rambling!

Well, I am just going to give a quick preliminary Top 10:

1.  LaDainian Tomlinson
2.  Ricky Williams
3.  Clinton Portis
4.  Priest Holmes
5.  Jamal Lewis
6.  Travis Henry
7.  Shawn Alexander
8.  Edgerrin James
9.  Deuce McAllister
10. Curtis Martin

No, Marshall Faulk is not on the list!  It's over...  Deal with it! Although, he probably would be #11 on my list!

Anyway, if someone wants to do an average of all the rankings on this when this thread finally dies down, make note of it and please go for it!

And, by the way, more yummy information and discussion on RB's for '03 can be found on the following thread:

Here's my top ten RB's (better late than never):

1.  LaDanian Tomlinson
2.  Marshall Faulk
3.  Shaun Alexander
4.  Ricky Williams
5.  Priest Holmes
6.  Travis Henry
7.  Deuce McAllister
8.  Clinton Portis
9.  Jamal Lewis
10.Stephen Davis

I expect Faulk to have a major rebound season in 2003, but Tomlinson's sheer number of carries will outproduce him.  Alexander is also poised to have a monster year after his first two successful seasons, especially if the Seattle passing attack starts to click.

I expect that Ricky Williams will wear down due to the number of carries he receives, and may actually miss a game or two.  Ricky has an injury history that I would be wary of, especially with the amount of work that he saw last year.  Priest is the same concern, but I DO expect him to start the season without a problem.  Both Longhorns take a slight step down this year, IMO.

What's not to love about Henry.  Had a great year last year, the passing attack should still be potent, and now he's basically in a contract year with MacGahee waiting in the wings.  I almost placed him ahead of the Longhorn backs, but was a little uncomfortable in doing so, so he stays at #6.

Deuce and Clinton I expect to go through some growing pains in their true second year as starting RB's.  Although they'll be productive, I expect a slight tail off in their numbers.

Lewis and Davis are workhorse backs.  I LOVE workhorse backs.  Each will see an average of 30 carries per game this year, and will probably see all of the goalline opportunities as well.  And they are both on teams that are focusing on ball control offense (because their passing games suck).  That means a top ten finish for both of these carry monsters in 2003.
