| Callie, you were doing the RIGHT thing... I had to make a judgment call on this a couple weeks ago and I came to the determination outlined on the following thread page: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;a ction=display;num=1109964598;start=75. In accordance with that determination, this thread will be temporarily locked until "OUR" "in-"season, i.e. the post-season, has COMPLETELY and indubitably ended and "OUR" offseason CLEARLY begun. So, continue to post on the in-season threads until the Pro Bowl has been played. Thank you! P.S. (By the way, I prefer the (mis)spelling of "offseason" without the hyphen and will edit any threads that are a part of our "official 'Offseason Reports'" titled otherwise. I have my philosophical reasons... Again, thank you for you anticipated cooperation.) |

"That extension bought time for the salary-cap strapped Raiders. Contrary to published reports, the team did not waive quarterback Kerry Collins, or any other players, on Sunday, senior assistant Michael Lombardi confirmed." and "For now, he remains on the Raiders' roster, and Collins' agent, David Dunn, is expected to continue working on a deal that would reduce the quarterback's contract." http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2006/03/06 /SPGB1HJ7DI1.DTL Ahhh, more Al Davis smoke and mirrors? Collins more willing to restructure, hang on to him as a safety net while the Raiders shop for a FA vet (like Brees?), keep the other teams guessing. Looks like the Raiders can have their cake and eat it too for the time being. If they can't get a FA QB they want, they can keep Collins - and with a restructured contract.

| All true, along with the possibility of drafting Vince Young and throwing him into the fire early. They say they really like him, but it could also be more smoke to hide their true intentions. Kitna's name has also been bandied about. With the Raiders, we always have to wait and see.

The situation in New Orleans last year was terrible. Getting a chance to start over may be just what Brooks needs. While Brooks is clearly not one of the top overall QB's, he is only 30, has a strong arm, and he is mobile. It is well known that the Raiders like to throw deep which is Brooks strength. The coaches and fans of New Orleans questioned his decision making last year. With Moss and Porter it should be very easy on him. Throw deep to Moss or deep to Porter. In any event, he can't be worse than Collins. |
| NO WAY!!! This guy's a loser... It may be a good pick-up for fantasy owners with Brooks on their teams or who get Brooks as he may put up some decent stats. BUT, he is NOT a winning NFL quarterback, which means that he won't be a viable fantasy option for long either, and, mind you, in the interim he'll continue to be up-and-down, a fantasy frustration, like he's always been. Stay away!

In case you missed it, something to tuck into your predictions for LaMont Jordan in 2006: Jackie Slater Pro Football Hall of Fame (1976-1995 Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams) A powerful drive blocker, Slater blocked for seven different 1,000-yard rushers, including Lawrence McCutcheon, Wendell Tyler, Eric Dickerson, Charles White, Greg Bell, Cleveland Gary, and Jerome Bettis. He also blocked in 107 games in which a runner gained 100 yards or more. Former Raider OT/current Raider HC Art Shell brought Slater in as the Raider O-Line coach, and Jordan will benefit from both of them.
